NATIONAL

IMD Director, Ministry of Earth Sciences Secy inaugurate WIFEX 2016-17

Ministry of Earth Sciences Secretary Dr. Madhavan Nair Rajeevan, and Director, Indian Meteorological Department Dr. M. Mohapatra, today inaugurated the Winter Fog Experiment (WIFEX) 2016-17 Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rajeevan said, the presence of heavy fog in the northern regions of the country is one of the major reasons that leads to delay in flights. Forecast of the fog from the WIFEX model will be made operational for winter 2017-18. Dr. Mohapatra, said, the aim of the observational campaign is to achieve the better understanding of the fog life cycle and improve capability in fog prediction.

President Mukherjee to inaugurate 1st ever International Gita Mahotsav
President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the first ever International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra, Haryana today. The President will also lay the foundation stone of Krishna circuit on the occasion. In a five day mega event, many spiritual leaders from different religions, scholars and artists from various countries will participate. The Mahotsav will set a world record with the recitation of Ashtadash Shaloki Gita by as many as 18 thousand students at one go.
NITI Aayog to provide Rs 5 lakh per district
To encourage each district in the country to take the digitization route without fear, the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog will be immediately transferring Rs.5 lakh to each district as seed money to kick start this drive. A letter has been written to the district collector, commissioners and magistrates in this regard by NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, who is also a member of the committee to promote cashless payments.
Aadhaar cards mandatory for senior citizens to avail concessions on train ticket
From 1st of April next year, reservation of rail tickets for senior citizens will be directly linked to Aadhaar or Unique Identification cards on a mandatory basis for availing concessions at both counter and e-tickets. However, such a requirement will be optional from next month till March.
Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), AK Manocha said, it is a salutary measure designed to streamline the reservation process for people in such a category. He said, it is a most ambitious push to Aadhaar-based ecosystem in Indian Railways network that would end fraudulent bookings and curb cases of impersonation
Govt to create accreditation centres in IIT, IIM
Government is planning to create accreditation centres in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIM). Replying to a question in LokSabha, Minister of State for Human Resource Development Mahendra Nath Pandey yesterday said that the government has a proposal in this regard to speed up the accreditation process.
Earlier, HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar had said, the government will float an idea to enable IITs and IIMs become accreditation bodies so that burden of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council is eased.
Mahagovt works on 'Maha wallet' to encourage cashless transactions
Maharashtra government is working on 'Maha wallet' to encourage cashless transactions. The aim is to mitigate the impact of demonetization on people. Maha wallet will be an e-service where the citizens' money would be secure. Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that he has asked IT department to prepare a report in this regard and submit it in a fortnight.
Government wants to ensure that the system is modeled to help small vendors, farmers and all those who deal in cash transactions. It will also consider various facets such as the needs of people who are well versed in net banking and those who are not.
Haryana bans carrying of arms at weddings
Haryana government in the first week of December 2016 banned the carrying of arms at wedding functions. The ban was announced after several incidents of celebratory firing were reported, including the death of an orchestra dancer in Bhatinda.
The ban was imposed under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code and as per an official release firing in the air is also an offence, which is punishable by six months’ imprisonment.Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Ram Niwas said it has been noticed that most often people indulge in celebratory firing during the occasions of marriage.
The incident occurs after they consume alcohol. Thus, to make sure that such incidents don’t take place, the Police Department has been directed to put a check on carrying of arms at wedding functions, it will be done in the coordination of the concerned district magistrate
INTERNATIONAL
India has agreed to train Vietnam’s Sukhoi-30 fighter pilots.
This agreement was signed during bilateral discussions between Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and his Vietnamese counterpart, General Ngo Xuan Lich in New Delhi.It covers a cross-section of activities, including training of pilots and exchange of experts. Under it, Vietnamese pilots will be trained in India. The two Air Forces are working out the numbers, scope and the cost of training.
India already is training Vietnamese sailors in operating Kilo class submarines. Vietnam has been inducting Russian made Kilo class submarines since January 2014.Both India and Vietnam operate Russian Su-30 fighter jets. However the models of fighter jets operated by both countries differ slightly in their configuration.Besides, both countries also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on peacekeeping as well as exchange of delegations.

