    1).National Teachers Day is observed every year in India on5th September which marks the birthday of India’s1stVice President and2ndPresident Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan
    ·        Prime MinisterNarendra Modi released coins ofRs. 10 andRs. 125 denomination in honor of Dr. Radhakrishnan on this occasion
    ·        Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5th September1888 in Thiruttani, Madras Presidency of British India
    ·        He was a well knownTeacher, Indian Philosopher andStatesman
    ·        He held a great respect for teachers and believed that teachers are the real nation builders
    ·        Important positions held by Dr. Radhakrishnan are as follows
    a.   1st Vice President of India (1952 – 1962)
    b.   2ndPresident of India (1962 – 1967)
    ·        Awards and Honors received by Dr. Radhakrishnan are as follows
    a.   Bharat Ratna – 1954 – 1strecipient of Bharat Ratna along with politicianC. Rajagopalachariand scientistSir C. V. Raman

    2).Union Government announced its acceptance of theOne Rank One Pension (OROP)
    ·        Union Minister of DefenceManohar Parrikar released the following amendments made by the government in the scheme
    a.   The base year is taken as2013for calculation of the OROP and it will be implemented fromJuly 2014
    b.   Ex-servicemen who have taken voluntary retirement would not be eligible for the scheme
    c.   Aone-member judicial committee will be set to work out the details of implementation of the OROP which will file a report in six months
    ·        The ex-servicemen who have been on agitation rejected the key details of the decision stating that they are not yet satisfied with the changes announced by the Government

    3).G20 andOrganisation for Economic Co-operation and Development(OECD) announcednew corporate governance codeto safeguard minority shareholders’ interests and promote capital market as a key platform to raise funds
    ·        Featuresof the new code
    a.   It addresses the issue of enhanced cross-border cooperation among regulators
    b.   To promote bilateral and multilateral arrangements for exchange of information
    c.   It states that the impediments to cross border voting by shareholders should be eliminated
    ·        Regulators and policy makers across the world including SEBI will update their regulations according to the new code
    ·        The new G20 and OECD principles of Corporate Governance was released by the following dignitaries in the G20 minister level meeting
    a.   OECD Secretary General –Angel Gurria
    b.   Turkish Deputy Prime Minister –Cevdet Yilmaz

    4). Prime MinisterNarendra Modi announced the Government’s decision to developBodhgaya(the land of enlightenment) as aspiritual capital after visiting theMahabodhi Temple
    ·        Buddhists all over the world revere Bodhgaya as a place of pilgrimage
    ·        This decision of the government will strengthen thecivilization bond between India and the Buddhist world
    ·        Bodhgaya – a place where Buddha attained his enlightenment
    ·        The Prime Minister describedBuddhaas acrown jewel of India

    5).Maharashtra Government to train about50,000 government employees as a part of itsKey Result Area (KRA) programme
    ·        The aim of this training programme is to enhance the employees performance and bring them on par in competence with thecorporate sector
    ·        Incharge of the KRA training programme –Ajit Deshmukh – Under Secretary of theGeneral Administration Department (GAD)
    ·        It focuses on training bureaucrats, freshClass-I officersand those reaching the age of 50
    ·        Experts have set asyllabus to train employees under this programme
    ·        The employees will be provided training in the following areas
    a.   Public administration
    b.   Management skills
    c.   Budget and finance
    d.   Various laws
    e.   Skills in Computer
    f.     Information technology

    6). Indian-AmericanPulitzer Prize winnerJhumpa Lahiri won the2014 National Humanities Medal of White House
    ·        She has been bestowed with this award in recognition for her fictional works which have illuminated the Indian-American experience
    ·        Jhumpa Lahiri – original name –Nilanjana Sudeshna
    ·        She is a professor of Creative Writing at Princeton University and some of her famous works are as follows
    a.   Interpreter of Maldives(1999) – winner of 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction
    b.   Namesake (2003)
    c.   The Lowland (2013)
    ·        National Humanities Medal – is given by the US President to persons, groups or institutions for their works in the following fields
    a.   Deepened US understanding of the humanities
    b.   Broadens US citizens engagement with the humanities
    c.   Expands US access to important resources in the humanities

    7).Young Indian shooterApurvi Chandel won thesilver medal in women’s10m air rifle event of theISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup Finalsin Munich
    o  Ahmadi Elahehof Iran won the gold medal in the tournament
    o  Andrea Arsovicof Serbia bagged the bronze medal
    o  With this win Apurvi Chandel has qualified for theRio Olympics

    8). World’s shortest manChandra Bahadur Dangi passed away in Samoa Islands
    ·        He was verified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s shortest man at21.5 inches (54.6cm)
    ·        The 75 year old Dangi lived in a remote village around 400km from Kathmandu
    ·        He had travelled the world after being officially declared as the world’s shortest man in 2013
    ·        He shot to fame after his photo with the world’s tallest manSultan Kosen (Turkey) was released in 2013
