Solution:

1). Rice : Wheat = 4 × 5 : 3 × 6
= 20 : 18 = 10 : 9
Total cost of rice = (10 / 19) × 380 = Rs. 200
Answer: c)

2). A : B : C = 1/3 : 1/4 : 1/5 : 1/6
= 1/3 × 60 : 1/4 × 60 : 1/5 × 60 : 1/6 × 60 (LCM of 3, 4, 5 & 6 = 60)
= 20 : 15 : 12 : 10
Minimum number of pens = 20 + 15 + 12 + 10 = 57
Answer: a)

3). Third proportional of 12 and 18 = x
12 : 18 = 18 : x
x = (18 × 18) / 12 = 27
Answer: c)

4). x : y = 3 : 2 = 9 : 6
y : z = 3 : 2 = 6 : 4
:. x : y : z = 9 : 6 : 4
9a + 6a + 4a = 342 à 19a = 342 à a = 342 / 19 = 18
A = 18 × 9 = 162
B = 18 × 6 = 108
C = 18 × 4 = 72
Answer: b)

5). A / B = 3 / 4, B / C = 6 / 5
(A / B) × (B / C) = (3 /4) × (6 / 5) = 9 / 10
A / C = 9 / 10 à C / A = 10 / 9
Answer: a)

6). (a + b) / 6 = (b + c) / 7 = (c + a) / 8 = k
a + b = 6k;  b + c = 7k;  c + a = 8k
a + b + b + c + c + a = 6k + 7k + 8k à 2 (a + b + c) = 21k
2 × 14 = 21k à k = (4/3)
c = (a + b + c) – (a + b) = 14 – 6 × (4/3) = 14 – 8 = 6
Answer: a)

7). x : y = 3 : 4 = 9 : 12
y : z = 3 : 4 = 12 : 16
x : y : z = 9 : 12 : 16
(x + y + z) / 3z = (9k + 12k + 16k) / (3 × 16k) = 37 / 48
Answer: d)

8). Number of brown socks = x
Price of brown socks = Rs. y per pair
Price of black socks = Rs. 2y per pair
4y + x × 2y
= (150 / 100) (4 × 2y + xy) = 4 + 2x = 3/2 (8 + x)
= 8 + 4x = 24 + 3x à x = 24 – 8 = 16
Required ratio = 4 : 16 = 1 : 4.
Answer: b)

9). Of the given alternatives,
Number = 36 , 3 + 6 = 9 ; 6 – 3 = 3 and 36 : 9 = 4 : 1
Otherwise 10x + y : x + y = 4 : 1
10x + (x + 3) : x + (x + 3) = 4 : 1
 (11x + 3) / (2x + 3) = 4 / 1 à 11x + 3 = 8x + 12
3x = 9 à x = 3 and y = 6
Answer: c)

10). Numbers = 2x, 3x and 4x
(2x)2 + (3x)2 + (4x)2 = 1856
4x2 + 9x2 + 16x2 = 1856
29 x2 = 1856
x2 = 1856 / 29 = 64
x = √64 = 8
Numbers = 16, 24 and 32
Answer: b)
