Answers:
1). c) 2). c) 3). a) 4). d) 5). b) 6). c) 7). a) 8). c) 9). e) 10). e)

Solution:

1). A : B = (1 / 2) : (3 / 8)
= (1 / 2) / (3 / 8) = 8 / 6 = 4 / 3 = 4 : 3
B : C = (1 / 3) : (5 / 9) = (1 / 3) / (5 / 9) = 9 / (3 × 5) = 3 / 5 = 3 : 5
A : B : C = 4 : 3 : 5 = 8 : 6 : 10
C : D = (5 / 6) : (3 / 4) = (5 / 6) / (3 / 4) = (5 / 6) × (4 / 3) = 10 / 9 = 10 : 9
A : B : C : D = 8 : 6 : 10 : 9
Answer:  c)

2). 7 / 15 = 0.47;
15 / 23 = 0.65
17 / 25 = 0.68
21 / 29 = 0.72
∴ 7 / 15 is the smallest ratio
Answer: c)

3). Let the number to be added to each term be x
(7 + x) / (13 + x) = 2 / 3
3(7 + x) = 2(13 + x)
21 + 3x = 26 + 2x
3x – 2x = 26 – 21
x = 5
Answer: a)

4). Ratio of the number of coins of 1 rupee : 50 paise : 10 paise = 3 : 4 : 10
Ratio of total values of coins of 1 rupee : 50 paise : 10 paise = (100 × 3) : (50 × 4) : (10 × 10)
= 300 : 200 : 100 = 3 : 2 : 1
Total value of 10 paise coins is Rs. 102
= [1 / (3 + 2 + 1)] × Rs. 102 = Rs. 102 / 6
= Rs. 17 = 1700 paise
No. of 10 paise coins = 1700 / 10 = 170
Answer: d)

5). Let no. of males and females be 7x and 8x.
Percentage of children among females = 20%
So, 80% of females are adults,
(80 / 100)(8x) = 156800
x = 156800 × (100 / (80 × 8)) = 24500
Total population = 7x + 8x = 15x = 15(24500) = 367500
Answer: b)

6). According to the question,
Let each nephew receives Rs. x
Son : Daughter : Nephew = 5x : 4x : x
5 sons : 4 daughters : 2 Nephews = 25x : 16x : 2x
And 25x + 16x + 2x = Rs. 8600
43x = Rs. 8600
x = Rs. 200
required answer = 4 × 200 = RS. 800
Answer: c)

7). Required ratio = 21.5 : 20.5 = 21.5 / 20.5 = 21.5-0.5 = 2 : 1
Answer: a)

8). Let the smallest integer be x.
Then, [(6 – x) / (7 – x)] < (16 / 21)
(126 – 21x) < (112 – 16x)
5x > 14
x> 14 / 5
The smallest integer which would satisfy the given condition is 3 ( = 15 / 5)
Check : (6 – 3) / (7 – 3) = (3 / 4) < (16 / 21)
Answer: c)

9). Let the first and second number be x and y respectively
According to the question,
(40% of x) + y = 125% of x
85% of x = y
85x = 100y
x / y = 100 / 85 = 20 / 17
x : y = 20 : 17
Answer: e)

10). Let the sale price be 7x and the cost price 5x
Then, Profit = 7x – 5x = 2x
Profit : Cost price = 2x : 5x = 2 : 5
Answer: e)
