    PM Modi to go on 4-nation tour in Africa in July:

    ·       Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Africa next month to boost India’s economic and maritime ties with Tanzania, South Africa, Kenya and Mozambique.
    ·       The key topics of discussion during the tour will include energy security, food security, ocean economy, education, health, skill-building, and infrastructure.
    ·       Reportedly, India’s bilateral trade with Africa stands at $70 billion.
    India, Ghana sign three agreements to strengthen co-operation in varied fields:
    ·       India and Ghana signed three bilateral agreements to strengthen co-operation in varied fields.
    ·       The agreements were signed during the first ever visit of President Pranab Mukherjee to Ghana, a nation on West Africa’s Gulf of Guinea.
    Gujarat Government to launch mobile app for delivery of common services:

    ·       The Gujarat government has decided to launch the mobile app ‘Digital Gujarat’ by August 15.
    ·       Aim  to put most of the services on the fingertips of citizens, so that they don’t have to visit government offices, Dhananjay Dwivedi, Secretary – state’s Science and Technology department, said.
    ·       Initially,it would offer 30 services for which the citizens hitherto had to visit government offices or access the online portal digitalgujarat.gov.in.

    Arun Jaitley, State FMs taking part in two-day meet on GST bill:
    ·       Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and all State Finance Ministers are taking part in a two-day meeting of the Empowered Committee on the Goods and Services Tax Bill which began in Kolkata.
    ·       West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra is presiding over the meeting.
    ·       Presently,Mr Mitra is the Chairperson of the Empowered Committee on the GST.
    ·       The GST bill, which will help create a single national sales tax to replace several state and central levies, has already been approved by the Lok Sabha and is pending in the Rajya Sabha, where the government doesn’t have a majority.
    AirAsia Group chief gets Overseas Citizen of India status:

    ·       Malaysia’s AirAsia Group chief Tony Fernandes has been given the status of Overseas Citizen of India (OIC) by the Indian government, amid concerns in certain quarters over control at budget carrier AirAsia India.
    ·       AirAsia India is a joint venture between AirAsia and Tatas, each holding 49% stake.
    ·       The remaining shares are with the carrier’s two directors — S Ramadorai and R Venkataramanan.
    The Rise of Environmental Crime Report released by UNEP and INTERPOL:

    ·       The report titled The Rise of Environmental Crime was released by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and INTERPOL.
    ·       The report revealed that environmental crime grew up by 26 per cent larger than previous estimates of 2014.
    ·       Environmental crime is the world’s fourth-largest criminal enterprise after drug smuggling, counterfeiting and human trafficking.
    ·       INTERPOL and UNEP have joined forces to bring awareness in the world about the environmental crime.
    ·       The crime includes the illegal trade in wildlife, corporate crime in the forestry sector, the illegal exploitation and sale of gold and other minerals, illegal fisheries, the trafficking of hazardous waste and carbon credit fraud.
    US reopens Gambia embassy after guards return:
    ·       US Embassy in Gambian capital Banjul has reopened for normal operations after the Gambian government redeployed police guards it withdrew last week.
    ·       The mission was closed for all but essential services on last Thursday after the protection force was withdrawn by the host country.
    ·       The embassy reopened yesterday after the elite Police Intervention Unit started guarding the mission.
    World’s first vaccine developed against “tampon disease”:

    ·       Scientists have developed what they say is the world’s first safe and effective vaccine against Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) that often occurs in young women who use “super tampons” during their periods.
    Ranu Langthasa appointed as first woman chairperson of NCHAC in Assam:

    ·       Ranu Langthasa was unanimously appointed as the chairperson of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in Assam.
    ·       With this,she also became the first women chairpersonto be appointed to the post since the formation of Autonomous Council in 1950s.
    Justice Rakesh Ranjan Prasad takes charge of Chief Justice of Manipur HC:
    ·       Justice Rakesh Ranjan Prasad, the senior-most Judge of the Manipur High Court assumed charge of the Chief Justice of the High Court.
    ·       He succeeded Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra who relinquished the office on 9 June 2016.
    Gopal Rai resigns as Delhi Transport Minister:

    ·       Gopal Rai resigned as Delhi Transport Minister, citing health reasons.
    ·       While Rai will retain the Irrigation and Labour portfolios,Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain will now take over the Transport Ministry.
    RBI introduces Scheme for Sustainable Structuring of Stressed Assets:

    ·       The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued the guidelines on  the Scheme for Sustainable Structuring of Stressed Assets.
    ·       The guidelines were issued with an aim to further strengthen the lenders’ ability to deal with stressed assets and to put real assets back on track.
    BRICS bank to issue maiden local currency bond:
    ·       The New Development Bank (NDB), established by the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries plans its first bond as a Yuan-denominated issue in China, a bank official said.
    ·       The official added the bank will also issue bonds in other member countries in their local currencies to mitigate foreign currency risk of funded infrastructure projects.
    Sovereign gold bonds’ trading on exchange begins:

    ·       The sovereign gold bonds started trading on the stock exchanges (BSE and NSE) for the first time.
    ·       The government had issued gold bonds in three tranches starting November last year for about five tonnes worth of gold.
    ·       The securities ended the day’s trade at 3,180 per gram on the BSE, 18% higher than the issue price.
    DCB Bank launches Aadhaar-based ATM in Bengaluru:

    ·       DCB Bank launched a “card-less and PIN-less” ATM in Bengaluru.
    ·       The ATM accepts Aadhaar number and Aadhaar fingerprint (biometric) instead of ATM / debit card and PIN to dispense cash from the bank account.

    Market cap: ICICI Bank, SBI out of top 10:
    ·       Asset quality woes have evicted two major lenders — State Bank of India and ICICI Bank — out of the top ten most-valued companies in terms of market capitalisation.
    ·       While the two banks were ranked sixth and ninth, respectively, at the beginning of last year, they are now (as on June 10) in the 11th and 13th positions.
    9-yr-old Indian-origin youngest at Apple’s WWDC:

    ·       Anvitha Vijay, a nine-year-old Indian-origin girl is the youngest attendee at the Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this year.
    ·       She has built several apps including Smartkins Animals and Smartkins Rainbow Colours, which helps kids recognise over 100 animals and learn about different colours respectively.
    ·       Vijay is among the 350 developers selected for Apple’s scholarship.
    Indian-American Author Akhil Sharma wins 2016 International Dublin Literary Award:
    ·       Indian American author Akhil Sharma won the prestigious 2016 International Dublin Literary Award for his semi-autobiographical novel “Family Life.”
    ·       His novel was shortlisted out of an initial 160 nominations by a panel of judges of award that included novelists Ian Sansom, Juan Pablo Villalobos and Carlo Gebler.
    ·       Family Life is Sharma’s second novel and took him 13 years to write. The novel traces the journey of a family that emigrates from New Delhi to New York, where one brother is left severely brain-damaged after a tragedy strikes.
    Bitcoin price surges to two-year high:

    ·       The price of digital currency Bitcoin surged 21% over the weekend to a two-year high of $720.77, it’s highest level since February 2014.
    ·       Nearly 85% of the transactions were accounted for by Chinese investors, who, according to analysts, are investing in Bitcoin after IMF’s report suggested a systemic risk in the country due to massive corporate debt.
    SKS changes name to Bharat Financial Inclusion:
    ·       Non-banking lending firm SKS Microfinance has changed its name to Bharat Financial Inclusion, the company announced.
    ·       The decision to change the name was taken in line with a shift in the company’s core principles towards expanding the financial inclusion in the country, the company had said in May.
    ·       Notably, SKS is the only publicly-listed microfinance company in India.
    Jet Airways to launch Hyderabad-Sharjah flight in August:

