    1). TheSupreme Court (SC) stayed the implementation of theHaryana Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Act, 2015
    ·        The stay order was issued by the SC bench headed by Justice J. Chelameswar on petitions challenging the validity of the Act
    ·        The SC bench also issued notices to the Haryana Government and the State Election Commission seeking their response in4 weeks
    ·        In September 2015, Haryana legislative assembly has passed this amendment bill to improve the quality of leadership, accountability and governance inPanchayati Raj Institutions (PRI)
    ·        This bill had set the followingmandatory minimum qualification for candidates contesting in Panchayati elections
    a.   10thstandard – men contesting in General category
    b.   9thstandard – women in General category
    c.   5thstandard – women in Scheduled Caste category
    2). TheUnion Government launchedPradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana(PMKKKY) to provide for the welfare of people and areas affected by mining related operations using the funds collected by theDistrict Mineral Foundations (DMF)
    ·        Aimof PMKKKY
    a.   To mitigate the adverse impacts due to mining operation on the health and environment
    b.   To ensure long-term sustainable livelihoods for the affected people in mining areas
    c.   To implement various welfare and developmental projects in mining affected areas
    ·        60% of DMFs will be spent in the following high priority areas
    a.   Health care
    b.   Education
    c.   Drinking water supply
    d.   Sanitation
    e.   Skill development of affected people
    ·        40% of the funds will be spent on the following infrastructure development projects
    a.   Roads
    b.   Railways
    c.   Bridges
    d.   Waterways
    e.   Irrigation
    f.     Alternative energy sources
    ·        DMFs was set up in all districts affected by mining related operations under theMines and Minerals (Development& Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015
    3).Perumanna Gram Panchayat in Kozhikode of Kerala became the1stPanchayat in the state to declare itsown Water Policy framed in lines of Kerala’s water policy declared in2008
    ·        The policy was drafted with the help ofCentre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), Kunnamangalam
    ·        CWRDM had undertaken a detailed study of water resources and usage in the Panchayat over the last 2 years i.e., 2013 and 2014
    ·        Objectives of Perumanna’s Water Policy
    a.   To ensure proper utilization and conservation of water in the 18 wards of Panchayat
    b.   To increase water literacy in the Panchayat through extensive water conservation and awareness programmes
    c.   To make the Panchayat garbage free by2020 thus eliminating water pollution completely
    ·        Under this policy,Water Conservation committees will be formed at ward level as well as panchayat level
    4). TheMadhya Pradesh Government launched theM-Shiksha-Mitra mobile application to provide various services and teaching related work to teachers in a simple and easy way
    ·        Madhya Pradesh –1st state to develop mobile app for teachers
    ·        Features of M-Shiksha-Mitra app
    a.   Teachers can browse salary slip, funds sent to school under various schemes and GPF statement easily
    b.   They can send SMS about their problems and know status of redressal
    c.   They can apply for leave and e-attendance
    d.  The app can be logged in by using username and password issued forEducation Portal
    e.   All principles, headmasters, school in-charge and teachers have been asked to register their mobile number on Education Portal
    ·        The App was developed by NIC and can be downloaded from Google Play Store inandroidsupported mobile phones

    o  He succeededSiddhartha Datta who resigned
    o  Balakrishnan was previously the Vice President ofJet Airways

    6). Afghan refugee teacherAqeela Asifi won the2015 United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)Nansen Refugee Award
    ·        She has been recognized for her dedication to educate Afghan refugee girls in theKot Chandana refugee village inMianwali, Pakistan
    ·        She was aformer teacher who fled from Kabul, Afghanistan in 1922 to find safety in the remote refugee settlement of Kot Chandana
    ·        She started teaching Afghan refugee girls by overcoming strict conservative cultural traditions which does not allow Afghan girls to learn
    ·        Nansen Refugee Award – established in1954 by UNHCR named after the intrepid Norwegian polar explorer, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and statesmanFridtjof Nansen
    ·        It consists of amedaland a cash prize of100,000 dollars
    ·        This award recognizes humanitarian work and service of an individual, group or organization towards refugees or displaced stateless people
