    c)   Regional Air Connectivity
    ·        He also launched theCorporate logo of Pawan Hans Limitedand a coffee table book

    3).Paytm has tied up with theMumbai metro to offer online ticket booking services and recharges on the Paytm platform
    ·        This facility is available across thePaytm app, a website and mobile site
    ·        This was announced by Senior Vice President of PaytmShankar Nath

    4). TheNepal Parliament unanimously elected UCPN – Maoist lawmakerOnsari Gharti Magar as theSpeaker of the House
    ·        She is the1st woman speaker of Parliament in Nepal

    5).Pakistan andRussiasigned an important agreement to build a1,100kmNorth-South gaspipeline fromLahore to Karachi
    ·        Objective – to develop a multi-dimensional relationship with Russia in the following fields
    a)   Defence
    b)   Trade
    c)   Energy
    d)   Culture
    e)   Infrastructure
    ·        Russia will invest2 billion dollars in this project
    ·        The pipeline will be built by Russian companyRT Global Resources, a subsidiary of Russian state corporationRostec
    ·        The pipeline has a capacity of12.4 billion cubic meters per annum and is expected to be completed by December2017
    ·        It will connect Karachi’s Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) terminals with those in Lahore
    ·        This project will be implemented in compliance withBuild Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) model

    6).China launched a new communication satelliteAPSTAR-9 by theLong March – 3B carrier rocket from the southwesternXichang Satellite Launch Centre
    ·        APSTAR – 9 will replace its predecessorAPSTAR-9Awhich was launched in 1998 and will stay in service for at least 15 years
    ·        APSTAT-9 was developed using China’sDFH-4 platform for the Hong-Kong basedAPT Satellite Company Ltd.
    ·        APT’s APSTAR fleet will be able to cover some3/4thof global population of the following countries to provide TV transmission, transponder data and satellite communication services

    c)   Europe
    d)   Australia
    ·        This is the214thmission of the Long March carrier rocket series developed byChina Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTC)

    7).G. R. Chandak has been appointed as the Director of theCentre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), Hyderabad under theDepartment of Biotechnology
    ·        Chandak received his MD in Biochemistry from Benarus Hindu University and PhD from Osmania University
    ·        Previously he was agroup leader at theCentre for Cellular and Molecular Biology
    ·        His group has identified novel genes associated withchronic pancreatitis
    ·        They also discovered that its genetic basis is different in Indians from that in the Europeans
    ·        He has published about80 articles in the following journals

    b)   Nature Genetics
    c)   Lancet
    ·        He is a member ofScience Akademi and anAdjunct Group Leader at Genome Institute of Singapore

    8).M. K. Surana appointed as the new Chairman and Managing Director ofHindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL)
    o  He was selected by thePublic Enterprise Selection Board (PESB)
    o  Presently he is the Chief Executive Officer ofPrize Petroleum Co. Ltd.
    o  He succeededNishi Vasudeva
    o  He is a mechanical engineer and has served as the General Manager of projects for theVishaka Refinery of HPCL

    9). Poet, Lyricist and advertising guruPrasoon Joshi won theMaharaja Sayajirao Bhasha Samman award for his outstanding contribution in promoting Hindi
