Centre releases advance grant-in-aid of Rs.51.30 crore to Arunachal Pradesh

The Centre has released advance grant-in-aid of Rs 51.30 crore to Arunachal Pradesh for rescue and relief operations on account of flash floods.
Due to heavy rains and floods in North East, department of expenditure in the Ministry of Finance has released Rs 51.30 crore as grant-in-aid to Arunachal Pradesh on the basis of recommendation of the 14th Finance Commission for relief necessitated by natural calamities to the state.

Raipur Airport Ranked First in Customer Satisfaction Index Survey

Raipur’s Swami Vivekananda Airport was once again ranked first in Customer Satisfaction among 49 airports in the country.
Raipur Airport achieved 4.84 score on a five point scale index in the latest CSI survey conducted by an independent agency for the period of January-June 2017, followed by Udaipur, Amritsar and Dehradun airports which have scored 4.75, 4.74 and 4.73 respectively.
India ranks 116 out of 157 nations on SDG index

India is ranked 116 out of 157 nations on a global index that assesses the performance of countries towards achieving the ambitious sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The SDG Index and Dashboards Report produced by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Bertelsmann Stiftung shows that world leaders need to strengthen their joint efforts to realise the 17 global goals.
Railways launches India’s first solar-powered DEMU train

Indian Railways has launched its first 1,600 HHP solar diesel multiple unit (DEMU) train. The train has a total of 16 solar panels of 300 watts in each coach. The energy generated by these panels will be stored in batteries
The move is expected to save Rs 2 lakh worth of diesel per coach, per annum. It will help in reducing carbon dioxide of almost nine tonnes per coach, per annum. It is also expected to save nearly Rs 672 crore per annum.
Over 3,300 pilgrims leave for Amarnath Yatra

A fresh batch of over 3,300 pilgrims on Saturday left here for the Kashmir Valley to perform the annual Amarnath Yatra, “A total of 3,398 yatris left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas at 3.30 a.m. in an escorted convoy of 132 vehicles,” On the 16th day of the yatra, nearly 10,000 pilgrims paid obeisance inside the holy Himalayan cave situated at 3,888 metres above the sea-level.Around two lakh pilgrims have performed the yatra since it began on June 29
Russia Launches 73 satellites in one go, second most ever

Russian space agency Roscosmos successfully launched ‘Kanopus-V-IK’ Earth-imaging satellite and 72 microsatellites into orbit on a single rocket. This comes after ISRO launched a world record 104 satellites at once earlier this year, breaking Russia’s previous record of 37 satellites. The microsatellites include 62 CubeSats developed by US and others made by Japan, Germany, and Canada
US House passes bill on defence co-operation with India

The United States House of Representatives on Friday passed a defence policy Bill worth $621.5 billion (around Rs 41,31,000 crore), which proposes boosting cooperation with India in the sector. The National Defense Authorisation Act, 2018, was passed with 344 to 81 vote.

Yes Bank gets $150 mn from OPIC to fund SME lending

Yes Bank has received $ 150 million funding from the US government and Wells Fargo to increase lending to support women entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises in India.
OPIC will provide $ 75 million in financing and up to $ 75 million in syndicated financing jointly arranged by Wells Fargo Bank to Yes Bank.
EU, India set up fund for investments

European Union (EU) and India on Friday announced the establishment of an Investment Facilitation Mechanism (IFM) for EU investments in India.
“The mechanism will allow for a close coordination between the European Union and the Government of India with an aim to promote and facilitate EU investment in India,”

UNICEF appointed Indian-origin Canadian YouTube star Lilly Singh as its newest Global Goodwill Ambassador.
Lilly was in the capital to support UNICEF’s Youth4Change initiative, a programme for youth that brings them together to support their peers and communities in taking action on issues such as health, hygiene, child labour and gender equality

Sundar Singh wins gold at World Para Athletics Championships


India’s Sundar Singh Gurjar claimed gold medal in men’s javelin throw event at the World Para Athletic Championships taking place in London. He attempted his personal best, an effort of 60.36m in the men’s javelin throw F46, which was enough for him to take the top spot and open India’s medal tally.
