Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana to cover Child Cancer Treatment

  • The government has said that treatment of childhood cancer will be covered under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. The scheme will provide health insurance cover of five lakh rupees to poor families. BPL and lower-middle-class families will benefit from it.

India launches new digital bridge with Africa

  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swarajgestures at a function before signing of an agreement for the implementation of e-VidyaBharati and e-AarogyaBharati (e-VBAB) Network Project, in New Delhi.
  • “This project, called the e-VidyaBharati and e-ArogyaBharati Network Project, will serve as yet another bridge a digital bridge between our countries, shrinking the distance between India and Africa even more,” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said at the signing ceremony.

India is to overtake China in farmed shrimp production in FY 2019-20

  • Ravi Kumar Yellanki, president, Society of Aquaculture Professionals, said that India is set to gain the top slot in farmed shrimp production by overtaking China in 2019-20. The 7 lakh tonnes of shrimp production target was the target for the year 2018 and India might end up producing 6.5 lakh tonnes, which equals China’s production.

Andhra Pradesh announces Rs 2 cut in VAT on petrol, diesel

Marbat festival celebrated with great fervour in Nagpur 

  • Thousands of people thronged the streets of Maharashtra’s Nagpurcity to celebrate the Marbat festival. As per the tradition, the devotees took out a procession carrying effigies that represent evil forces. Jammu and Kashmir becomes 3rd State to adopt RADMS software

  • The Road Accident Data Management System (RADMS) software is a geographical information system (GIS) solution for identification of black spots, wrong driving practices, overloading issues, driver issues and other factors causing or related to road accidents. In 2015, the ‘Supreme Court committee on road safety’ had mandated all states to use RADMS.

Goa launches helpline for women in distress

  • Goa government’s Women and Child Development Ministry launched a universalhelpline service for women in distress in the coastal state. The service which can be accessed by dialing 181 will be operated by GVK-EMRI, a private corporate entity in association with the state Women and Child Development Department.

ICICI Bank launches overdraft facility for MSMEs based on GST returns 

  • Micro, small and medium enterpriseswill now be able to get quick overdraft of up to Rs 1 crore for working capital requirements, based on their goods and services tax (GST) returns. ICICI Bank announced the facility known as ‘GST Business Loan’ and said it would be available to any such business, including non-customers of the bank.
  • MSMEs will be sanctioned the overdraft amount within two working days and the bank will assess their GST returns to assess their eligibility for working capital limit. The overdraft amount could range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1 crore and would be up to 20 per cent of the turnover reported in the GST return. To avail of the facility, MSMEs can give residential, commercial or industrial property as collateral security. The customer will also not have to show any financial statements.

Airtel Payment Bank announced that users can withdraw cash from ATMs, without the need for a physical debit card

Airtel Payment Bank announced that users can withdraw cash from ATMs, without the need for a physical debit card. For this Airtel has partnered with Empays to enable Instant Money Transfer (IMT) for its account holders. 20,000 ATMs have been enabled with Empays IMT card-less cash technology which will expand to over 100,000 ATMs by the end of 2018. This new service is available to both smartphone and feature phone users through USSD (*400#) and MyAirtel app.

LIC launches group insurance scheme for CDSL demat account holders

  • Life Insurance Corporation of India has signed an agreement with Central Depository Services (India) to provide group insurance coverage to all eligible demat account holders serviced through depository participants associated with it.
  • The facility will be available to demat account holders between the age of 18 years and 59 years. CDSL serves more than 15.85 million demat accounts, which is 48 per cent of the industry.

IPPB ties up with FSS

  • India Post Payments Bank has tied up with Financial Software and Systems (FSS), a leading payments technology and transaction processing systems, to offer a wide range of banking solutions to financially underserved customer segments—especially rural households, small and medium enterprises and women.
  • FSS will help India Post to provide affordable, quality banking and payment services to its customers.

SpiceJet launched air cargo services

  • SpiceJet launched air cargo services and it also inducted its first freighter aircraft. The services will be offered under the brand name SpiceXpress. It will be set up as a separate business unit under the monitor of SpiceJet Limited. The cargo flight services would commence from September 18.

Centre sets up panel of secretaries into look e-commerce issues

  • With concerns being raised on some proposals of the draft e-commerce policy, the government has set up a group of secretaries to look into the issues, according to an official.
  • The group will be chaired by the secretary in the department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP) Ramesh Abhishek. The other members of the group include secretaries of the ministry of electronics and information technology and department of commerce. Representatives of Niti Aayog and department of economic affairs are also members of the group.

These include 500 MW additional power supply from India to Bangladesh, Akhaura – Agartala Rail Link and Rehabilitation of the Kulaura-Shahbazpur section of Bangladesh Railways.

  • Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) will facilitate access to advanced defence systems and enable India to optimally utilise its existing US-origin platforms.

NASA’s Dawn mission is about to end

  • Dawn, NASA’s only robot exploring the Asteroid Belt, is about to die. The spacecraft is likely to run out of a key fuel known as hydrazine which keeps it oriented and in communication with Earth — between September and October. Launched in September 2007, Dawn was majorly tasked to study two of the three known protoplanets of the asteroid belt Vesta and Ceres

  • Indo-Mongolia joint exercise Nomadic Elephant-2018, commenced at Mongolian Armed Forces (MAF) Five Hills Training Area, Ullanbaatar, Mongolia with a brief but impressive opening ceremony.
  • The 12 days long joint exercise will be conducted from 10 Sep to 21 Sep 2018.Exercise Nomadic Elephant is an annual, bilateral exercise since 2006 which is designed to strengthen the partnership between Indian Army and Mongolian Armed Forces.

Arpinder Singh is the first Indian to win a medal in the IAAF Continental Cup

  • Triple jumper Arpinder Singh has created history by becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the IAAF Continental Cup. At Ostrava in the Czech Republic, he clinched a bronze. The 25-year-old Arpinder was representing the Asia-Pacific team in the meet, held once every four years. Reigning Olympic and world champion Christian Taylor of the United States took the gold with a jump of 17.59 metres.
