    ·       30 May is celebrated as the Hindi Journalism Day in India’s journalism every year.
    ·       On 30 May 1826, the first Hindi newspaper of India called UdantMartand was edited and published. With this, the Hindi Journalism completed its 187 years in India.
    ·       First Hindi newspaper was initiated by JugalKishorShukla. Hindi daily publishing took place in Braj and Khari languages.
    ·       JugalKishorShukla helped in creating journalism as the fourth pillar of the Indian democracy.
    Himachal granted proposals worth Rs.12k cr in 3yrs
    ·       The Himachal Pradesh single window clearance and monitoring authority has approved 247 proposals during the past three years, drawing an investment of Rs.12,572 crore and providing employment to 24,760 people, an official said.
    ·       Meanwhile, the state government has reportedly introduced a common application form for seeking approval of setting up industries in the state to fast-track​ the process.
    J&K only Indian state to have a state flag
    ·       Jammu and Kashmir is the only Indian state to have a state flag and its own constitution.
    ·       The state enjoys a special status under the Indian Constitution, owing to a binding UNSC resolution.
    ·       Adopted in 1952, the plough on the flag represents agriculture, while the three vertical lines represent the three major regions – Jammu, the Kashmir valley and Ladakh.
    Vice President Hamid Ansari to leave on a 5-day visit to Morocco and Tunisia
    ·       Vice President Hamid Ansari will undertake a five-day visit to Morocco and Tunisia from tomorrow as part of efforts to build on diplomatic gains from the India-Africa summit held in October last year.
    ·       The Vice President will discuss with leaders in the two North African countries issues of terrorism, UN Security Council expansion and investments in private sector, as well as ways to strengthen outreach to Africa and regional matters.
    Section 144 Imposed in 8 Districts of Haryana As Jats Threaten To Relaunch Quota Agitation
    ·       Section 144 states “there would be a complete ban on the gathering of five or more than five people at any place and carrying sticks, axe, sword, knife or any other sharp-edged weapons.”
    ·       According to reports, these order would remain effective for 60 days from May 28 to July 27.
    ·       Haryana Police sources said that police personnel and para-military forces were being stationed in sensitive districts like Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Jind and Fatehabad to ensure law and order.
    Sushma launches PMO’s website in 6 languages
    ·       External Affair Minister SushmaSwaraj has launched the official website of PM NarendraModi’s Office in six regional languages including Gujarati, Marathi and Bengali.
    ·       The PMO website was earlier available only in English and Hindi. “These sites will further strengthen my interaction with you all”, tweeted Modi, who also asked for feedback regarding​ the websites.
    Swiss mark the opening of the world’s longest and deepest rail tunnel
    ·       Switzerland is celebrating 20 years of engineering Marvel work, the debut of the world’s longest and deepest rail tunnel.
    ·       The new tunnel through the Alps is 35.5 miles long, more than two miles of the current record-holder, Japan’s Seikan Tunnel. Some of the points are located below the record of 1.4 kilometers of the mountain peak.
    ·       The tunnel carries 325 passenger and freight trains per day, each trip taking 20 minutes at a speed of up to 150 mph. The aim is to reduce the heavy car traffic, which creates pollution.
    Iranians not to attend hajj in Saudi Arabia
    ·       Iran said its pilgrims would not attend the annual hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, as the latter failed to guarantee its pilgrims’ safety.
    ·       Saudi Arabia accused Iran of stopping​ Iranians from performing the religious duty.
    ·       Saudi Arabia had earlier broken diplomatic ties with Iran after its Tehran embassy was stormed over the hanging of a prominent Shi’ite cleric.
    China to spend $725 bn on rural connectivity
    ·       China will spend $725 billion on major transport projects to connect remote and impoverished areas in the country with the regional hubs through road and rail, the country’s National Development and Reform Commission said.
    ·       Over 300 projects have reportedly been laid out under the initiative. This is part of China’s three-year plan to eradicate poverty by 2020.
    Swiss town votes to pay $292k to avoid refugees
    ·       A Swiss village has voted to pay a fine of £200,000 (about $292,440) instead of taking in ten refugees.
