i. On 14th November, Children’s Day is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of our first Prime Minister Pt.Jawaharlal Nehru. Pundit Nehru had a great love for children. He wanted to be among them, talk to them and play with them. The children also loved and respected him and called him CHACHA NEHRU.
World Diabetes Day: 14 November
i. The World Diabetes Day is observed across the world on 14 November. The theme for this year is "Eyes on Diabetes". World Diabetes Day is an annual campaign, led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and its member associations. It is celebrated every year on 14 November and engages millions of people worldwide in diabetes advocacy and awareness.
Union Government launches ‘KahinBhi-KabhiBhi’ medical facilities for ESIC beneficiaries of Delhi
i. Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) launched ‘KahinBhi-KabhiBhi’ medical facilities for its beneficiaries of Delhi. KahinBhi means any dispensary/Hospital and KabhiBhi means anytime. The initiative KahinBhi-KabhiBhi’ was launched by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employment, BandaruDattatreya.
ii. With this initiative, all the network of dispensaries of Delhi has been made accessible to insured persons and their family members all the time. The initiative aims at saving time of the beneficiaries as well as the effort that he/she makes to avail the services.
iii. Besides, BandaruDattatreya also inaugurated the ‘06 bedded Day Care Unit’ of ESI Dispensary in Sector-7, Dwarka in Delhi. With this, the ESIC Dispensary Dwarka turned up to be a complete unit in itself with several medical facilities. The facilities available in Dwarka dispensary includes General OPD Care, Family Welfare Services, full time Laboratory and X-Ray and Diagnostic care.
President Mukherjee inaugurates the India International Trade Fair
i. President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday inaugurated the India International Trade Fair which will see participation of over 150 companies from 27 countries.This year's edition of the mega trade fair with 'Digital India' theme is being held between November 14-27.
ii. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, he observed that "digital technologies, e-commerce, e-enabled and mobile services are major components of e-governance and will over the time contribute significantly to GDP growth."
PM Modi to visit Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh today
i. Prime Minister NarendraModi will visit Ghazipur district of eastern Uttar Pradesh today to launch several rail projects and will flag off weekly ShabdBhedi Superfast express train from Ghazipur to Kolkata. MrModi will also inaugurate newly built Perishable Cargo Centre at GazipurGhat station.
ii. During his visit, he will also lay foundation of Rail-cum-Road bridge over Ganga river between Mau-Tadighat rail line and the doubling of the Ghazipur city-Ballia Rail section. The Prime Minister will address a public meeting. This will be his first public address in the State after the BJP started ParivartanYatra in Uttar Pradesh.
President to give away awards on Children’s day today
i. President Pranab Mukherjee will give away awards to children today for their exceptional achievements on the Children’s day which is celebrated on November 14th every year on the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. The awards are given in two categories- Rajiv Gandhi ManavSeva Award to individuals and National Award for Child Welfare to institutions and individuals.
ii. Five institutions and three individuals are being given the National Award for Child Welfare, 2015, which includes cash prize of three lakh rupees to each institution and one lakh rupees to individual. Three individuals are being awarded the Rajiv Gandhi ManavSeva Award, 2016, which include cash prize of one lakh rupees.
The National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievement, 2016 include One Gold Medal and 30 Silver Medals. A cheque of twenty thousand rupees will be given to Gold Medalist and ten thousand rupees will be given to each Silver Medalist in the age group of 5 to 18 years.
Thousands throng bank of river Mahanadi on KartikPurnima in Odisha
i. People in thousands throng the bank of river Mahanadi to celebrate KartikPurnima in Odisha today. After observing 'Panchuka'- a five days ritual, devotees rush to water bodies to float holy boats made up of paper, banana trunks or just leaves. The practice dating back to hundreds of years, is believed to be utmost holy and pious, which culminates on the full moon day of the month of Kartik today.
ii. It is popularly called, 'dangabhasa' or "Boita Bandana" which also commomerates the historic voyage of Odia traders called SadhabaPua to distant lands of Java, Sumatra, Burneo and Bali. A huge festival called Bali Yatra also begins from today by the riverside of Mahanadi in Cuttack.
