    1). The Union Cabinet approved the launch ofGold Monetization Schemes(GMS) as announced by the Finance MinisterArun Jaitley in 2015-16 budget speech
    ·        The schemes approved under this initiative are as follows
    a.   Gold Deposit Scheme(GDS)
    b.   Gold Metal Loan(GML) Scheme
    ·        These schemes will be launched along with theSovereign Gold Bond Scheme (SGBS)
    ·        Under SGBS, bonds will be issued with an interest rate decided by the Union Government and calculated on value at the time of investment
    ·        Objectives of GMS are as follows
    a.   To lure away Indians to from buying physical gold
    b.   To reduce the country’s dependency on the import of gold to meet domestic demand
    c.   To enable depositors to earn interest on their gold accounts
    d.   To benefit the Indian gems and jewellery sector
    e.   To put gold held by households and institutions into productive use rather than mobilizing it

    2). The Union Government approved the launch ofNational Offshore Wind Energy Policy to generate electricity from offshore windmills located in theExclusive Economic Zone(EEZ) of India
    ·        This policy of India will help to attain energy security and achieveNational Action Plan on Climate Change(NAPCC) targets
    ·        Offshore wind power projects and Research& Development activities will be done in waters within the EEZ of India
    ·        EEZ – waters up to the seaward distance of200 Nautical Milesfrom the base line
    ·        The projects under this policy will be carried along the 7600 km long Indian coastline
    ·        Union Ministry of New& Renewable Energy (MNRE) – nodal ministry for this project
    ·        National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) – nodal agency for allocation of offshore Wind energy blocks and to frame guidelines for coordination and allied functions with related ministries and agencies

    3).India andIndonesiasigned an agreement to cooperate in all criminal matters including gathering evidence
    ·        India will execute summons to an accused person requiring to produce documents and attend or search-warrant issued by anIndonesian court
    ·        Similarly Indonesia will repeat the same action to execute summons if there is any request from theIndian courts
    ·        Summons or warrant would be sent to itsInternal Security Division II for transmission to theMinistry of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia

    4). Union Cabinet approved 100%Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) under the automatic route forWhite Label ATM Operations (WLAO)
    ·        White Label ATMs
    a.   ATMs owned and operated by private non-bank companies are termed as White Labeled ATMs
    b.   They are meant to expand the reach of ATMs inTier III to VI centers
    c.   As perRBI norms, non-bank company that owns white labeled ATMs should provide banking services to customers based on cards issued by banks
    ·        Before the approval of the government FDI in WLAO was allowed through government approval route which was time consuming leading to delay in projects
    ·        This approval will make FDI inflows in WLAO easier thus promoting financial inclusion in the country includingPradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)

    5). Union Government approvedspectrum trading norms for harmonious spread of telecom services to increase emphasis on evolving more flexible and market oriented approach in Telecom sector
    ·        The norms were approved as per the recommendations of theTelecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)
    ·        Telecom companies can trade spectrum especially unutilized spectrum in all bands among themselves without taking any government permission
    ·        The original validity period of spectrum assignment will not be altered due to spectrum trading
    ·        The ownership right will remain with the Union Government

    6).Tamil Nadu’s 1st Global Investors Summit (TNGIM) 2015 began in Chennai to encourage investors to invest in the state on 10thSeptember 2015
    ·        TNGIM 2015 is 1stof its kind investors summit held in southern state of India seeking a investment commitment ofRs. 1 lakh crore
    ·        Summit was inaugurated by the Tamil Nadu Chief MinisterJ. Jayalalithaa at theChennai Trade Centre
    ·        State government is planning to sign about100 MoUs on the 2nd day of summit to generate1,50,000 jobs over the3 years
    ·        9 countries have registered themselves as partner nations for the mega investment event namely; United Kingdom, France, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Canada, Australia, Russia

    7).Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was bestowed with the prestigiousGandhi Peace Prize 2014
    ·        ISRO ChairmanA. S. Kiran Kumar received the award from PresidentPranab Mukherjeeat a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi
    ·        Gandhi Peace Prize
    a.   It was 1stestablished in1995 by the Union Government to mark the125thbirth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi
    b.   The prize consist of a plaque, a citation andRs. 1 crore
    c.   It is awarded to individuals and institutions for their contribution towards social, economic and political transformation through non-violence and other Gandhian methods
    ·        ISRO was chosen for the award for the following reasons
    a.   Developing space technology and satellite based services
    b.   Making space technology a catalyst of development of India
    c.   Bringing societal transformation by providing service to the common man of the nation

    8). Union Home MinisterRajnath Singh inaugurated theSub-Regional Drug Focal Point Meeting and Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (CPDAP), South Asia in New Delhi
    o  CPDAP is held under theDrug Demand Reduction (DDR) Expert Group Consultation
    o  The 3-day meeting has been organized byNarcotics Control Bureau (NCB)
    o  The main objective is to review the progress of theDrug Demand and Supply Reductionactivities in the South Asia region
    o  CPDAP will provide a great platform to coordinate among different countries fighting for the cause of drug menace
    o  About40 delegates from various countries are participating
