    Important RBI News:

    1). RBI has granted the in-principal approvals of three applicants to set up Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS).
    Organizations:
    o  Axis Bank Limited, Mumbai
    o  Mynd Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon, Haryana
    o  NSE Strategic Investment Corporation Limited (NSICL)andSmall Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), Mumbai
    ·        These three organizations has been asked to set up and operate TReDS in accordance to theGuidelines issued on 3 December 2014 under the Payment and Settlement System (PSS) Act 2007.
    ·        This approval will be valid for a period of6 months.
    ·        In this duration the applicants have to comply with the requirements under the Guidelines and fulfill the other conditions as may be stipulated by the Reserve Bank.

    2). RBI has provided nod for the in-principal to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to function as the Bharat Bill Payment Central Unit (BBPCU) in Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).
    ·        BBPS is anintegrated bill payment system, with a single brand image providing convenience of‘anytime anywhere‘ bill payment to customers.
    ·        “As the central unit, NPCI will set necessary operational, technical and business standards for the entire system and its participants, and also undertake clearing and settlement activities.
    ·        The present scope of BBPS will include utility bill payments, such as, electricity, water, gas, telephone and Direct-to-Home (DTH).

    3). RBI has permitted foreign investors to buy bonds of defaulters
    ·        By this, it appears to be a signalto bring in global distressed asset buyers which could ease the stress on Indian financial system.
    ·        The permission was given as part of the drive topromote investments by FPIs incorporate bonds.
    ·        The measure came at a time when some bond defaultsincluding Amtek India’s, are making investors wary of fresh investment in lower-rated securities.
    ·        The revised maturity period of such non-convertible debentures/bonds, restructured based on negotiations with the issuing Indian company, should be three years or more, the central bank said.
    ·        The foreign portfolio investors, which propose to acquire such securities should disclose to the debenture trustees the terms of their offer.

    5). Government approves Rs 3,120 crore for infrastructure boost in 102 AMRUT cities across Five States:
    ·        The Urban Development ministry approved the investment under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), including enhancing water supply, sewerage network, non-motorised transportation system and availability of public spaces.

    7). First Day-Night Test Match was played between Australia and New Zealand:
    ·        New history was created byAustralia and New Zealand playing first day-night Test match at the Adelaide Oval Cricket Stadium with apink Kookaburra ball to ensure proper visibility in floodlights.
    ·        This is the3rd match of the series between the two teams played for 2015 Trans-Tasman Trophy.
    ·        This match is being played as per recommendations of theMCC World Cricket Committee to keep the test cricket alive.

    8). M S Dhoni was appointed as the Brand Ambassador of the Dubai Based Grand Midwest Group:

    9). Noboru Karashima, Distinguished Tamil scholar and historian of South India and South Asia from Japan has passed away at Tokyo:
    ·        His research has rewritten theeconomic and social history of medieval South India and had published number of writings on them.
    ·        He also had played a critical role in developingIndo-Japan cultural ties.

    10). Surendra Upadhyay, Noted litterateur and former chairman of Rajasthan Brijbhasha Academy has passed away:
    ·        He was the recipient ofDoctor of Literature (DLit) at the university of Rajasthan where he was head of the department.
    ·        He also worked on analysingKamayani, an epic Hindi poem, written by novelist, playwright and poetJaishankar Prasad.
