    1).17thOctober 2015 was observed asInternational Day for the Eradication of Poverty throughout the world
    ·        2015 theme – Building a sustainable future: Coming together to end poverty and discrimination
    ·        Significanceof the day – to promote awareness among the people to eradicate poverty and destitution around the world particularly in developing countries
    ·        This day was 1stobserved in1993

    2).MaharashtraGovernment declareddrought-likecondition in14,708 villages out of the state’s total43,000 villagesstating that they have received inadequate rainfall in monsoon season 2015 leading todecrease in Kharif production
    ·        This shows that the drought covers34% of the state
    ·        The following are the regions identified under the drought condition
    a)   Marathwada region – around8522villages have been impacted due to this natural calamity and accounts for58% of the drought area in the state
    b)   North Maharashtra region – around4869 villages are impacted and accounts for33% of the drought area
    ·        Konkan region – not a single village is affected by the calamity and has experienced a plentiful monsoon
    ·        The drought like condition was announced by a state Cabinet Sub-Committee led by the State Agriculture MinisterEknath Khadse in Mumbai
    ·        The following are the relief measures decided by the committee
    a)   Towaive off college and school fees of students residing in these villages
    b)   Electricity bills of farmers using agriculture pumps has been subsided by1/3rdof the total amount

    3).RajasthanGovernment issued a notification to provide5% quota toGujjars and theSpecial Backward Classes (SBC) under theRajasthan Special Backward Classes Reservation Act, 2015
    ·        The Act came into effect from16th October 2015
    ·        Earlier in September 2015, the state government had passed the following 2 separate bills to provide reservation in educational institutions and government jobs
    a)   Rajasthan Special Backward Classes Reservation Bill, 2015– 5% quota to SBC
    b)   Rajasthan Economically Backward Classes Reservation Bill, 2015– 14% reservation toEconomically Backward Classes (EBC) of unreserved categories
    ·        Now as per the notification the following communities will be provided5%reservation in educational institutes and government jobs
    a)   Gujjars
    b)   Raibari
    c)   Banjara
    d)   Gadiya Lohar

    4).Aditya Birla Group launched a new online fashion storeAbof.com with an aim to offer shoppers range of merchandise brands from its subsidiaries and other companies
    ·        Abof –Aditya Birla Online Fashion
    ·        With this launch the company has entered into e-commerce space which is considered as sunrise sector from an investment point of view
    ·        President and CEO of Abof.com –Prashant Gupta

    5).Maharashtra Government appointedShreehari Aney as theAdvocate General (AG) of the state as per the provisions ofArticle 165 of Constitution
    ·        Article 165: Advocate General (AG) for the state
    a)   He holds office during the pleasure of the Governor of state
    b)   He is the person who is qualified to be appointed as a Judge of a High Court
    c)   His duty is to give advice to state government on legal matters and perform duties of legal character assigned by Governor
    ·        Mr. Aney succeeded –Sunil Manohar
    ·        He was born in Pune, Maharashtra in 1950
    ·        Educational qualification – Law at Indian Law Society’s law school in Pune
    ·        He was a member of theMaharashtra Law Commission and has been practicing law as a senior counsel for over 2 decades
    ·        He has appeared in the followinghigh-profile cases of governments
    a)   Adarsh Housing Society scam
    b)   Maharahstra Sadan controversy
    ·        He was also Maharashtra state government in the ongoing legal case over thechikki controversy
