    Haryana to have India’s 1st AYUSH university:
    ·        The Haryana government on Saturday gave its approval to set up an AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) University, the first-of-its-kind in India.
    ·        The university, to be formed by upgrading Shri Krishna Government Ayurvedic College in Kurukshetra, would offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in all the AYUSH systems, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said.
    Assam government announces free admission for Divyang students in government institutes:

    ·        The Assam government has announced free admission for Divyang students in government institutes.
    ·        State Education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the initiative will implement from this year.
    ·        Earlier, Education department announced free education up to undergraduate level for all students from poor and lower middle class families whose family income does not exceed Rs. One lakh per annum.
    IRCTC launches mobile app to book air tickets:

    ·        The IRCTC has launched an Android mobile app ‘IRCTC Air’ which enables booking of air tickets for travel within India and abroad.
    ·        While existing IRCTC login credentials of passengers are accepted by the app, it also lets them book LTC flight tickets.
    ·        A maximum of nine passengers are allowed for booking on one PNR by paying Rs.10 as convenience fee.
    Delhi to pay social security pensions monthly:
    ·        The Delhi government has decided to disburse old age, physical disability, and widow pensions on a monthly basis starting July, instead of making quarterly payments.
    ·        The move is aimed at easing the financial problems faced by the beneficiaries in the city, reportedly comprising of 3.88 lakh old people, 1.6 lakh widows and 63,000 people with physical disabilities.
    PM Modi outlines RAPID, a five-point charter for tax administrators at the Rajasva Gyan Sangam:

    ·        Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined RAPID, a five-point charter for tax administrators to reform and to expand the net base of the direct tax.
    ·        He announced it during theinauguration of Rajasva Gyan Sangam in New Delhi.
    ·        The Prime Minister outlined the RAPID as

    D – Digitization.
    Union Ministry of AYUSH released Yog Geet for International Day of Yoga–2016:
    ·        Union Ministry of AYUSH released a Yog Geet (Song) in connection with the celebration of International Day of Yoga–2016.
    The details of the song are as under:
    ü The song is of 3 minutes and 15 seconds in Hindi language.
    ü The song is written and produced by Deeraj Saraswat.
    ü Gandhar TD Jadhav and Gatha Jadhav were given their voice.
    ü The Music of the song is composed by Sumanto Ray.
    Centre approves proposal for Greenfield Electronic Park in Odisha:

    ·        The Centre has approved a proposal of the Odisha government for the development of Greenfield Electronic Park spread over an area of 203 acres in Bhubaneswar.
    ·        With an investment of Rs. 205 crore, the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation which is developing the electronic park, will house around 100 units of an electronic manufacturing cluster with state-of-the-art infrastructure and common facilities.
    ·        The state government has formulated attractive investor-friendly policies such as Industrial Policy Resolution 2015 and ICT Policy 2014 to facilitate and incentivise investors in the electronic manufacturing sector.
    Government to bear full coaching cost for SC students:
    ·        Under a revised central sector scheme, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will now bear the entire expenditure incurred by SC and OBC students on coaching for competitive examinations.
    ·        Earlier, the government paid a maximum coaching fee of ₹20,000 per candidate.
    ·        The Ministry will also empanel reputed coaching institutes to provide quality coaching to the said students.
    Odisha announces cash incentives for districts:

    ·        Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced cash incentives for districts that successfully implement various government programmes.
    ·        The incentives include cash prizes up to Rs.1 crore for best performance in schemes like disbursement of pucca houses, skill development, and employment generation, among others.
    ·        This will promote a healthy competition among the districts, Patnaik said.
    Punjab 1st to provide free Hepatitis C treatment:
    ·        Punjab has become the first state in India to provide free treatment to confirmed cases of Hepatitis C.
    ·        Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal launched the ‘Mukh Mantri Punjab Hepatitis C Relief Fund’, with an initial contribution of ₹20 crore, for providing the free treatment. According to reports, around six lakh people require Hepatitis C treatment in Punjab.
    Andhra Pradesh to start Internet-based phone service:

    ·        Andhra Pradesh is perhaps the first State to have obtained a telecom licence and it can issue phone numbers starting with the ‘797’ series from August this year.
    ·        It indirectly got the opportunity to start an internet based telephone service ‘without requiring any further registration’ after it obtained permission from the Telecom Ministry for starting its own IPTV  Internet Protocol based Television network  as part of its Fibre Grid project.
    ·        The government can provide free telephone services within the region through internet which means you can also skype and have video calls.
    Tamilnadu government closes down 500 state run liquor outlets:

    ·        The Tamil Nadu Government closed down 500 state-run liquor outlets
    ·        After assuming the office recently for a second term, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa ordered reduction of working hours of all liquor outlets by two hours.
    Union Home Ministry notifies 10 coastal police stations:
    ·        Union Home Ministry notifies 10 coastal police stations.
    ·        The Union Home Ministry has notified official gazette notification for establishing 10 coastal police stations located along India’s coastline in 9 States and 4 UTs.
    ·        These police stations have been empowered to register and investigate crimes committed within the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Their establishment will end the ambiguity over territorial jurisdiction in the wake of Italian marines case.
    Railway Ministry launches two liberalised Policies:

    ·        The Union Railway Ministry has launched two policies related to Parcel Cargo Train Express and Parcel Leasing, launched by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu.
    ·        They are Liberalised Comprehensive Parcel Leasing Policy (CPLP) and Liberalised policy on Parcel Cargo Express Trains (PCET).
    ·        These policies were launched as part of 2016-17 Rail Budget announcements to make the policies related to Parcel Leasing and Parcel Cargo Express more liberalized and customer friendly.
    California becomes world’s sixth-largest economy:

    ·        California is now reportedly the sixth-largest economy in the world with its gross state product at $2.46 trillion, leapfrogging France, which dropped to seventh, with a GDP of $2.42 trillion.
    ·        The most populous US state is also ahead of India, which is in eighth place with a GDP of $2.09 trillion.
    ·        Notably, California is home to Hollywood and Silicon Valley
    Iran, US aerospace giant Boeing reach deal on purchase of 100 planes:
    ·        Iran and US aerospace giant Boeing have reached an agreement for the purchase of 100 aircraft to renew the country’s ageing fleet.
    ·        Head of Tehran’s civil aviation authority, Ali Abedzadehsaid, the country has 250 planes out of which 230 needs to be replaced.
    ·        Iran in January reached a memorandum of understanding with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus for the purchase of 118 planes.
    Canada’s parliament passes bill on medically assisted death for terminally ill people:

    ·        Canada’s parliament has passed a contentious bill to allow medically-assisted death for terminally ill people.
    ·        The law was put forward after the Supreme Court struck down a ban on doctors helping the incurably sick to die.
    ·        The move makes Canada one of the few countries where doctors can legally help sick people die.
    New York State Senate passes anti-Airbnb bill:
    ·        The New York State Senate on Friday passed a bill that would make it illegal to advertise rentals of less than 30 days for entire homes on Airbnb.
    ·        In the next step, New York State Governor will either sign or veto it.
    ·        If the bill becomes a law, people posting such rentals on Airbnb could be fined up to $7,500.
    Niue’s currency coins have cartoon characters:

    ·        Niue, an island country in the Pacific has coins displaying popular fiction characters on its currency, the Niue dollar.
    ·        The coins have a Disney series, featuring characters like Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Snow White, apart from other series like Star Wars, Pokemon, the Godfather and Doctor Who.
    ·        The country also earns royalty whenever a coin is purchased by collectors.
    SEBI eases norms for overseas fund managers:

    ·        Markets regulator SEBI has eased the norms for overseas fund managers to relocate to India, under which they need not fulfil the minimum investment requirement of ₹25 lakh.
    ·        Further, the requirement of such firms to report their overseas funds was removed.
    ·        The government had announced taxation incentives for overseas fund managers willing to relocate to India during the 2015-16 Budget.
    ‘Thithi’ wins two awards at Shanghai Film Fest:

    ·        The Kannada film ‘Thithi’ has won two awards for the Best Film and Best Script Writers at the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival.
    ·        The awards were part of the‘Asia New Talent Awards’where ‘Thithi’ was the only nomination from India. Thithi’s director Raam Reddy said, “The jury was from China, Japan and Korea and they unanimously loved this film.”
    Baahubali wins 5 awards at Filmfare South Awards:
    ·        ‘Baahubali’ won five awards including the Best Film at the 63rd Britannia Filmfare (South) Awards in the Telugu films category.
    ·        While Mahesh Babu won the Best Actor award for the Telugu film ‘Srimanthudu’, Mammootty won the award for the Malayalam film ‘Pathemari’.
    ·        Notably, these awards have been honouring professionals in the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada film industries since 1970.
    Kerala Tourism bags four awards at ‘FilmAT’ International film festival in Poland:

    ·        Kerala Tourism has won four awards at ‘FilmAT’ which is one of the biggest international film festivals dedicated to tourism, art and ecology in Poland.
    ·        ‘Responsible Tourism’ initiative started by Kerala Tourism  has won three awards under categories of the Best Promotional Social Campaign, Protection of Nature, and Eco-Food categories respectively.
    ·        The tourism board’s ad film ‘The Great Backwaters of Kerala’  has won the ‘Best Editing Award’.
    ·        The FilmAT festival is associated with the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals.
    Maharaja Express to be introduced in south India:

    ·        Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that luxury train Maharaja Express will be introduced in south Indian states from the monsoon season next year.
    ·        He made the announcement while laying the foundation stone for new railway line crossing in Maharashtra’s Kharepatan via video conferencing.
    ·        Notably, Maharaja Express has won the world’s best luxury train awards for four consecutive years.
    Microsoft to design app for HRD Ministry’s SWAYAM platform:

    ·        The technology giant Microsoft is going to design mobile application for Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry’s SWAYAM platform.
    ·        Under this platform ministry is going to launch 2000 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) for over three crore students in the year 2016.
    ·        Microsoft will be deploying the team of professionals to set up the state of the art mobile application.
    ·        In this regard, All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has signed a deal of 38 Crore rupees with Microsoft. Microsoft will be running the app for three years and later AICTE will take over it.
    ·        SWAYAM:  It stands for Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds.
    SpaceX successfully launches two commercial satellites:
    ·        US based private space transport service company SpaceX successfully launched two commercial satellites viz. EUTELSAT 117 West B and ABS-2A.
    ·        They were launched using SpaceX’s reusable Falcon 9 rocket which had lifted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, US.
    ·        This mission was SpaceX’s second dual-satellite launch.
    Argentina, Chile enter semi-finals of Copa America:

    ·        In Football, Argentina and Chile today stormed into the semi-finals of Copa America.
    ·        In the other quarterfinal, Chile thrashed Mexico, 7-0.
    ·        In the first semi-final, hosts United States will take on Argentina on Wednesday. The second semi-final will be played on Thursday between Colombia and Chile. The Final is slated for the 27th of this month.
