    1). World Science Day for Peace and Development orWorld Science Day was observed on10th November 2015 across the world
    ·        Theme –Science for a Sustainable Future, it was chosen against the backdrop of2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as approved by the UN
    ·        United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) conducted several discussions, special campaigns and visits to science museums for school children to raise awareness of benefits of science worldwide
    ·        World Science Day was created as follow-up to theWorld Conference on Science
    ·        1999– UNESCO and theInternational Council for Science in Budapest, Hungary jointly organized the 1st World Science Day
    2). Union Governmentstarted the process to sell5% stake inContainer Corporation of India(CONCOR) for overRs. 1,300 crore
    ·        Government holds61.80% stake in CONCOR which is under the administrative control of theRailways Ministry
    ·        TheDepartment of Disinvestment has initiated the process of engagement of merchant bankers and selling brokers through theOffer For Sale (OFS) route
    ·        The government has budgeted to raiseRs. 69,500 crore through PSU disinvestments of whichRs. 41,000 croreis to be raised through minority stake sale in PSUs and anotherRs. 28,500 crore through strategic sale
    ·        Government has been able to raiseRs. 12,600 crore through stake sale in 4 PSUs as volatile market conditions have dented disinvestment plans
    3). Union Government simplified Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) rules in 15 sectors and raised the threshold limit for approval by Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) from Rs. 3,000 crore to Rs. 5,000 crore
    ·        As per the announcement made by Department of Industrial Policy& Promotion (DIPP) the following are some of the important sectors where rules have been eased
    a)   Defence – Proposals over 49% will be scrutinized by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB)
    b)   Construction development – the requirements of minimum capitalization of 5 million dollars within the period of 6 months of commencement of business and conditions of area restriction have been removed
    c)   Broadcasting – FDI has been raised from 74% to 100% for broadcasting carriage services like teleports, direct to home (DTH), cable network and mobile TV
    d)   In services including FM radio and up-linking ofNews& Government route current affairs TV channels, the FDI has been raised from 24% to 49%
    e)   Civil aviation
    f)    Agriculture
    g)   Plantation – coffee, tea, rubber, cardamom, palm oil tree and olive oil tree plantations to be allowed a FDI of 100%
    h)   Limited liability partnerships
    i)    Manufacturing – manufacturing companies with FDI in all sectors including electronics like mobile phones will be allowed to sell on-line directly without tying up with domestic e-commerce companies
    j)    Single-brand retail – Government clarified that forstate-of-art andcutting edge technology, the30% sourcing norms can be relaxed subject to Government approval
    k)   Private sector banking
    4). Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar commissioned the Coast Guard’s latest and largest offshore patrol vessel, Samarth into Indian Navy 
    ·        Samarth is 1st in the series of six 105m offshore patrol vessels and has been built by Goa Shipyard
    ·        With a displacement of 2450 tonnes, the ship is equipped with the following facilities sophisticated technology
    a)   Sensors
    b)   Navigation communication
    c)   Weapon systems
    5). India’s latest communications satellite, GSAT-15 launched successfully by the European Ariane 5 VA-227 launch Vehicle on 11th November 2015
    ·        GSAT-15 weighing 3,164 kg carries the following components
    ·        Communication transponders in Ku-band
    ·        GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) payload operating in L1 and L5 bands
    ·        After a flight of 43 minutes and 24 seconds, GSAT-15 separated from the Ariane 5 upper stage in an elliptical Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) in the following directions
    a)   A perigee (nearest point to Earth) of 250 km and
    b)   An apogee (farthest point to Earth) of 35,819 km, inclined at an angle of 3.9 degree to the equator
    ·        The achieved orbit was very close to the intended one
    ·        ISRO’s Master Control Facility (MCF) at Hassan in Karnataka took over the command and control of GSAT-15 immediately after its separation from the launch vehicle
    6). UAE’s NBD bank announced a partnership deal with State Bank of India (SBI) to help NRI customers in the gulf to carry out their remittances instantly and more conveniently through the DirectRemit 60 seconds remittance platform
    ·        With this partnership, the bank’s NRI customers who also bank with SBI can now avail themselves of the fastest remittance service in the UAE more easily
    ·        The partnership will also allow fund transfers to SBI bank accounts across India in 60 seconds at zero fees
    ·        Emirates NBD currently has existing tie-ups with the following banks in India
    a)   HDFC Bank
    b)   ICICI Bank
    c)   Axis Bank
    ·        Emirates NBD customers can also transfer money to other banks in India with their remittance being processed within an hour
    ·        Customers can avail of the 60 seconds money transfer service through the following mediums
    a)   Online banking
    b)   Mobile banking
    c)   ATMs
    ·        DirectRemit – customers will be able to transfer funds back home instantly and can also make home loan payments, pay bills, remit insurance premiums or carry out  investments
    7). Independent Commission (IC) on Doping in Sports chaired by Richard Proud submitted its report to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in Vienna, Switzerland
    ·        WADA launched the IC in December 2014 to investigate the validity of the following allegations that implicate Russian Government agencies, labs, athletes, coaches among others
    a)   Doping practices
    b)   Corrupt practices around sample collection
    c)   Results management
    ·        The allegations were based on a documentary named Top Secret Doping: How Russia makes its Winners that was aired by the German television channel ARD
    ·        The following are the key features of the report
    a)   There has been a systematic level of doping that had been perpetuated by unscrupulous athlete support personnel and state agencies 
    b)   It recommended that WADA declare The All-Russia Athletic Federation (ARAF) and Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to be Code noncompliant
    c)   It also recommended that WADA withdraw its accreditation of the Moscow laboratory as soon as possible and that its Director be permanently removed from his position
    d)   As the Moscow laboratory is unable to act independently, the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) should suspend ARAF
    8). Reserve Bank GovernorRaghuram Rajanappointed as theVice Chairman of the board of theBank for International Settlements (BIS) headquartered inBasel, Switzerland
    ·        BIS fosters international cooperation amongst central banks with a view to ensuring global monetary and financial stability
    ·        BIS board meets at least6 times a year 
    ·        The BIS board includes the following dignitaries
    a)   US Federal Reserve Chair –Janet Yellen
    b)   Bank of England Governor –Mark Carney
    c)   Bank of Japan Governor –Haruhiko Kuroda
    ·        The Board of Directors elects aChairman and aVice-Chairman from among its members each for a3-year term
    9). Former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, JusticeAjit Prakash Shah appointed as theEthics Officer orombudsmanatBoard of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India
    ·        He will be the sole decision maker on all conflict of interest issues plaguing Indian cricket
    ·        The decision to appoint an ombudsman was taken at the Board’s86thAnnual General Meeting to end the problem on conflict of interest in the Board
    10). Pakistan batsmanYounis Khan announced his retirement from one-day international cricket stating that the 1stday-night game against England on 11th November 2015 will be his last match
    ·        Younis – he became the 1stPakistani batsman to score 9000 Test runs besides hitting 31 centuries
    ·        Test cricket average – 53.94 in 104 matches
    ·        In contrast, he struggled in the one-day games with an average of just 31.34 in 264 matches
