·        World Naked Bike Day
International Albinism Awareness Day observed worldwide on June 13:

·        13 June: International Albinism Awareness Day
·        Second International Albinism Awareness Day was observed on 13 June 2016.
·        The day is observed to recognize the importance of increasing awareness and understanding of albinism in order to fight against global discrimination and stigma against persons with albinism.
NATIONAL:
President Mukherjee to hold bilateral talks with Ghanaian counterpart; Both sides likely to ink pacts including visa waiver:

·        President Pranab Mukherjee will hold talks with his Ghanaian counterpart John Mahama on issues relating to bilateral, regional and multilateral concerns.
·        On the second day of his visit to Ghana, which is the first ever visit by an Indian President, both the countries are likely to sign several agreements including on visa waiver and line of credit.
Kishore Tiwari-headed Task Force on Farmers submitted its report to Maharashtra Government:
·        Maharashtra Government appointed taskforce named as Vasantrao Naik Shetkari Swavalamban Mission (VNSSM), headed by agriculture expert Kishore Tiwari, submitted its report to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
·        The taskforce appointed to address agrarian issues has suggested a five-point agenda to bring at least 80 percent of farmers into the institutional credit net.
Bihar education dept launches Operation Clean Up

·        In the light of the recent class XII Bihar board results scandal, the state Education Department has launched ‘Operation Clean Up’, under which all the 228 B.Ed colleges of the state will be probed.
·        State Education Minister Ashok Choudhary said that the department will also inspect “10+2, degree colleges and even coaching institutes” to ensure the quality of education.
Vaishno Devi shrine sets new record, over 51,000 pilgrims visit in single day:
·        In Jammu and Kashmir, Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage set a new record when the number of pilgrims performing darshans of the holy cave crossed 51 thousand.
·        The highest figure of pilgrims on a single day.
PM Modi to inaugurate the two day Annual Conference of Tax:
·        Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the two day Annual Conference of Senior Tax Administrators of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) & Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) on 16th June in the national capital.
·        The Annual Conference has been given the brand name ‘Rajaswa-Gyansangam’– Annual Conference of Tax Administrators.
INTERNATIONAL:
IEP released the 2016 Global Peace Index, India ranks 141:

·        Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) released the 2016 Global Peace Index (GPI). It is 10th edition of GPI that measured peace, its causes and its economic value during 2015 for 163 countries.
·        India ranked 141 among the 163 countries with 2.566 GPI score.
·         It showed an improvement in peace building as it held 143th rank in 2014 and 2015. 
Norway becomes first country to prohibit deforestation:
·        Norway became the first country to prohibit deforestation.
·        Norwegian Parliament had pledged to make government’s public procurement policy deforestation-free. The step was taken after a committee of MPs recommended imposing regulations to ensure the state did not contribute to deforestation of the rainforest.
·        Norway had pledged to do that at the U.N. Climate Summit in 2014, alongside Germany and the United Kingdom.
China launches 23rd BeiDou Navigation Satellite:

·        China launched its 23rd satellite it the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS).
·        The satellite launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province will support China’s global navigation and positioning network.
·        The satellite was taken into orbit by a Long March-3C carrier rocket. It was the 229th launch of the Long March carrier rocket.
·        The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System is being developed as an alternative to US GPS.
China's crude oil output drops by most in 15 yrs:

·        China's crude oil production in May fell by 7.3% year-on-year, its biggest drop since February 2001, according to data from the country's National Bureau of Statistics.
·        This comes after the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) failed to reach an agreement on oil production cap. \
·        China's production drop is an indicator that global oil markets are rebalancing, analysts said.
India, EFTA agree to address issues to resume FTA talks:
·        India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) agreed to resolve the outstanding issues for resumption of long-stalled negotiations for a proposed free trade agreement.
·        A meeting between the chief negotiators of India and EFTA was held in New Delhi to take stock of the ongoing negotiations for Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement.
·        The four EFTA members are Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein.
·        The trade pact talks had started in 2008 and so far, 13 rounds of negotiations have been held at the level of chief negotiators
APPOINTMENTS:
Azad appointed general secretary in-charge of UP:

·        Congress veterans Ghulam Nabi Azad and Kamal Nath were appointed general secretaries in-charge of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, a move seen as precursor to a major organisational shake-up in the party ahead of the assembly polls in the two states next year.
BANKING :
FPI limit in YES Bank hiked to 74%:

