Answers:
1)b   2)c   3)a   4)a   5)e   6)a   7)d   8)c   9)e   10)b  11)b   12)a   13)d   14)a   15)b

Solutions:
1). b)

The required ratio = a : c = 40 : 120 = 1 : 3

2). c)
Explanation: X*9*14/ 100*2 – x*7*16/ 100*2  = 60
By solving the above equation for x we get Rs.857.14

3). a)
The difference between B and C’s age will remain same
Let C’s present age = x, so B’s present age = (x+2)
sum of the present ages of A and B is 50, so A’s age becomes = 50-(x+2) =48-x
now A is younger than C by 4 years, so 48-x = x – 4
Solve, x = 26
B’s present age = x+2 = 28
Before 8 years, B’s age = 28-8 = 20

4). a)
Suppose the sum borrowed = Rs X
Rate of interest = R% Time = 2 years
4000=[X x R x 2 ]/100 [simple interesr formula] RX=200,000………….(1)
compound interest= P(1+r/n)^nt
X[1+ (R/100)]^2= X+4200
after solving and using value of RX
we get R=10%

5). e)
A fill the tank in 1 minute (20×2 = 40) = 2 units
B fill the tank in 1 minute (40×1 = 40) =  1units
For 18 min(A) = 18×2 = 36 units
Remaining = 40 – 36 = 4 units
Time for B be closed  so that the tank is full in 18 minutes = 4/1 = 4 min

6). a)
7). c)
8). d)
9). e)
10). b)
