7-member panel formed to end Nepal parliament deadlock
·        A seven-member panel was formed by Nepal’s ruling and opposition parties to find ways to end an ongoing logjam in parliament over the mismanagement of post-quake reconstruction and the release of NRs 200,000 in financial aid to the survivors.
·        The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has been disrupting House proceedings for the past a few days demanding immediate release of the financial package to the victims of last year’s devastating quake that killed nearly 9,000 people.
Home Ministry team to visit valley to probe attack on CRPF
·        A three member team of the Home Ministry is touring the Valley to probe the attack on CRPF jawans in Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir.
·        The team would try to go into security related lapses, which led to the death of 8 CRPF jawans and causing injury to 21 Jawans.
Maharashtra govt announces housing concessions for EWS
·        Maharashtra government today decided to offer various concessions to the economically weaker sections (EWS) for projects under its ambitious “housing for all” scheme.
·        “Land for such affordable housing projects will be allotted to the government housing agencies at nominal rates as per this cabinet decision,” said an official from the Chief Minister’s Office.
·        He said a 50 per cent concession will be given in the surveyor and development cost while stamp duty is being fixed at Rs 1,000 for houses meant for the EWS.
Agriculture Minister launches app for Bihar farmers
·        Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today released an app, Crop Manager for Rice-based Systems (CMRS), for better crop and nutrient management for Bihar farmers.
·        CMRS provides irrigated and rainfed farmers with rice-based cropping systems in Bihar with a crop and nutrient management guideline customised to the needs of an individual farmer, an official statement said.
·        Singh released the app in a programme organised at ICAR-RCER in Patna, it added.
·        The app is designed for use by extension workers, crop advisers, input providers and providers of services who interview a farmer using a personal computer, smartphone, or tablet, it added.
Centre to invest Rs 1,000 cr for 750-bedded AIIMS in Assam
·        The Centre will invest around Rs 1,000 crore to set up a 750-bedded All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Assam, the land for which was handed over by the state government.
·        The AIIMS, to be set up in Kamrup district, will house 18 super-speciality departments.
·        Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday handed over to Panda more than 571 acres of government land at Changsari area of Kamrup district.
Italy and Netherlands to share Security Council seat in a ‘show of unity’
·        In a boost to battered European unity, Italy and the Netherlands agreed to share the two-year Security Council term for a non-permanent West European seatTuesday after five rounds of balloting failed to break a deadlock in the General Assembly.
·        When the fifth round leveled out the Netherlands’ slight lead to an even 95-95 split, the two countries agreed to split the term, with Italy taking the first turn next year.
Ethiopia, Bolivia, Sweden elected non-permanent UNSC members
·        The UN General Assembly today elected Ethiopia, Bolivia and Sweden as non-permanent members of the Security Council for a two-year period beginning in January, 2017.
·        The 193-member UN body conducted the elections for five non-permanent seats, which included one seat for the African Group, one seat for the Group of Asia and the Pacific small island developing states, one seat for the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States, and two seats for the Western European and Others Group.
·        The two-year terms of the new members will begin January 1 next year and run through December 31, 2018. Ethiopia got 185 votes, while Bolivia got 183 and Sweden garnered 134 votes.
Asia’s cleanest village is in Meghalaya
·       The cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong, is situated in India’s north-eastern state of Meghalaya.
·       The village having over 600 inhabitants was declared the cleanest in Asia in 2003 by ‘Discover India’ magazine.
·       Mawlynnong, which has over 95 households with agriculture being its population’s chief occupation, also holds a 100% literacy rate.
Sweden inaugurates world’s first electric road
·        Sweden inaugurated a test stretch of an electric road, making it one of the first countries in the world to conduct tests with electric power for heavy transports on public roads.
·        The test will be conducted on parts of road E16, and involves a current collector on the roof of the truck cab feeding the current down to a hybrid electric motor in the truck, according to a press release from the country’s transport administration Trafikverket, Xinhua reported.
US, Canada, Mexico to commit 50% clean energy by 2025

·       The United States, Canada, and Mexico will this week reportedly pledge that they will produce 50% of their power from hydropower, wind, solar and nuclear plants by 2025.
·       Leaders of the three countries will commit to this goal during a summit between them this week. The nations will also reportedly agree on deals with regard to transmitting of clean energy.
SBI to raise $1.5 billion by issuing bonds