Bank of Baroda has raised Rs 1,000 crore by issuing bonds
Bank of Baroda has raised Rs 1,000 crore by issuing bonds that are compliant with global capital adequacy norms or Basel III. The bank has issued &alloted bonds with issue size of Rs 1,000 crore. The bonds will carry interest rate of 8.5 per cent. Another state owned lender, State Bank of Travancore , said it will raise Rs 600 crore by issuing such bonds.


YES Bank, Ola Join Hands
YES Bank has partnered Ola to set up mobile ATMs for cash withdrawal.The service will be made available in over 30 locations across 10 cities.Customers can swipe debit cards of any bank to withdraw an amount of up to Rs. 2,000 per card. This is enabled using Point of Sales machines available in Ola cabs stationed near YES Bank branches across locations in these cities.
MMTC to tie-up with SBI to sell govt minted 'Indian Gold Coin'
India’s largest public sector trading body MMTC (Metals and Minerals Trading gold Corporation) has tied-up with the State Bank of India (SBI) to sell government-minted Indian Gold Coin(24 Karat) which will be available in denominations of 5gm, 10gm and 20 gm bar.




India has received over US $300 billion US Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) milestone.
The cumulative FDI inflows during the period amounted to US $310.26 billion. With this, India firmly established its credentials as a safe investment destination in the world.33% of the FDI came through the Mauritius route. India received US $101.76 billion dollar from Mauritius between April 2000 and September 2016.
India’s services sector received maximum 18% of the cumulative equity FDI inflows. It was followed by construction development, computer software & hardware, telecommunication and automobile. Liberalisation of the FDI policy framework supplemented by major national development programmes such as Make in India, Skill India and Digital India besides increasing competitiveness, have made India the preferred choice for investors globally.
Mauritius route is preferred by investors because they wanted to take advantage of India’s double taxation avoidance treaty (DTAA) with the island nation. Besides Mauritius, other big investors have been from Singapore, US, UK and the Netherlands.

EESL plans to open counters in Tripura for selling low cost LED bulbs, fans
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture company of PSUs under the Ministry of Power has planned to open counters in Tripura for selling low cost LED bulbs and electric fans. For the purpose, the company will soon open distribution counters at all 66 numbers electric sub-divisions in the state.
The decision was taken with the launching of centrally sponsored UJALA scheme yesterday at Agartala. State power Minister ManikDey launched the scheme in presence officials of EESL and State electrical corporation.
The PSU has a plan to distribute over 20 lakh LED bulbs, 5 lakh tube lights and 50, 000 fans. Tripura government is further going to sign an agreement with EESL to cover 19 municipal and nagarpanchayat areas under LED street lighting.

Chapecoense awarded Copa Sudamericana in posthumous tribute
Brazilian football club Chapecoense have been awarded the Copa Sudamericana title by the CONMEBOL, the South American football association.  After 19 members of the team were killed in the Colombia plane crash. The Brazilian football club were flying to face Colombian football club Atlético Nacional, the defending Copa Libertadores champion, in the final of the tournament.

O Panneerselvam sworn in as new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
After the demise of AIADMK supremo& Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at the Apollo Hospital, her loyalist O Panneerselvam has been sworn in as Chief Minister at a sombre ceremony at the Raj Bhawan along with all the ministers in the erstwhile Jayalalithaa Cabinet. The AIADMK MLAs met at the party headquarters to elect Mr Panneerselvam as the successor to Jayalalithaa.
At a solemn ceremony in the Raj Bhavan, Mr. Panneerselvam was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao. This was his third swearing-in as Chief Minister. All 31 members of the outgoing Ministry were sworn in along with him. As Jayalalithaa’s trusted man, Mr. Panneerselvam had stepped into her shoes for two brief periods — during 2001-02 and 2014-15 — after she was unseated by the courts
Shavkat Mirziyoyev elected Uzbekistan President
Uzbekistan's Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev became the country's second president after winning 88.61% vote in the first presidential election since the death of the authoritarian leader and President Islam Karimov. Mirziyoyev has been PM since 2003 and was serving as interim president since Karimov's demise.

France PM Manuel Valls resigns and declares presidential candidacy
France PM, Manuel Valls, has resigned from Prime minister shaft and to declare himself a candidate for the presidency.  Manuel Carlos Valls Galfetti is a French politician elected as the Prime Minister of France from 31 March 2014 till 6 December 2016. He was the Minister of the Interior from 2012 to 2014. He is also a member of the Socialist Party.
Praful Patel appointed as AFC senior VP
All India Football Federation President Praful Patel has been appointed as a Senior Vice-President of Asian Football Confederation. Under Patel's tutelage, India won the rights to host the Fifa U-17 World Cup India 2017 and hosted the AFC U-16 Championship in September 2016.