    ·       There are about 300 millionaires living in Oberwil-Lieli, which has a population of about 2,200.
    ·       A resident of the village said, “We have worked hard all our lives and have a lovely village that we do not want it spoiled.”
    SBI now also has the largest PoS network in India
    ·       State Bank of India (SBI)’s point of sales terminal (PoS) network is now the largest in the country after it over took its private sector rivals in February.
    ·       It plans to add other 1 lakh PoS terminals in the current fiscal year ending March 2017.
    ·       As of April 30, the state owned lender had a PoS network of 3,07,000, 26% of which were in the semi urban and rural areas, the bank said in a press release.
    National Payments Corporation of India to launch credit card by year-end
    ·       The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which controls 35 per cent of the debit card market in terms of volumes, expects to launch its much-delayed credit before the year-end, a top official of the Reserve Bank-promoted institute has said.
    ·       He further said that had they launched the credit card earlier on the Euronet switching system, it would have been an inconvenience for customers as the corporation would anyways have had to align with the new FIS switch.
    Yes Bank ties up with online payment solutions startup Click&pay
    ·       Private sector lender Yes Bank, has partnered with Click&pay, T-Hub’s portfolio company and a mobile-based payment solutions enterprise, to facilitate cashless, secure and flexible transactions for customers.
    ·       Yes Bank sponsored mobile wallets and employ Yes Bank’s immediate payments service (IMPS) payments platform which will help Click&pay to process instant proximity transactions with merchants and person to person.
    ·       In April 2016, Yes Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with T-Hub, a unique public/private partnership between the government of Telangana, three of India’s premier academic institutes (IIIT-H, ISB& NALSAR) and key private sector leaders.
    ‘GDP can rise by $1tn over 100% internet access’
    ·       India’s GDP could be increased by $1 trillion by 2020 if internet access is ensured to all Indians, according to a Facebook-commissioned report.
    ·       The analysis considered 500 MB data plans, classifying them as affordable if each cost less than 5% of a person’s monthly income.
    ·       India’s GDP crossed $2 trillion for the first time in 2014, World Bank data showed.
    Hyderabad Angels invests Rs 15 crore in 12 start-ups in 2015-16
    ·       Hyderabad Angels (HA), invested around Rs 15 crore in a dozen start-ups in 2015-16.HA expects to add another 12 companies to its existing portfolio during the current year.
    ·       It says that data, analytics, IOT, fintech, edutech, healthtech, logitech, enterprise SaaS etc., are few of the sectors that will continue to attract investments from HA in the current startup market scenario, said P S Sreekanth, Investment Director Hyderabad Angles(HA).
    Freshdesk opens new office in Berlin
    ·       Cloud-based customer support software startup Freshdesk has opened a new regional office in Berlin, Germany.
    ·       The Berlin office will be led by Arun Mani, Managing Director in Continental Europe.
    ·       Founded in 2010 by GirishMathrubootham and Shan Krishnasamy, the startup’s investors include Accel Partners, Google Capital and Tiger Global among others.
    Coal India increases coal prices by 6.29%
    ·       State-owned Coal India (CIL) announced a 6.29% hike in coal prices, applicable to all its subsidiaries.
    ·       Due to the revision, CIL is expected to earn an additional revenue of ₹3,234 crore between May 30 to March 31 in 2016-17, it said.
    ·       The current coal price, on an average, is ₹1,193 per tonne, according to a CIL official.
    Saudi best emerging market for deals: Citigroup
    ·       According to Citigroup, Saudi Arabia’s planned privatisations, including a share sale in the world’s biggest oil company, represents the biggest investment banking opportunity in emerging markets.
    ·       The country is seeking to reduce its dependency on oil, and is planning an IPO of Saudi Arabian Oil Co. for a $2 trillion valuation, to create a sovereign wealth fund.
    Government to sell off 14 ITDC hotels
    ·       Fourteen out of 16 perennially loss-making hotels owned by state-run ITDC will be sold off and the process to privatize them has already started, Union tourism and culture minister Mahesh Sharma said.
    ·       The minister said the finance ministry is taking forward the disinvestment plan to totally offload government’s stakes in all the ITDC-run hotels except the Ashoka and Samrat hotels in the national capital.

