    1).India’sNational Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) ltd. achieved a record of highly single-day electricity generation of over733 million units
    ·        NTPC is aCentral Public Sector Undertaking(CPSU) operational under the aegis ofUnion Ministry of Power
    ·        Headquarters –New Delhi
    ·        In2014-15 NTPC had contributed25%of total electricity generated in the country and16% of country’s total installed capacity of45,548 MW
    ·        Previously it had recorded gross electricity generation of around241 billion unitswith a growth rate of3.42%
    ·        TheDeclared Cumulative Capability(DCC) of the stations was91.10% andPlant Load Factor(PLF) was86.34%
    ·        The record of highest single day electricity generation of733 million unitswas achieved from NTPC’s
    a)   18– coal-based power plants
    b)   8– solar and hydro power stations
    c)   7– gas based units

    2).29th August 2015 –Raksha Bandhan a Hindu festival that celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters was celebrated across the country
    ·        It is also calledRakhi Purnima, or simply Rakhi, in many parts of India
    ·        The festival is observed byHindus, Jains, and manySikhs
    ·         Raksha Bandhan is observed in India, Mauritius and major parts of Nepal
    ·        It is also celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs in parts of Pakistan

    3). India gifted formerIndian Coast Guard Ship Varaha to Sri Lanka
    ·        India has gifted its formerIndian Coast Guard (ICG) Ship Varaha to Sri Lanka
    ·        The handing over of the ship took place at the port ofColombo in keeping with naval customs and traditions
    ·        In2006, it was provided by the Indian Government on a free dry lease to the Sri Lanka Navy
    ·         The patrol ship had been in service with Sri Lanka Navy as Sri Lanka Naval Ship Sagara since 2006
    ·        ICG Varaha is75 metres in length and11 metres in width

    4). India lost thesolar case againstUnited States at theWorld Trade Organization (WTO)
    ·        The United States dragged India toDispute Settlement Body(DSB) of WTO against itsJawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission(JNNSM)
    ·        US appealed that the state sponsored programme of India has discriminated importation of solar equipment manufactured in US
    ·        DSB of WTO has ruled that India’s requirement of only domestic solar equipment for its JNNSM is inconsistent with the international trade norms
    ·        After this verdict US solar equipment manufacturing companies look up to JNNSM which will generate20,000 MW solar power by2022 as a big business potential
    ·        This is the2nd case in which India lost at WTO against US
    ·        Previously, WTO had ruled against India’s ban on import of poultry meat, eggs and live pigs from US is inconsistent with international trade norms inJune 2015

    5). Indian Bank MD and CEOM K Jain launched‘Indpay’a mobile application service that enables its customers to operate bank account from anywhere, anytime
    ·        IndPay can be operated in thesmart phones supported by the following mobileoperating systems
    a)   Android
    b)    Windows
    c)   iOS
    ·        By using this application customers can carry out transactions like enquiries, getting mini statements and transferring funds to any account

    6).TheWorld Health Organisation (WHO)officially declared India asMaternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) free country
    ·        Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus free country – a country where mothers and newborns are free from tetanus at the time of birth
    ·        It was announced by Prime MinisterNarendra Modi after the inauguration ofCall to Action Summit 2015
    ·        Call to Action Summit 2015 – to reduce child and maternal deaths across the world
    ·        This is a2nd milestone achieved by India in public health sector
    ·        1stmilestone – declaration of India aspolio free country in 2014
    ·        Tetanus– an infection caused by the bacterium Clostridium tetani
    ·        MNT– a delivering mother can be infected with MNT due to unhygienic birthing practices such as the use of unsterilized instruments or contaminated dressings and non-institutional deliveries
    ·        As per WHO, around2 lakhs mother and children die every year due to MNT
