The international festival of photography, will be held in Chennai
The second edition of the Chennai Photo Biennale (CPB), the international festival of photography, will be held from February 22 to March 24, 2019.
Synchronised with the art calender of Asia, the 30-day long festival would be held at 30 venues with 150 plus artists, 300 hours of programming and have 45 print exhibitions.
Lok Sabha passes Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill 2018
The Lok Sabha has passed the Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018. The Bill provides for the prevention, rescue, and rehabilitation of trafficked persons and seeks to establish National Anti-Trafficking Bureau to investigate trafficking cases.
It also provides for the setting up of Anti-Trafficking Units (ATUs) at e district level which will deal with the investigation, prevention, rescue, and protection of victims and witnesses.
Parliament has passed Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018 that aims to curb practice of evading criminal prosecution by economic offenders fleeing from country to evade clutches Indian law by remaining outside jurisdiction of Indian courts. The bill will replace an ordinance promulgated by President in April 2018.
The National Green Tribunal formed a monitoring committee on cleaning of the Yamuna
The National Green Tribunal formed a monitoring committee for Yamuna Rejuvenation Project.B S Sajwan and former Delhi chief secretary Shailaja Chandra has been appointed as members of the committee.
The committee has been asked to submit the report by December 31,2018. This decision was taken by a bench headed by National Green Tribunal (NGT) Chairperson A K Goel .

IRDAI Forms Panel To Review 3rd Party Motor Cover Costs
Insurance regulator Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has constituted a 16-member committeeto examine motor third party insurance pricing aspects and make recommendations on the premium rates for 2019-20. IRDAI Member P.J. Joseph has been appointed as the Chairman of the committee.

West Bengal passes resolution to change name of state to ‘Bangla’
The ruling Trinamool Congress government placed a proposal in the state assembly to change the name of West Bengal to “Bangla” in all languages. The proposal will now be sent to the Home Ministry for approval, and the name of the state will be changed only if the Ministry approves it.

The West Bengal Assembly passed the West Bengal Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2018, The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013. Parliament of India. A bill to provide for the establishment of a body of Lokpal for the Union and Lokayukta for States to inquire into allegations of corruption against certain public functionaries and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
Arunachal Pradesh to launch new health insurance scheme
The new Chief Minister’s Arogya Arunachal Yojana (CMAAY) will enable citizens to avail cashless health services in empanelled hospitals of Arunachal Pradesh. Once launched, the scheme will offer healthcare services of up to Rs. 5 lakh per family per year.

Venkaiah Naidu is appointed as the Chancellor of Pondicherry University
Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu is appointed as the Chancellor of Pondicherry Central University by the President, Ram Nath Kovind, in his capacity as Visitor of the university. The term of the Chancellor will be five years.
Odisha CM Inaugurates Rs 300 Crore Irrigation Dam Project
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Rs 300 crore Rukura Medium Irrigation Dam project in Sundargarh district.
This project will irrigate 5,800 hectares of the agricultural field. Mr Patnaik stated that his promises to provide irrigation to an additional 10 lakh hectare of land ahead of 2014 elections, will be fulfilled by 2019.

UNICEF International Children’s Film Festival in Kolkata
A bouquet of 32 offerings from 17 countries would be on show at the UNICEF 18th International Children’s Film Festival that began in Kolkata. The inaugural film Moana, produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, was screened after the festival was declared open by West Bengal Governor K.N. Tripathi at the Nandan film complex.

India ranks 11th in 2018 AT Kearney FDI Confidence Index
India has fallen out of top 10 destinations for Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in terms of its attractiveness according to 2018 Kearney FDI Confidence Index, in which it was ranked 11th, down from 8th in 2017 and 9th in 2016. The index was released by report published by global consultancy firm A T Kearney.

India was ranked 6th in the global optimism index with business optimism tepid in second quarter (Q2) of 2018. The index was released as part of Grant Thornton’s International Business Report (IBR), a quarterly global business survey. 3rd edition of Kabira festival 2018 held in Varanasi
The 3rd edition of Kabira festival 2018 will be held in Varanasi on November 16 to celebrate the spirit of 15th-century mystic poet Kabir. The annual festival conceived by the Mahindra group and Teamwork Arts, will feature a two-day programme of music, literature, talks and city explorations.
The festival will reverberate with music, poetry, discussions and more. It will bring together incredible artists, writers and performers who have imbibed the essence of Sant Kabir.
Veteran sports journalist Swapan Sarkar passed away due to diabetic complications. He was 67 years old. He worked for a number of dailies and was also the Delhi sports correspondent of Ananda Bazaar Patrika (ABP) from mid-1990’s.
He was a regular in the Delhi sports circuit having covered events like 1982 Asian Games, 2010 Commonwealth Games along with tournaments like Nehru Cup, Federation Cup, Durand Cup and DCM.