·        The Reserve Bank of India has notified the increase in the limits of foreign portfolio investors in YES Bank from 60% to 74% under the portfolio investment scheme.
·        The increase follows the approval granted by the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) / Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB on May 25 besides deregulation of FDI policy allowing fungibility across FDI / FPI limits.
AWARDS AND HONORS:
Priyanka Chopra nominated for Choice TV Breakout Star in 2016 Teen Choice Awards:

·        India's bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra was nominated for 2016 Teen Choice Awards. She got her final nomination in the category of Choice TV Breakout Star.
·        She was nominated for her role as FBI trainee Alex Parrish in American TV series, Quantico.
·        Earlier, she also won the Favourite Actress title in a New TV series award at the People’s Choice Awards for her debut role on an American TV show.
Government proposes yoga medals for paramilitary force:
·        The Home Ministry has proposed instituting ‘yoga medals’ for central paramilitary troops for displaying exceptional skills in the discipline.
·        Further, the Ministry plans to re-employ retiring personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces as Master Yoga Trainers to create a constant resource pool of teachers.
·        Around 30,000 personnel will take part in the International Yoga Day on June 21.
BUSINESS AND ECONOMY:
Bain chief Bechek highest-rated CEO: Glassdoor

·        Bob Bechek, Chief Executive of consulting firm Bain & Company, emerged as the highest-rated CEO in a survey conducted by jobs portal Glassdoor.
·        He is followed by Ultimate Software head Scott Scherr (2nd), Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg (4th), Google's Sundar Pichai (7th) and Apple's Tim Cook (8th). The survey was based on employees' feedback on the portal.
Tata Power acquires Welspun’s renewable energy assets:
·        Tata Power Company has announced that Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a fully owned subsidiary of Tata Power, has acquired 1,140 MW solar and wind power assets of Welspun Energy Pvt Ltd.
·        Notably, India has a target of installing 60 GW of wind and 100 GW of solar power capacity by 2022.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:
World's smallest violin made with Google sensors:

·        Researchers have created the world's smallest working violin by incorporating Google's Project Soli, a tiny radar-based chip that detects mid-air finger movements with a Wekinator device.
·        When users rub their thumb and forefinger over the device, the chip converts the movements into a sound similar to a violin. To recreate the violin sound, the device was taught different finger movements.
US successfully launches world's largest rocket:
·        United Launch Alliance's 'Delta IV Heavy', the world's largest rocket, was successfully launched on Saturday carrying a classified payload for the US intelligence agency National Reconnaissance Office.
·        The launch's​ live feed was cut after six minutes to maintain the payload's secrecy. The mission, NROL-37, was the ninth to be launched atop a Delta IV Heavy since its debut in 2004.
Daimler to unveil long-distance electric car:

·        German automaker Daimler will unveil the prototype of its long-distance electric car at the Paris Motor Show in October this year.
·        The prototype will be an electric-powered Mercedes car which can travel up to 500 kilometres in a single charge.
·        Daimler will also launch its fourth-generation electric Smart car at the end of 2016 in both two and four-seater variants
SPORTS:
Hamilton dedicates Canadian GP win to Boxer Muhammad Ali:

·        Defending Formula one champion Lewis Hamilton dedicated his win at the Canadian Grand Prix to late boxer Muhammad Ali.
·        Hamilton is now nine points behind championship leader and Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, who finished fifth.
OBITUARY:
Noted Playwright and Actor Achyut Lahkar passes away:

·        Noted playwright and actor Achyut Lahkar, doyen of Assam’s mobile theatre movement, passed away following a protracted illness. He was 85.
·        Lahkar was the pioneering dramatist, veteran actor director and producer who staged numerous memorable plays in mobile theatre.
Veteran journalist Inder Malhotra passes away:
·        Veteran journalist Inder Malhotra passed away following a long illness. He was 86.
·        Malhotra was the resident editor of The Times of India and The Statesman.
·        He authored several books, including a biography of Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Gordie Howe, legendary ice hockey player dies:

·        The legendary Canadian ice hockey player Gordie Howe was died after a lengthy illness. He was 88.
·        He was nicknamed as Mr. Hockey and is considered to be one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time.
