1). 20% profit = 98000
Total profit for at the end of the year = (98000 × 100)/20 = 490000
5 × 12 : 6 × 12 : 6 × 6 × x (R joined after six months)
5 : 6 : 3x
14x = 490000
x = 490000/14 à x = 35000
R’s investment = 35000 × 3 = 105000
2). Total no.of ways of drawing 3 marbles = 12C3 = (12 × 11 × 10) / (1 × 2 × 3) = 220
Total number of ways of drawing marbles, which are of same colour = 5C× 4C3 × 3C3 = 10 + 4 + 1 = 15
Probability of same colour = (15 / 220) = (3/44)
Probability of not same colour = 1 – (3/44) =  41/44
3). Relative speed = 120 + 80 = 200 kmph = 200 × (5 / 18) m/sec
T = Distance / Speed = [(270 + x) × 9] / 500
(9 × 500) / 9 = 270+x  (:.t=9 sec)
x = 500 – 270 = 230m
4). Let the numerator and denominator be x and y respectively. Then (x+2) / (y+3) = 7/9
9(x+2) = 7(y+3) à 9x + 18 = 7y + 21 à 9x – 7y = 3  ….(i)
(x - 1) / (y - 1) = 4/5 à 5(x - 1) = 4(y - 1) à 5x – 4y = 1  ….(ii)
Solving (i) and (ii), we get x = 5, y = 6
Required fraction = 5/6

6). Let the sum invested by Srinivasan be Rs. x, from the equation,
(22/100) × x = 1650

7). Let the speed of the car starting from point A to B and B to A be x km/hr and y km/hr respectively.
From the questions,
x+y = 120   …(i) and x-y = 20   …(ii)
solving equations (i) and (ii) we get x = 70 km/hr
