JIGYASA, a student- scientist connect program was jointly launched by CSIR& KVS in New Delhi
Jigyasa, a student- scientist connect program was officially launched in New Delhi recently. Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has joined hands with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to implement this program. MoU signing ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Science& Technology and Shri Prakash Javadekar, Minister of HRD. The focus is on connecting school students and scientists so as to extend student’s classroom learning with that of a very well planned research laboratory based learning. “JIGYASA” is one of the major initiative taken up by CSIR at the national level, during its Platinum Jubilee Celebration Year.

Twelfth G20 Summit held in Hamburg, Germany

Japan’s Tokio Marine raises stake in JV to 49%
Japan’s Tokio Marine Asia raised its stake in a 17-year old general insurance joint venture with India’s fertilizer co-operative IFFCO from 26% to 49% at a cost of 2,530 crore rupees, in a transaction approved by the IFFCO board.

Centre has launched an app – GST Rates Finder to verify the accurate tax rate on commodity and services under the GST
Centre has launched an app – GST Rates Finder to verify the accurate tax rate on commodity and services under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley launched the app in New Delhi. Through this app, user can determine GST rate by entering the name of the commodity or service. The search result will list all the Goods and Services containing the name which was typed in the search box. A taxpayer can search for applicable CGST, SGST, UTGST rate and Compensation Cess on a supply. This mobile app can be downloaded on any smartphone and can work in offline mode, once downloaded.

RBI allows NBFCs to sell and market the new pension scheme
The Reserve Bank of India has allowed systematically important non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) to sell and market the new pension scheme (NPS). NBFCs with asset size of Rs500 crore and above that have made a net profit in the preceding financial year be permitted to sell NPS to their clients after registration with the pension regulator.

India has slipped by one spot to become the fourth-largest foreign investor into the UK, according to the official figures released here today. The US remains on the top, investing in 577 projects in the UK, with China (including Hong Kong) remaining in second place with 160 projects. India set up 127 new projects in Britain last year and safeguarded 7,645 existing jobs as a result and created 3,999 new jobs in 2016-17.India shares the fourth spot with Australia and New Zealand, which also set up 127 projects collectively.

Oracle picks Bengaluru for its first digital hub in Asia-Pacific
American tech giant Oracle has said it is opening its first digital hub in Asia Pacific, which will be based in Bengaluru. The company, with annual revenue of more than $37 billion, said the hub would provide cloud computing technology and resources to small and medium businesses to empower them in their digital transformation.

Saima Wazed Hossain appointed WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Autism in South Asia
Saima Wazed Hossain, a globally renowned champion for the cause of autism spectrum disorder has been appointed as the WHO’s goodwill ambassador for autism in the world body’s Southeast Asia region. Her appointment is for a period of two years.