Digital India transforming lives of millions of common men
i. Minister of Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad has said, Digital India is transforming the lives of millions of common men especially in rural and semi urban areas in many ways. ii. Inaugurating the theme Pavilion Digital India at India International Trade Fair (IITF), in New Delhi today, Mr Prasad said, ordinary citizens are using technology for improving their quality of life, increasing income and empowering the people. He said, Prime Minister NarendraModi wants to ensure that all payments are transparent and Digital India will play a vital role in this initiative.
Second edition of National children's film festival begins in Jaipur
i. The second edition of National children's film festival (NCFF) began today in Jaipur. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting RajyavardhanRathore along with chairman of CFSI, Dr. Shravan Kumar, CEO, CFSI inaugurated the festival. ii. With "Make in India" as the central theme of the second edition of NCFF, it will display films in 12 theaters in Jaipur in three days where children can enjoy the films. Actors Anil Kapoor and Irfan Khan were also present on the occasion.
UAE's first UNESCO World Heritage site opens to public
i. 'Al Ain Oasis' in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, has become the country's first UNESCO World Heritage site to open to public. One of the world's oldest continually inhabited settlements, it spreads nearly 3,000 acres and contains over 1,47,000 date palms. The city of Al Ain became the first site in UAE to be included in UNESCO's list in 2011.
APEC Forum's Week starts in Lima, Peru
i. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum's Week starts in Lima, Peru today bringing together leaders of world's largest economies, businessmen and investors. A creation of Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, which would include all APEC states, is one of the main topics on the agenda of the 2016 APEC Summit that is widely seen as the premier business event drawing together business and economic leaders of 21 Pacific Rim countries.
ii. The creation of a free trade zone that would include all APEC members is viewed as an alternative to the TPP, which excludes China and Russia, was framed by President Braxcak Obama Obama in an effort to guarantee US economic leadership in the region before Beijing does.
Israeli President arrives in Delhi on 8-day visit to India
i. President of Israel, ReuvenRivlin, arrived in Delhi this afternoon on an eight day visit to India. President Rivlin is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising of officials, academicians and business leaders. He will have bilateral talks with Prime Minister NarendraModi tomorrow. He will also meet President Pranab Mukherjee, on whose invitation he is visiting the country.
ii. Vice President Hamid Ansari and External Affairs Minister SushmaSwaraj will call on the visiting dignitary.During the visit,MrRivlin is likely to meet business leaders of both of India and Israel. He will also visit Centre of Excellence in Agriculture in Karnal and participate in Agro Tech - 2016. He will also visit the TajMahal during his stay.
RBI Issues Licence to Ujjivan
i. Ujjivan Financial Services Ltd subsidiary Ujjivan Small Finance Bank Ltd has got RBI licence to set up Small Finance Bank business. Ujjivan Financial Services is the promoter company. Ujjivan Small Finance Bank is in the process of seeking necessary approvals, prior to the commencement of the banking business. On receipt of mandatory approvals, it will commence operations.
What is a micro-ATM, how does it function?
i. Micro-ATMs are portable devices that allow banking transactions including cash deposit, withdrawal and fund transfer using debit or RuPay cards. The micro-ATM identifies the customer through an identity proof, generally the Aadhaar, which is linked to their bank account. The bank representative carrying the machine acts as the cash cache. The micro-ATM also prints a receipt for all transactions.
Federal Bank to open its first overseas branch in Dubai
i. Federal Bank said it has received Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s permission to open its first international branch at the Dubai International Financial Centre.The bank, in a statement, said the permission is subject to other approvals from the host regulator, Dubai Financial Services Authority.The proposed branch at Dubai will help the Bank serve its Non-Resident clientele better, the statement added.
ii. Federal Bank has its Representative Office at Abu Dhabi that serves as a nerve centre for NRI customers in the UAE. The Bank also has an IFSC Banking Unit (IBU) in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City). The private sector bank operates through a branch network of 1,252 branches and 1,524 ATMs spread across the country. The Bank’s total business mix (deposits + advances) stands at Rs. 1.37 Lakh Crore as at March 31, 2016.
Yes Bank Appoints AmreshAcharyaAs Head Global Indian Banking
i. Private sector lender Yes Bank said it has appointed AmreshAcharya as Group President and Head of Global Indian Banking.Acharya will report to Senior Group President, Retail and Business Banking PralayMondal.
ii. "As an important addition to Yes Bank's top management, Amresh will be responsible for driving Global Indian Banking business to generate significant mindshare for Yes Bank in identified International and Domestic NRI geographies including the Yes First and Yes Private Segments," the bank said in a release.
iii. Acharya will play a vital role in capturing market share on a global scale and build stable CASA/deposits, and fee income through distribution of banking and investment products, it added.
