Solutions:
1). a) A’s 1 day work = 1/15
B’s 1 day work = 1/20
C’s 1 day work = 1/25
A, B and C worked together.
Therefore, A, B and C one day work = 1/15 + 1/20 + 1/25 = 47/300
Days taken to complete the work together = 300/47
Therefore C’s share = 300/47 x 1/25 x 4700 = 1200

2). c) Let Upstream speed as u, => u = 15kmph
Distance = Speed x time = 15 x 20/60 = 5kmph

3). d) CP of 1kg Apple = 21/3 = Rs.7
SP of 1kg Apple = 50/5 = Rs.10
Profit in 1kg of Apple = rs.3
To earn Rs. 102 as profit he must sell 102/3 = 34kg

4). b) Work done by the inlet in 1 hour = 1/8 – 1/12 = 1/24
Work done by the inlet in 1 minute = 1/24 x 1/60 = 1/1440
Volume of 1/1440 part = 6 litres
Therefore, volume of the whole = 1440 x 6 = 8640liters

5). a) Let the ages of father and son be x and (45 – x)
Then (x – 5) x (45 – x – 5) = 34 => x2 – 45x + 234 = 0 => (x – 39)(x – 6) = 0
Therefore x = 39 or x = 6.
Fathers age = 39 and son’s age = 6