·        Country’s largest lender SBI today said it will raise long-term capital of up to USD 1.5 billion (over Rs 10,000 crore) by issuing bonds in US dollar or other convertible currency.
·        SBI said in a BSE filing that the decision is the outcome of the executive committee meeting of the Board today.
·        The Executive Committee of the Central Board in its meeting held on June 29, 2016, has approved “to raise long term funds up to $1,500 million in single/multiple tranches”, SBI said in the filing.
United Bank remains cautious on corporate lending, aims at 30% retail loan growth this fiscal
·        Public sector lender United Bank of India is aiming to grow its retail credit portfolio by 30% for this fiscal as it remains cautions on lending to corporate sector. The bank is eyeing a 10-12% business growth in this financial year.
·        At present corporate loan constitutes around 35-40% of the bank’s total loan portfolio. The lender aims to increase retail segment’s share in its lending portfolio. In the retail segment, the bank will focus on housing, education and vehicle loans.
·        Total business of the bank stood at Rs. 187813 crore as on March 31, 2016, registering a modest growth of 5.58%. P Srinivas, managing director and CEO, said the lender was aiming at 10-12% business growth this fiscal.
Gross NPAs rise to 7.6% in 2015-16: RBI

·       The gross non-performing assets (NPAs) ratio of public-sector banks rose to 7.6% from 5.1% between September 2015 and March 2016, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in its bi-annual Financial Stability Report.
·       The report, released on Tuesday, estimates that gross NPAs may increase further to 9.3% by March 2017 under a “severe stress scenario”.
Amazon launches two data centres in India
·        Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world’s biggest provider of cloud computing services, launched data centres in India, taking on rivals Microsoft, IBM and NTT in a country that is witnessing rapid adoption of cloud computing both by enterprises and startups.
·        AWS CEO Andy Jassy, who was in Mumbai for the launch, said the company had built a base of 75,000 active customers (those who use the service at least once a month) even without a data centre in India and he expected the number to rise significantly with the launch.
Paytm ties up with Suzuki Motorcycle for easy booking of two-wheeler models

·        India’s largest mobile payment and commerce platform Paytm announced its strategic partnership with Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. to offer its customers the largest assortment of bike and scooter models across all transactional platforms in India.
·        With over 400+ Suzuki dealers on-board, the Paytm marketplace will now enable booking of all Suzuki two-wheeler models on its platform across India.
·        As part of the association, Suzuki will also have a brand store on Paytm for higher consumer engagement guaranteeing an enhanced consumer experience.
India up 19 ranks in World Bank logistics report
·        In the latest World Bank ranking of the global logistics performance, India is now ranked 35th as against the 54th spot it occupied in the previous 2014 report.
·        India ranked ahead of other economies like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Germany topped the rankings, and was followed by Luxembourg and Sweden​, while Syria ranked lowest.
Quality analysis: CIMFR, power developers, coal miners ink MoU
·        Stat-run coal miners and power developers signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) for the quality analysis of coal supplied to coal-based generating companies.
·        As reported by FE earlier, this mechanism could bring down power cost by as much in R1.5 per unit.
·        CIMFR, based in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, and a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), will test the grade of coal at both the loading and unloading points of a power station.
EPFO aims to cover all workers under provident fund, pension by 2030

·        EPFO aims to cover all the workers in the country under provident fund (PF), pension and life insurance by 2030, the retirement fund body said in its vision document.
·        The vision document prepared by EPFO mentions objectives such as “universal social security coverage on mandatory basis by way of provident fund, pension and life insurance for all workers of the country”, the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) said in a statement.
·        The vision also talks about online services for all EPFO benefits with state-of-the-art technology and best service delivery practices.
Montella named as new AC Milan manager

·        AC Milan have appointed former Fiorentina and Sampdoria boss Vincenzo Montella as their new manager on a two-year contract.
·        The 42-year-old will replace Cristian Brocchi, who took charge on an interim basis after Sinisa Mihajlovic was sacked in April.
2 women appointed as Shariah High Court judges in Malaysia
·        Two women have been appointed asjudges of Malaysia’s Islamic Shariah High Court for the first time in the history of the judiciary of the Muslim-majority country.
·        Noor Huda Roslan, 40, and Nenney Shuhaidah Shamsuddin, 41, received their official letters of appointment from Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah during a ceremony at the Istana Bukit Kayangan.
U C Maheshwari sworn-in as new deputy Lokayukta of Madhya Pradesh