London tops 'World's Best City Brands' list
i. London topped the World's Best City Brands list, as per Resonance Consultancy's 2017 global Place Equity Index. Singapore, New York, Paris, and Sydney completed the top five spots in the ranking. The report evaluated global principal cities on various categories like- Place, Product, Programming, People, Prosperity and Promotion. The list was recently released at the World Travel Market in London.
Indian-origin humanitarian gets Global Citizen Award
i. An Indian-origin man from South Africa was awarded the Global Citizen Award for his "innovative and visionary" contribution to the global community. ImtiazSooliman founded the internationally-lauded Gift of the Givers Foundation, which is Africa's largest disaster relief organisation. "It will build faith and confidence in others to support African NGOs in the future".
Gulzar named for Tata LitFest's Poet Laureate 2016 award
i. Lyricist-writer Gulzar will be honoured with this year's Tata Literature Live! Poet Laureate Award, an official said here on Saturday. The award which includes a citation, plaque and cash prize, will be presented to Gulzar, an Oscar and Grammy Award winner, at the inaugural of the festival on November 17 here, read a statement.
ii. As the 7th Tata literature festival coincides with the 400th death anniversary of the legendary William Shakespeare, Gulzar has penned an Urdu ode to him specially for the event.Gulzar has been honoured five times with the National Film Award in 1972 (Koshish), the DadasahebPhalke Award in 2013, SahityaAkademi Award in 2002, and the Padma Bhushan over the years. Last year, the award was conferred on Vikram Seth.

14-year-old develops physics-based Android game 'Bloxx'
i. A 14-year-old Hungarian student named Daniel Kiss has developed Bloxx, a physics-based game for Android devices.
ii. The 3D game is focussed on users controlling a sphere from start to end point across various obstacles without letting it fall, over 30 levels of gradually increasing difficulty. The game is available on the Google Play Store at $0.99.
New emojis to include hijab, breastfeeding, yoga
i. The consortium that approves emojis has signed off new ones, including a woman wearing a hijab, woman breastfeeding a baby and a person doing yoga.The new emojis are likely to arrive on smartphones next year after Unicode, the international consortium that sets their global standards, proposed the 51 icons.
ii. It will take the total number of the cartoon images, which are increasingly being used to replace words in text messages, to 1,724, The Telegraph reported.RayoufAlhumedhi, a 15-year-old from Germany, had campaigned for the inclusion of the character wearing a hijab emoji, proposing it to Unicode after realising there was no emoji to represent her.
Punjab National Bank Win Surjit Hockey
i. Punjab National Bank, Delhi beat Army XI (6-5) to win the 33rd Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium. The decision of the match came from penalty shootouts. Winners Punjab National Bank bagged a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a trophy. The runners-up received Rs 2.50 lakh and a trophy. Gagandeep Singh (Jr) of PNB was declared the best player of the tournament.
Aditi Ashok becomes the first to win women's Indian Open tournament
i. Teen golf sensation Aditi Ashok scripted history yesterday as she became the first Indian woman to win a Ladies European Tour title by clinching the Hero Women's Indian Open at Gurugram. The 18-year-old Olympian held her nerve to get the better of American Brittany Lincicome and Spain's Belen Mozo. ii. Aditi won a prize purse of 60,000 dollar, propelling her to the top spot in the Rookie of the Year rankings.
Lewis Hamilton wins Brazilian Grand Prix to take F1 title fight to final
i. In Formula-1, Lewis Hamilton produced a masterful performance to win a wet, chaotic, crash-strewn Brazilian Grand Prix and take the title fight to the final race. His ninth win of 2016 came in a race with several high-speed accidents, two stoppages and five safety cars. The victory cut the lead of his Mercedes team-mate NicoRosberg, who finished second, to 12 points. Rosberg will secure the championship if he finishes third in Abu Dhabi on 27th November, even if Hamilton wins.
Thirush 1st woman to be given out for obstructing the field
i. India's ThirushKamini became the first woman cricketer across formats to be given out for obstructing the field, during an ODI against West Indies on Sunday. A batsman is given out if he or she deliberately blocks the ball to avoid a runout. Among male cricketers, Ben Stokes is the most recent to get dismissed in this manner in 2015.