B.S. Bhullar was appointed as the Chief of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The post of the Chief of DGCA was lying vacant for over four months after M Sathiyavathy, a 1982-batch IAS officer of the union territories cadre, was named as new Union Labour Secretary in July 2016. She was the first woman chief of the aviation regulator.At present, Bhullar, a 1986-batch IAS officer, is working as an Additional Secretary in Civil Aviation Ministry.
He was also holding the additional charge of the DGCA. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is the Indian governmental regulatory body for civil aviation under the Ministry of Civil Aviation. It is headquartered in New Delhi. It investigates aviation accidents and incidents.
AirAsia has announced the appointment of Amar Abrol as its Managing Director.
Abrol holds over two decades of experience in different markets including Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK and Malaysia. He was appointed as CEO of the airline in April 2016.AirAsia India is an Indian low cost carrier. It is headquartered in Chennai.
It is the first foreign airline to set up a subsidiary in India.It marked Tata’s return to the aviation industry after 60 years, having ceded Air India in 1946. As of February 2016, AirAsia India is the fourth largest low cost carrier in India, after IndiGo, GoAir and SpiceJet.

Google launches personal safety app 'Trusted Contacts'
Google has launched a new personal safety app called 'Trusted Contacts' that lets users share their location with trusted people in everyday situations and emergencies.  This app works even without the internet or when a user is unable to reach the phone. This app can also automatically share the user's location when they do not respond within a reasonable timeframe.

INS Sumitra reaches Darwin, Australia
In pursuit of India’s Act East policy and outreach to friendly countries, the Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel Sumitra, has reached Darwin, Australia today. The ship is on her return passage to India after participating in the Royal New Zealand Navy International Naval Review 2016.
The three day visit aims at strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing maritime security cooperation between the two countries. During Patrol Vessels' stay in harbour, various activities are planned towards enhancing cooperation and mutual understanding between the two navies such as professional interactions with Royal Australian Navy and discussions towards further enhancing inter-operability.
ISRO to launch Resource Sat-2A on 7th of Dec
The Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO, will launch PSLV C 36 Resource Sat-2A tomorrow at 10.25 am from the SatishDhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. The 36-hour count down of the satellite launch started at 10.25 pm yesterday. It is intended to continue the remote sensing data services to global users and would carry similar payloads as carried by its predecessors RESOURCESAT-1 & RESOURCESAT-2.
PSLV-C36 is the thirty eighth flight of ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. It will place the 1,235 kg RESOURCESAT-2A into an 817 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit PSLV which has emerged as the workhorse launch vehicle of ISRO for launching satellites for international customers. During 1994-2016 period, PSLV has launched a total of 121 satellites. 79 satellites are from abroad and 42 Indian satellites.
OBITUARY
Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa passes away
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jayaraman  passed away at a Chennai hospital last night (05th December 2016), the 68-year old AIADMK supremo breathed her last at 11:30 PM at the Apollo Hospital. She had suffered a massive cardiac arrest. Jayalalithaa was admitted to the hospital on September 22, 2016 following complaints of fever and dehydration, but she never fully recovered. Jayalalithaa's body was taken to her Poes Garden residence before being taken to Rajaji Hall, where people can pay their last respects to the departed soul.
Tamil Nadu government has announced a seven-day State Mourning from 06th December 2016. During the period, the national flag on all government buildings will be flown at half-mast. No official entertainment will also be held during this period, The government has also declared a three-day holiday for all educational institutions in the state. The neighbouring union territory of Puducherry has also announced a holiday for all government offices and educational institutions as a mark of respect to Jayalalithaa.
B R Ambedkar's death anniversary: 6 December
The Nation is remembering the architect of the Indian Constitution and Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar on his 60th death anniversary. DrAmbedkar died on this day in 1956. Since then, Mahaparinirvan Diwas is observed every year to pay him tributes.
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (14th April 1891 – 6th December 1956), popularly known as Babasaheb, was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who inspired the Dalit Buddhist Movement and campaigned against social discrimination against Untouchables, while also supporting the rights of women and labour. He was Independent India's first law minister and the principal architect of the Constitution of India.