·        U C Maheshwari was today sworn-in as deputy Lokayukta of Madhya Pradesh, a day after he resigned as a judge of the state High Court.
·        State Lokayukta Justice P P Naolekar administered the oath of office to 60-year-old Maheshwari in a ceremony here.
·        The post of the deputy Lokayukta had been lying vacant for the past two years following retirement of Chandresh Bhushan, a former MP High Court judge.
PM Narendra Modi releases book titled The Birds of Banni Grassland

·        Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a book titled “The Birds of Banni Grassland” in New Delhi.
·        The book was presented to the Prime Minister by the scientists of Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology (GUIDE).
·        The Birds of Banni Grassland is book based on environment and consists of a compilation of the research work, relating to more than 250 species of birds found in the Banni area of Kutch, Gujarat.
Viswanathan Anand honoured with ‘Honoris Causa’ Doctor of Science degree

·       Five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand was conferred the “Honoris Causa” Doctor of Science by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) during its 49th convocation ceremony in Kanpur on Tuesday.
·       The 46-year-old Anand was bestowed with the degree by NITI aayog chairman Arvind Panagariya in Kanpur.
·       While receiving the degree, Anand remembered the day when he was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1985 and shared that this dress code in Kanpur brought back memories of that day at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Four Indian-Americans honoured with Great Immigrants Award
·        Indian-origin Google CEO Sunder Pichai and three other Indian-Americans are among the 42 US nationals honoured with this years prestigious “Great Immigrants: The Pride of America” award.
·        The other three Indian-Americans are Hari Sreenivasan, anchor and senior correspondent, PBS NewsHour, Vikram Malhotra Chairman of the Americas, McKinsey& Company and Bharati Mukherjee National Book Critics Circle Award-winning author.
Google brings Earth into better focus

·        Google’s free online mapping service is bringing the world into better focus with an updated version of Earth that takes advantage of photos from a US Landsat 8 satellite.
·        The Internet giant introduced a “cloud-free mosaic” of this planet three years ago at Google Earth, and on June 27 began rolling out a new version that uses new techniques to process sharper images gathered by the satellite sent into orbit in 2013, as part of a collaboration between NASA and the US Geological Survey.
CarDekho.com launches battery research portal ‘BatteryDekho’
·        CarDekho.com, India’s largest auto portal announced launch of automobile battery research and discovery portal, BatteryDekho.com to build a comprehensive ecosystem for vehicle ownership and making the battery discovery, research and selection process much more convenient for the Indian consumer.
·        The development will allow CarDekho.com users to search and compare specification and pricing of batteries. The site has more than 250 batteries of top brands such as Amaron, Exide, SF Sonic, Tata Green and Base.
Most powerful rocket by NASA set for journey to Mars

·        Inching closer to send world’s most powerful rocket to Mars, US space agency NASA successfully fire-tested a booster for the Space Launch System (SLS) at Orbital ATK’s test facilities in Promontory, Utah.
·        This was the last full-scale test for the booster before SLS is ready in 2018 for the first uncrewed test flight with NASA’s Orion spacecraft, marking a key milestone on the agency’s Journey to Red Planet.
Argentina women win record seventh Champions Trophy title

·        The Argentina women’s team has claimed a record seventh Champions Trophy title with a 2-1 win over reigning World and Olympic champions, The Netherlands, in the final at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.
·        First quarter goals from Martina Cavallero and Noel Barrionuevo on Sunday gave Las Leonas a 2-0 lead to stun the top-ranked Dutch, who were missing team captain and talisman Maartje Paumen through injury.
·        The Netherlands hit back with a high quality penalty corner flick from Eva de Goede just after half time, but Argentina held on to win their third successive Champions Trophy title.
Indian men’s hockey team jumps to fifth place in FIH (International Hockey Federation) rankings
·        Following their silver medal winning performance at the Champions Trophy in London, the Indian men’s hockey team jumped two places to fifth spot in the latest rankings, issued by the FIH.
·        World Cup holders and Champions Trophy winners Australia remained at the top of the men’s rankings while Netherlands, the Olympic and World Champions held on to top spot in the women’s rankings.

·        Indore is set to host its first-ever cricket Test during India’s home series againstNew Zealand in September-October but a day-night encounter is not part of the roster released by the BCCI, which had earlier revealed plans to have a game with the pink ball.

Scotty Moore, Elvis Presley’s first guitarist, dies at 84

·        Scotty Moore, the pioneering rock guitarist whose sharp, graceful style helped Elvis Presley shape his revolutionary sound and inspired a generation of musicians that included Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and Bruce Springsteen, died Tuesday.He was 84.

·        Moore died at his home in Nashville, said biographer and friend James L. Dickerson, who confirmed the death through a family friend.
