Directions (Q. 6-10): The bar-graphs shows the export and import of a company in five years.
Trade value = E + I
Trade surplus = E – I
Trade deficit = I – E

a)   20
b)   40
c)   60
d)   10
e)   25

1)c   2)d   3)b   4)d   5)d   6)c   7)d   8)a   9)e   10)b

Solution:
1). Total number of volcanic eruptions in the year 2012 = 20 + 60 + 20 + 60 + 60 + 120 = 340
Total number of volcanic eruptions in the year 2014 = 100 + 120 + 120 + 20 + 40 + 60 = 460
Required ratio = 340: 460 = 17: 23

2). Total number of volcanic eruptions in Japan during the given four years = 60 + 100 + 120 + 140 = 420
Total number of volcanoes in Japan = 1000 × 34 / 100 = 340
Required% = 420 × 100 / 340 = 123.52%.

3). Difference between the number of volcanoes in India and the number of volcanoes in Malaysia
1000 × 20 / 100 = 200     -      1000 × 10 / 100 = 200 – 100 = 100
Difference between the number of volcanoe eruptions in Japan and Norway
140+120+100+60     -      120+80+60+40 = 420 – 300 = 120
Required Ratio = 100 : 120 à 5 : 6.

4). Total number of volcanic eruptions in China = 40 + 60 + 80 + 120 = 300
Total number of volcanic eruptions in USA = 20 + 60 + 80 + 100 = 260
Required % = 300 × 100 / 260 = 115.38%
Therefore the volcanic eruptions in China are 115.38% of the total number of volcanic eruptions in the USA.

5). Total number of volcanic eruptions in Malaysia = 140 + 120 + 40 + 20 = 320
Total number of volcanoes in USA= 1000 × 18 / 100 = 180
Required % = [(320 – 180)/180] × 100 = 77.78%

6). Trade value in 2009 = 120 + 80 = `200
Trade value in 2010 = 140 + 100 = `240
Trade value in 2011 = 90 + 110 = `200
Trade value in 2012 = 130 + 150 = `280
Trade value in 2013 = 180 + 140 = `320
Hence, the trade value in 2009 and 2011 are equal.

7). There are only two years where I > E. Hence, trade deficit only in 2011 and 2012.
There are three years where E > I. Trade surplus only in 2009, 2010 and 2013.
Required ratio = 2 : 3

8). Required % = 28 – 20 / 20 × 100 = 40%

9). From the graph, in 2013, the trade value (E + I) is the highest.
Hence, trade value in 2013 = E + I = 180 + 140 = `320 crore

10). Trade deficit in 2011 = 110 – 90 = 20 crore
Trade deficit in 2012 = 150 – 130 = 20 crore
Total trade deficit in both the years together
= 20 + 20 = `40 crore.
