    1).An international research team led byNicolas Gruber, a professor atETH Zurichdiscovered thatAntarctic Ocean has been absorbing increasing levels ofCarbon Dioxide (CO2) over the past decade
    ·        CO2  – a potentGreenhouse Gas (GHG)
    ·        Antarctic Ocean’s carbon sink has become much stronger
    ·        Thiscarbon sink might have begun to saturate due to increase in CO2 absorbing levels
    ·        Antarctic Ocean (Southern Ocean) seasonally absorbs vast amount of CO2 from the atmosphere and releases it back later in the year
    ·        The seas surrounding Antarctica absorb significantly more CO2 than they release on an annual average
    ·        These seas help to remove a large part of CO2 that human activities emit into the atmosphere thus slowing down the GHG in the atmosphere lessening the rate of climate change
    ·        Antarctic Ocean accounts for40% of global oceanicuptake CO2

    2). The Road Transport and Highways MinisterNitin Gadkari announced the decision to add50,000 km of roads to theNational Highways(NH) network
    ·        This is more thantwice the length that the NDA Government had added and3 timesof what the UPA government added
    ·        In the past15 months the government has added about7000km of roads to the NH length

    ·        Previously he was CEO and MD ofLakshmi Vilas Bank since March 2014
    ·        He had helped the Lakshmi Vilas Bank to excel in all parameters in 18 months

    ·        The PAP won a majority of83 seats out of the total89Parliamentary seats
    ·        The oppositionWorker’s Party won6seats

    ·        According to the Elections Department PAP had won69.86%of the total votes cast
    ·        With this win the PAP has secured their14thconsecutive term in office since1965

    ·        This is the17th Grand Slam victory for Leander Paes
    ·        They became the1stteam to win3Grand Slam mixed doubles titles in the same season at the US Open since1969