    ·       Domain registration company, Uniregistry has launched the “.game” domain extension for registrations.
    ·       It is aimed at the gaming community and is available on various domain registration companies worldwide.
    ·       Many gaming brands have registered some names including ‘Warcraft.game’, ‘CallofDuty.game’ and ‘Xbox.game’. However, ‘Mario.game’ is still available for registration on GoDaddy at Rs.1,15,599.

    ·       Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar launched his clothing brand ‘True Blue’ with actor RiteishDeshmukh as a showstopper for the fashion event. “I… (wanted to) give them (people) the opportunity to wear something which is of my taste, what I like,” said Sachin.
    ·       The brand, in collaboration with ‘Arvind Fashion Brands’, has opened its flagship store in Mumbai.
    UIDAI SBI promotes eight CGMs to DMD rank ahead of merger with associate banks
    ·       State Bank of India group has elevated eight CGMs to the rank of deputy managing director ahead of the proposed merger of its five associate banks with itself.
    ·       The eight new candidates include two women and one from associate bank were selected for the DMD rank. In all 17 candidates that appeared for the interview, three of them are from associate banks.
    Ashrita Furman holds most Guinness World Records
    ·       Ashrita Furman, from the US, holds the Guinness World Record for Most Guinness World Records titles held. Furman, 61, has set over 500 official Guinness Records since 1979.
    ·       The records held by him include ‘Most Number of Knives Caught in one Minute’, ‘Catching Most grapes in Mouth in one minute’ and ‘Catching Most Ping-pong Balls with Chopsticks in one minute’.
    World’s fastest wearable circuits created
    ·       Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison claim to have developed the world’s fastest stretchable and wearable integrated circuits which contain two small intertwining power transmission lines in repeating S-curves.
    ·       The 25-micrometre thick circuits operate at 40 gigahertz and features metal blocks that act as shields from any interference while also providing flexibility.
    New tech captures brain’s activity in a snapshot
    ·   Rockefeller University researchers have developed a technique that captures a detailed snapshot of the activities in a brain.
    ·       Tested successfully on the brain of a mouse, the method takes a picture of all the active neurons in the brain at a specific time.
    ·       Researchers said that the technique can help in tracking any biological change or spread of a drug.
    China to launch world’s 1st quantum satellite

    ·       According to a scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China will launch the world’s first quantum communication satellite in July, aimed at improving the security of data transmission.
    ·       The satellite, which took five years to develop, will use quantum photons, which cannot be separated or duplicated, making the communication immune to wiretapping or interceptions.
    NASA successfully deploys BEAM, first inflatable room attached to International Space Station
    ·       The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has successfully deployed the first experimental inflatable room attached to the International Space Station (ISS).
    ·       The experimental inflatable room dubbed as BEAM (Bigelow Expandable Activity Module) was deployed after it was successfully expanded and pressurized.
    ManoharParrikar inaugurates submarine assembly workshop in Mazgaon

    ·       Defence minister ManoharParrikar, who was at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) on Saturday to inaugurate a submarine assembly workshop, said the level of indigenisation in submarine construction should be much higher than the present.
    ·       The newly built Submarine Marine Assembly Workshop is a pre-engineered building structure to handle construction of multiple submarines simultaneously. Built at a cost of Rs153 crore, it will make it possible to assemble five submarines in the workshop at the same time.

    ·       Wimbledon, US Open, and Australian Open women’s doubles championship pair of SaniaMirza and Martina Hingis were knocked out in the third round of the 2016 French Open.

    Sunrisers Hyderabad win their maiden IPL title
    ·       Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 runs to clinch the IPL title for the first time.
    ·       Batting first, the Sunrisers posted 208/7, courtesy skipper David Warner’s 69(38) and Ben Cutting’s brisk 39(15).

    ·       Discus thrower SeemaPunia has qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics scheduled to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August 2016.
    ·       She is the 19th Indian track and field athlete to qualify for Rio Olympics. Seema was able to qualify after throwing discus at 62.62 meters at the Pat Young’s Throwers Classic 2016 event held at Salinas (California) in the United States.

    Actor Suresh Chatwal passes away in Mumbai

    ·       Actor Suresh Chatwal, known for his role as the commissioner in the Hindi television series ‘FIR’, passed away on Saturday in Mumbai.
    ·       His son YamanChatwal said that Suresh succumbed to his ‘ongoing illness’. Chatwal, who made his debut with the 1969 film ‘RakhiRakhi’, worked in several Bollywood films including ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘MunnaBhai MBBS’ and ‘Om Shanti Om’.
