    1).Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the infrastructure finance companyIDFC to utilizeRs. 2,500 crore non-distributable reserves for provisions against bad loans before venturing into universal banking
    ·        IDFC announced that it will make an additional provision in the2ndquarter of this fiscal against coal and gas power assets
    ·        With this additional provisions IDFC’s new worth will reduce by approximatelyRs. 1600 crore
    ·        The volume of Net Restructured Assets,Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) andSecurity Receipts (SR) of the company was8.4% of its loan book as of 30th June 2015

    2).Indian Railways developed aHybrid Vacuum Toilet design that combines the advantages of Vacuum toilets and Bio-toilets
    ·        This1st of its kind system in the world was developed by theDevelopment Cell of Indian Railway Board
    ·        This design consists of 2 parts, a custom designed Vacuum toilet and a bio-digester tank
    ·        This design has been adapted from commercially available systems used in aircrafts
    ·        The bio-digester tank contains anaerobic bacteria that convert human faecal matter into water and small amount of gases by the following processes
    a.   Hydrolysis
    b.   Acetogenesis
    c.   Acidogenesis
    d.   Methanogenesis
    ·        Advantages of Hybrid Vacuum Toilet are as follows
    a.   It will help to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in tracks or toilets in Indian Railways
    b.   It saves water as it consumes only500 Milliliters of water per flush
    ·        This newly developed toilet facility has been fitted on a trial basis inDibrugarh Rajdhani

    3).Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare banned the sale ofDiclofenacinmulti-dose vial to save and protect vultures from brink of extinction
    o  Now onwards Diclofenac will be sold only in single-dose vial packaging for human use
    o  The ban was implemented on recommendation ofUnion Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC)
    o  Diclofenac – aNon-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug(NSAID) administered to cattle and it is the main cause of mass extinction ofvultures
    o  Vultures feeding on cattle having traces of diclofenac either die of kidney failure or lose their ability to reproduce
    o  In2006India had banned the use of veterinary drug diclofenac for treating cattle but multi-dose of this drug available in the market for human use were misused for veterinary purposes
    o  MoEFCC has published an official Gazette notification no.G. S. R. 558 (E) dated 17th July 2015 banning packaging of multi-dose vial of Diclofinac

    4). Metro ManElattuvalapil Sreedharan accepted the invitation of UN Secretary General 
    Ban Ki-moon to serve on UN’sHigh Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport (HLAG-ST) for3 years
    ·        Mr. E. Sreedharan is a retiredIndian Engineering Service (IES) offices who is credited for changing the face of public transport in India
    ·        Under his leadership the following projects were completed on time
    a.   Konkan Railway
    b.   Delhi Metro
    ·        He was born on 12thJune 1932 in Palakkad, Kerala
    ·        He was recognized as theMetro Man by the media for his grand success in executing the completion of the Delhi Metro on time and within the stipulated budget

    5). Prime MinisterNarendra Modi launched NationalIntegrated Power Development Scheme (IDPS) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to provide 24×7 power supply to every house
    ·        PM laid foundation stone of 2 power substations and announced the allotment ofRs. 572 crore to implement the scheme
    ·        This scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2014-15 and is one of the flagship schemes of theUnion Ministry of Power core to ensure 24×7 power for all
    ·        Aim of IDPS: To strengthen theTransmission and Distribution (T&D) networks,100% metering urban areas and smarten it with information technology
    ·        It envisages strengthening of sub transmission network byInformation Technology (IT) enablement
    ·        IT enablement will help in the following issues
    a.   Reduction ofAggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses
    b.   Establishment of energy accounting or auditing system
    c.   Improvement in billed energy based on metered consumption
    d.   Improvement in collection efficiency
    ·        Apart from launching IDPS, PM also attended the following programs
    a.   Laid foundation stone of7other developmental projects in Varanasi
    b.  Inaugurated the biggestTrauma centre of the country inBanaras Hindu University

    6).IndiaandLaos signed 2 key MoUs on Air Services and Quick Impact Projects under theMekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) programme to strengthen the bilateral ties between the 2 nations
    ·        The objectives of the MoUs signed are as follows
    a.   Air Services – Allows airlines to start a direct flight between the 2 countries
    b.   Quick Impact Projects of MCG – it includes 3 projects in the agriculture sector
    ·        The MoU’s were signed in the presence of the following dignitaries in Vientiane
    a.  Indian Vice President –Hamid Ansari
    b.   President of Lao –Choummaly Sayasone
