    1). Union Government approved 6 new Special Economic Zones (SEZ) proposals including 4 from Information Technology and IT enabled Service sectors
    ·        The approved SEZs proposals are
    a)   HCL IT City Lucknow
    b)   Loma IT Park Developer, Mumbai, Maharashtra
    c)   North Mumbai International Commodity Township, Thane, Maharashtra
    ·        This decision was taken by the Board of Approval for SEZ of Union Commerce Ministry headed by Commerce secretary Rita Teaotia
    ·        There are 330 SEZs across the country out of which
    a)   36 – Tamilnadu
    b)   26 – Karnataka
    c)   26 – telengana
    d)   25 – Maharashtra

    2). Maharashtra government bought the house where the Indian Social reformer and architect of the Indian Constitution Dr. Bhimarao Ramji Ambedkar had stayed in London
    ·        He had stayed in this house during his days as a student at the London School of Economics in 1920-21
    ·        In January 2015, the Maharashtra government issued a Letter of Intent(LoI) to buy this house to the Indian High Commission in UK
    ·        This house was bought for 3.1 million pounds due to its cultural and national importance
    ·        The state government will convert this property into a international memorial-cum-museum which will be open to public

    3). National Institution for Transforming India(NITI) Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya launched the 2ndversion of an open source web based tool India Energy Security Scenarios 2047 calculator(IESS 2047)
    ·        The initiative partner of NITI Aayog in this project is UK’s Department for Energy and Climate Change(DECC)
    ·        IESS tool – engages various stakeholders in the country to plan and facilitate well informed debates on energy policy at different levels
    ·        1st version of IESS 2407 calculator – plays an important role in shaping India’s energy policy
    ·        Presently 20 countries have developed their own climate calculators including
    a)   China
    b)   Bangladesh
    c)   South Africa
    ·        2nd version IESS 2407 – makes more comprehensive policy discourse on India’s future energy security
    ·        This tool will help India to explore possible energy scenarios across the following sectors
    a)   Solar
    b)   Bio-fuels
    c)   Wind
    d)   Oil
    e)   Gas
    f)    Coal
    g)   Nuclear
    ·        This web-based model allows users to make energy choices and explore a wide range of outcomes from carbon dioxide emissions and import dependence

    4). Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar launched an e-payment module to deposit compensatory levies into the Compensatory Afforestation Management Planning Authority (CAMPA) Funds
    ·        Levies are imposed on development projects that seek land inside a Reserved Forest or a Protected Area(PA) in a sanctuary or a national park
    ·        These collected levies are accounted in the CAMPA funds are used to plant trees elsewhere
    ·        Ad-hoc CAMPA decides the procedure of per-verification of credits of levies in the State wise accounts
    ·        The newly launched e-payment module will designate an account for the payment purposes depending on the States in which the forest land is proposed
    ·        The payments will be allowed through 2 modes namely
    a)   Online challan mode through RTGS and NEFT
    b)   Offline challan mode

    5). The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to change the name of New Delhi’s Aurangzeb road to Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam road in memory of the Missile man of India
    ·        Aurangzeb Road – one of the most important address in Lutyen’s Delhi
    ·        This road begins at the Taj Mansingh Hotel near India Gate and joins Safdarjang Road near the official residence of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi
    6). President of Greece’s Supreme court Vassiliki Thanou appointed as the 1st female Prime minister of Greece
    ·        She was previously the caretaker PM appointed by the President Prokopis Pavlopoulos
    ·        She had replaced the outgoing Prime minister Alexis Tsipras
    ·        Tsipras had resigned after the members of his radical-left Syriza party had rebelled against his government
    ·        Vassiliki Thanou born in 1950 in Chalcis, Greece
    ·        Previous career details of Thanou
    a)   Currently the most senior judge in Greece
    b)   In 2015 she was appointed as the President of the Court of Cassation – one of Greece’s 3 supreme courts
    c)   She was President of the Greek Association of Judges and Prosecutors
    7). Indian agricultural scientist Dr. Modadugu Vijay Gupta to receive the inaugural Sunhak Peace Prize
    ·        Sunhak Peace Prize was founded in 2015 by South Korean religious leader Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon
    ·        This award recognizes eminent individuals from around the world for their contribution to peace and development of the world
    ·        Dr. M. V. Gupta was born on 17thAugust 1939 in Bapatla district, Andhra Pradesh
    ·        He was the Assistant Director General at WorldFish, an international fisheries research institute
    ·        He had previously received the World Food Prize in 2005
    ·        He was selected for the Sunhak Peace Prize for his pioneering work in the blue revolution developing sustainable aquaculture solution to the future food crisis
    ·        He will receive the 1stSunhak Peace Prize in Seoul along with Anote Tong
    ·        Anote Tong – President of Kiribati islands – he will receive this award for creating global awareness on the severity of climate change issue
    8). Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt won the 200m finals in the World Championships beating Justin Gatlin
    ·        Previously he had already won the 100m finals in the tournament
    ·        Usain Bolt – gold medal – 19.55 seconds – fastest in the world in 2015
    ·        US’s Justin Gatlin – Silver medal – 19.74 seconds