    ·       Private full-service carrier Jet Airways has announced launch of an additional flight on the Hyderabad-Dammam Mangaluru-Sharjah route from August.
    ·       Dammam will be the second city in the Gulf region to be connected with Hyderabad by Jet Airways after Abu Dhabi.
    ·       Deploy narrow-body Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft in a two-cabin class
    Government eyeing to sell Nokia plant to Foxconn:
    ·       Government representatives from New Delhi and Tamil Nadu have met Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn’s founder Terry Gou about a potential sale of Nokia’s Chennai factory.
    ·       This points to a concerted push to revive operations at the 212-acre facility on the outskirts of Chennai that was once a symbol of Indian prowess in manufacturing mobile handsets.
    Sony launches Hindi movie channel:

    ·       Broadcaster Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) has launched a free-to-air Hindi movie channel ‘Sony Wah’ targeted at the audience in small towns and rural areas.
    Microsoft signs agreement to acquire LinkedIn for $26.2 billion:

    ·       Microsoft Corporation and LinkedIn Corporation announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement.
    ·       As per the agreement, Microsoft will acquire LinkedIn for 196 dollar per share in an all-cash transaction valued at 26.2 billion dollar, inclusive of LinkedIn’s net cash.
    ·       However, LinkedIn will retain its distinct brand, culture and independence.
    Apple launches new macOS version ‘macOS Sierra’:
    ·       Apple launched a new version of its Mac operating system called ‘macOS Sierra’.
    ·       The new operating system will automatically push old files — videos watched, pictures which the user hasn’t looked at in a long time — into the cloud.
    ·       It also auto unlocks when it detects the connected iPhone or Watch nearby.
    Microsoft’s 1st major acquisition was PowerPoint:

    ·       Tech major Microsoft had acquired Forethought, a software company that developed PowerPoint, in 1987 for $14 million, making it the first significant acquisitionfor the company.
    ·       Founded by Rob Campbell and Taylor Pohlman in 1983, the PowerPoint program, which was later known as Microsoft PowerPoint, allowed Macintosh users to create slides, transparencies and flip charts for use in presentations.
    Jupiter-like planet orbiting two stars discovered:
    ·       Scientists have discovered a Jupiter-like planet orbiting a system of two stars, making it the largest such cosmic body ever found. The planet Kepler-1647b, located in the constellation.
    ·       Cygnus, was discovered by astronomers from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Centre and San Diego State University in the US.
    ·       Kepler-1647 is 3,700 light-years away and about 4.4 billion years old, roughly the same age as the Earth, researchers said.
    Alibaba B2B shuts India offices as it expands reseller plan:

    ·       Jack Ma-led e-commerce giant Alibaba announced it was strengthening its India business as it launched a reseller platform.
    ·       However, the scaling down of the Chinese company’s physical presence in the country, which came alongside the reseller plan.
    Twitter launches first-ever #EveryCharacterMatters week:
    ·       From June 13-17, Twitter India will celebrate young creators and users in its first-ever week-long live showcase called #EveryCharacterMatters.
    Indian men’s 4x400m relay team breaks 18-year-old national record:

    ·       The Indian men’s 4x400m relay team on 12 June 2016 created a new national record, clocking 3:02.17 at the International Sprint and Relay Teams Cup at Erzurum, Turkey.
    ·       On the other hand, theIndian women’s 4x400m relay team clocked 3:30.16 and jumped to world No 12 in the rankings.
    ·       In the 2016 South Asian Games, the women’s relay team finished the race with a timing of 3:35.44 to win the gold. They also recorded their fastest time of 3:29.08 in the 2016 IAAF World Championships which took place in Beijing.
    USA wins FINA Women Water Polo World League Super Final:
    ·       The USA Women’s Senior National Team won gold at the FINA Women Water Polo World League Super Final.
    ·        The team defeated Spain 13-9 in the championship match in Shanghai, China.
    ·       The victory marks the United States’ third straight FINA World League Super Final title and 10th overall.
    ·       On the other hand, Australia defeated China 11-3 for the bronze medal.
    Donald Carr, former England Cricket captain, dies aged 89:

    ·       Donald Carr, the former captain of England Cricket team, died. He was 89.
    ·       Beside prominent batsman Carr was also one of the most prominent administrators of the post-war era.
