    1). The6th Indo-Maldives joint Training Exercise started atPangode Military Station in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala
    ·        The training exercise started in31st August 2015and will end with a closing ceremony on13thSeptember 2015
    ·        Theaim of this exercise is as follows
    a.   To acquaint forces of both the countries learn about each other’s operating procedures
    b.   To increase understanding and interoperability between armies of both the countries
    ·        45 soldiers each from theIndian Army (BIHAR Regiment) and theMaldivian National Defence Forceparticipated in the exercise

    2). Anil Ambani’sReliance Defence Ltd. signed a MoU with theAbu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) to start a strategic partnership for construction of naval ships
    ·        As per the MoU aJoint Venture (JV) company will be started which will construct new naval ships as well as repair, maintain, overhaul and refit the existing commercial and naval vessels inGulf region
    ·        The stake of the JV will be distributed between the 2 companies as follows
    a.   RDL– 51%
    b.   ADSB –49%
    ·        This MoU was signed as per statement issued by Prime MinisterNarendra Modi during his visit toUnited Arab Emirates (UAE) in August 2015

    3).Qatar positioned around1000 ground troops inYemen to suppress theShia Houthi rebels who have taken over Yemen
    o  In January 2015 the Shia Houthi rebels seized power by dissolving Yemen’s government and parliament
    o  They had taken control of key governmental buildings in Yemen’s capitalSanaaandPresidential Palace
    o  The Qatar troops are supported by armoured vehicles and military helicopters inMarib province of Yemen
    o  In March 2015, Qatar andGulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members exceptOman signed a joint statement withSaudi Arabia to form coalition to take military action against the rebels

    4). Union Information Technology (IT) MinisterRavi Shankar Prasad announced the decision ofBharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to upgrade its Broadband speed at least by2 Mbps in India
    ·        BSNL – 1sttelecom service provider in India to provide Broadband Access
    ·         The additional speed will be free of cost for all its existing Broadband customers from1stOctober 2015
    ·        The existing speed of plans are as follows
    a.   512 Kbps
    b.   1 Mbps
    ·        Other services that will be provided by BSNL are as follows
    a.   To facilitatefree night calling services from its landline to all operator networks
    b.   Free incoming roaming servicesfor its mobile customers

    5). Union Information and Broadcasting MinisterArun Jaitleylaunchede-version of the 100 volumes ofCollected Works of Mahatma Gandhi (CWMG) in New Delhi
    ·        The CWMG was published byPublications Division
    ·        TheElectronic Master Copy of CWMG Volumes 1-100 is in the form of a searchablePDF beta version
    ·        A team of scholars compiled the works of Mahatma Gandhi’s works which includes the following
    a.   Historic speeches of Gandhi
    b.   Logical profiles of Gandhi’s life
    c.   His thoughts, actions and engagements
    ·        The authentic documentation of Mahatma Gandhi’s available writings was done under theCWMG Project
    ·        The CWMG project started onSeptember 1956 and ended on2nd October 1994 with the publication of the1000thvolume

    6). Himachal Pradesh Agriculture MinisterSujan Singh Pathania inaugurated a 3-dayOrganic Fair and Food Festival in Shimla to promote organic farming in the state
    ·        The fair was organized by the following organizations
    a.   Himachal PradeshDepartment of Agriculture
    b.   International Competence Center for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA), Bangalore
    ·        Farmers from all over the state have displayed their products in the fair
    ·        In Himachal Pradesh around90% of the population resides in rural areas out of which79%families are dependent on agriculture
    ·        Presently organic farming is done on16,000 hectareland

    7).Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cancelled the license of its holding companySahara India Financial Corporation Limited (SIFCL)
    ·        TheDepartment of Non-Banking Supervisionof the RBI took this action due to theseveral irregularities in the operation of Sahara India
    ·        SIFCL has also been ignoring financial rules and regulations of RBI
    ·        In 2008 RBI hadbanned SIFCL from taking any deposits from the people under its chit fund operations
    a.   Many depositors had complained to the RBI that they were not being paid back their money by SIFCL
    ·        RBI took this penal action of cancelling the licence of SIFCL after analyzing thereport of investigation against the complaints

    8).J. Manjula appointed as the newDirector General (DG) ofElectronics& Communications Systems of theDefence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)
    ·        She has been appointed as one of the 7 DG’s
    ·        She was previously associated with the following organizations due to her expertise inelectronic warfare systems for Air Force
    a.   Scientist and Director ofDefence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE)
    b.   Defence Electronis Research Laboratory (DLRL)

    9). Agriculture expertRamesh Chand appointed as the new member of theNiti Aayog
    ·        The Niti Aayog headed by EconomistArvind Panagariya, has 2 other members namely
    a.  EconomistBibek Debroy
    b.   Former DRDO chiefV. K. Saraswat
    ·        Ramesh Chand is the3rd member to join the planning commission
    ·        His appointment signifies the Government’s efforts to revive the agriculture sector and reaffirm its commitment to the farmers
    ·        Atask force has been formed by the government to suggest ways to boost agriculture sector by carrying out the following activities
    a.   Reinvigorate agriculture
    b.   To reform and identify successful experiments

    10). Indian WeightlifterDeepak Lather wongold medal in the62kgcategory in the 5thYouth Commonwealth Games (CYG)
    ·        India was represented by25athletes in CYG
    ·        India’sJamjang Deru also won gold medal in the56kgcategory
    ·        Deepak Lather finished with a total of258kgswhich includes
    a.   120 kg in snatch – anew CYG record
    b.   138 kg in clean& jerk category
