    1). The4thedition ofInternational Day of the Girl Child(IDGC) was observed on11thOctober 2015 across the world
    ·        It was observed for the1st time on11th October 2012 with the themeEnding child marriage
    ·        2015 theme –The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030
    ·        IDGC is observed to recognizegirl’s rights and the unique challenges they face around the world
    ·        It also increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based on their gender
    ·        This year’s theme focuses on adolescent girls andSustainable Development Goals(SDG) to be achieved by2030
    ·        SDG has set17 international targets including on gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls

    2). Prime MinsiterNarendra Modi announced that India will observe26thNovember asConstitution Day (Samvidhan Divas) to spread awareness of Indian Constitution and its architectDr. B. R. Ambedkar
    ·        He made this announcement after laying the foundation stone ofDr. Ambedkar Memorial atIndu Mills Compound in Mumbai
    ·        26th November 1949– Indian Constitution was adopted by the 389 member Constitution Assembly (CA) and it came in effect on26thJanuary 1950
    ·        Dr. Ambedkar Memorial at Indu Mills will be part of the5 landmarks associated with the life of Ambedkar known asPanch teerths
    ·        These Panch teerths are located at the following five locations
    a)   Mhow, Madhya Pradesh
    b)   Alipur House, Delhi
    c)   Indu Mills memorial
    d)   Dr. Ambedkar’s residence in Mumbai
    e)   Dr. Ambedkar’s house in London
    ·        Dr. Ambedkar Memorial in Mumbai will feature the following
    a)   A 150 feet tall statue of Dr. Ambedkar
    b)   A 140 feet high dome stupa
    c)   The life and works of Ambedkar will be displayed
    d)   Research centre
    e)   Library and Museum
    f)    Auditorium
    g)   Park
    h)   Ponds and Plaza
    i)    A medication centre that can accommodate 13,000 people at a time

    3).Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approvedYes Bank to set up a mutual fund,Asset Management Company (AMC) and a trustee company
    o  The AMC will focus on savings of retail and institutional investors in equity and debt capital markets
    o  AMC and the trustee company will be wholly owned subsidiaries of the Yes Bank

    4).India andJordansigned6 MoUs in various fields and both countries also assured to enhance their cooperation in counter-terrorism and defence
    ·        Indian PresidentPranab Mukherjee is on a threeMiddle East Nations tour to the following 3 countries
    a)   Jordan
    b)   Palestine
    c)   Israel
    ·        The following are the MoUs signed during his visit to Jordan
    a)   MoU on executive programme forcultural exchangebetween the Jordanian and Indian governments
    b)   MoU onCommunication and Information Technologyto cooperate in the field of ICT and electronic fields
    c)   MoU between Jordan News AgencyPetra and thePress Trust of India (PTI)
    d)   MoU onMaritime Transport Sector
    e)   MoU betweenJordan Institute of Diplomacy andIndian Foreign Service Institute (IFSI)
    f)    MoU betweenIndian Metrological Department (IMD) and JordanStandards and Metrology Organisation to cooperate in assessment techniques
    ·        The MoU’s were signed in the presence of the following dignitaries inAmman
    a)   Indian President – Pranab Mukherjee
    b)   Jordan Prime Minister –Abdullah Ensour
    ·        Pranab Mukherjee also inaugurated a street named afterMahatma Gandhi in Amman and planted an Olive tree in peace park
    ·        Jordan also assured its full support to India’s candidature in the expandedUnited Nations Security Council (UNSC)

    5). TheOrissa Government launchedMission Abbas, an urban housing mission to provide affordable houses toEconomically Weaker Sections (EWS),Low Income Groups (LIG) and slum dwellers
    ·        Objective – to protect and provide the slum dwellers with affordable housing along with the following basic amenities
    a)   Piped water supply
    b)   Electricity
    c)   Concrete roads
    d)   Drainage
    e)   Community centre
    ·        Abaas will be the nodal agency to execute thePolicy for Housing for All in urban areas
    ·        Free land will be provided by the government inPublic Private Partnership (PPP) mode to developers on which10,000 houses for EWS and LGS will be constructed inBhubaneswar
    ·        Mission Directorate will be set up by the government for implementing the policy
    ·        Pre – cast and Pre – fabrication technology will be used under the mission

    6). Prime MinsterNarendra Modi laid the foundation stone of4thterminal ofJawaharlal Nehru port Trust(JNPT) in Mumbai
    ·        JNPT is thelargest container port in India
    ·        This 4thterminal project will be carried out in 2 phases at a estimated cost ofRs. 7900 crore
    ·        This project will double the present capacity of JNPT from4.5 million units to10 millionunits by2017 after which this port is expected to make it intop 15 ports of the world
    ·        The new terminal will play an important role in India’sExport-Import trade
    ·        This project involves the construction of2 berths of1km in each of the2 phases
    ·        It will be executed byBharat Mumbai Container Terminal(BMCT), a subsidiary ofPort of Singapore on a design, fund,built, operate and transfer (BOT) basis

    7).Angus Deaton, a British economist won the2015 Nobel Prize in Economicsfor his analysis of consumption, poverty and welfare
    ·        It was announced by theRoyal Swedish Academy of Sciences
    ·        Deaton is a professor in the Economics Department atPrinceton University
    ·        He focuses on the determinants of health in rich and poor countries as well as on the measurement of poverty in Indian and around the world

    8). Indian shuttlerAjay Jayaram won the50,000 dollar 2015 Dutch Open Grand Prixbadminton tournament by defeating Estonia’sRaul Must in the final match played at Almere, Netherlands
    ·        He had previously won this title in2014, thus he defended his title by this victory
    ·        Ajay was the1st Indian to win badminton Grand Prix tournament under the new(11×5) scoring system
    ·        This is his2nd achievement in this season after thesilver medal that he had won in the men’s category of the2015 Korea Open Badminton tournament
    ·        He has won the following3international badminton titles previously
    a)   New Zealand Open – 2009
    b)   Thailand Open – 2010
    c)   Czech Open – 2013

    9).Punjab National Bank (PNB) won the2015 Beighton Cup hockey tournament defeating theIndian Oil Corporation(IOC) in the final match held in Kolkata
    ·        IOC had won this cup 4 times prior to this defeat
    ·        Beighton Cup of Hockey
    a)   It is one of the oldest field hockey tournament that was established in1895
    b)   It is named afterT. D. Beighton, theLegal Remembrancer of the Government of Bengal in British India
    c)   it is organized by theBengal Hockey Association (BHA)

    10). Serbia’sNovak Djokovic won the2015 China Open Men’s Singles title by defeating Spain’sRafael Nadal in the final match held at Beijing
    ·        This is the4th consecutive win for Djokovic inBeijing and 4th consequent title since 2012
    ·        He is the only player to have won the title 6 times
    ·        Djokovic has won8 titles in2015 season that includes the following

    11). Legendary Tamil ActressGopishanta popularly known asAachi Manorama passed away on 10th October 2015 due to multiple organ failure in Chennai
