Solution:

1). Illiterate population is 35% of 60 lakhs = 21 lakhs
∴ Number of female illiterate = (3 / 7) × 21 = 9 lakhs
Answer: c)

2). Let total population is x.
∴ Total literate = 60% of x = (3x / 5)
Literate male = ([(3x / 5) × 8] / 15) = (24x / 75)
∴ (24x / 75) = 640000
∴ x = [(640000 × 75) / 24] = 20 lakhs
Illiterate population = 40% of 20 lkah = 8 lakh
Answer: b)

3). Data insufficient
Answer: e)

4). Let the population of City E = x
Illiterate female = (x / 5) × (5 / 8) = 1.25
 => (x / 8) = 1.25
∴ x = 10
Let the population of City F = y
Literate population = 50% of y = (y / 2)
Iiterate population of male = [(y / 2) × (1 / 5) × 3] = (3y / 10) = 1.2
y = [(1.2 × 10) / 3] = 4 lakhs
Ratio = (10 / 4) = (5 / 2) = 5 : 2
Answer: b)

5). Illiterate population of City D = 35% of 10 lakhs
= 3.5 lakhs
Illiterate population of City E = 20% of 10 lakhs = 2 lakhs
∴ % difference = [(3.5 – 2) / 2] × 100 = 75%
Answer: c)

6). Total marks obtained by Nilesh = 80 + 90 + 30 + 108 + 68 + 39 = 415
Answer: b)

7). Marks obtained by Arvind in Science and Economics = 135 + 60 = 195
 Marks obtained by Pramod in Science and Economics = 120 + 48 = 168
Reqd % = [(195 – 168) / 168 ] × 100 ≈ 16%
Answer: a)

8). Only Arvind and Ankit have got 65% or more marks in each subject.
Answer: b)

9). Average marks obtained by all the students in Eng
= {[120 × (75 + 95 + 85 + 70 + 65 + 90)] / (6 × 100)} = 96
Answer: d)

10). Average % of marks = [(88 + 64 + 80 + 48 + 84 + 40) / 6] = (404 / 6) = 67.33%
Answer: c)
