    1).Union Petroleum and Natural Gas MinisterDharmendra Pradhan launchedSAHAJscheme in New Delhi
    ·        People can apply online fornew LPG connection and they need not visit the LPG distributors for this under this scheme
    ·        Step by step process for a new connection under SAHAJ scheme
    a)   Customers can post online request for new connection by filling KYC form by uploading bank account details and photographs
    b)   Customer will receive registration number
    c)   Customer can either pay for the new connection through online or offline mode
    d)   After payment the electronic subscription voucher will be mailed to the new customer
    e)   Later the distributor will deliver the Gas cylinder, regulator and hose pipe
    ·        The12 cities the scheme has been launched across the country are as follows
    a)   Chennai, Chandigarh, Ahmadabad, Bhubaneswar, Bangalore, Bhopal
    b)   Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Patna, Mumbai, Pune

    2). India strongly supported the finalization of theComprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) andUN Security Council (UNSC) reforms
    ·        Union External Affairs MinisterSushma Swaraj stressed on this issue during her meeting with the President of UN General Assembly (UNGA)Mongens Lykketoft on behalf of India
    ·        India demanded urgent reforms in UNSC to reflect present day world realities, geopolitical realities and increasing role of developing nations
    ·        Early finalization of CCIT will bring the nations together to ban terrorists and deny funds and safe haven to them

    3). Supreme Court stays the RajasthanHigh Court’s verdict declaring thatSanthara is illegal
    ·        Santhara– a Jain custom of embracing voluntary death by taking an oath to stop eating until they die of starvation
    ·        Jains believe that it is a way to purge oneself of badkarma and to attainmoksha
    ·        The Rajasthan High Court on10th August 2015 had declared  Santhara as an illegal and punishable offence under theIndian Penal Code
    ·        The Supreme Court bench heard a batch of petitions filed by various religious bodies ofJain community against the High Court order
    ·        They had sought a stay on high court judgment stating that it was passed without appreciating the basic philosophy  of Jain religion
    ·        Following this the Supreme court on31st August 2015 stayedthe order passed by the High court

    4).Prime MinisterNarendra Modireleased digital recordings of the epicRamcharitmanasas a set of digital CDs produced byAll India Radio (AIR)
    ·        The Ramcharitmanas was composed and recorded for the1sttime in1980atAkashvani Bhopal
    ·        These Digital CDs are an attempt to go digital in a big way so that AIR can reach audiences globally
    ·        AIR recorded the work ofGoswami Tulsidas sung by singers of Bhopal gharana over the past7 years and broadcasted it regularly

    5).India’s2nd largest private sector lenderHDFC bank cut down itsbase rate by0.35% making it9.35% effective from1stSeptember 2015
    ·        Base Rate– minimum rate at which the bank lends
    ·        This decrease in the base rate is due to the decrease in therepo rateofRBIby a total of0.75% this year
    ·        Current base rate of HDFC –9.35%lowest base rate among Indian banks
    ·        After this move of the HDFC bank other private sector lenders such asICICI,SBI andAxis are expected to follow suite

    6). United States(US) has extended theanti-dumping duty onIndian preserved mushrooms for another5 years
    ·        Anti-dumping duty– it is a counter measure under the multilateralWorld Trade Organization(WTO) to protect domestic producers and market from cheap imports
    ·        Preserved mushroom – mushrooms preserved or prepared by the following methods
    a)   Blanching
    b)   Cleaning
    c)   Slicing
    d)   Cutting
    ·        It is nutritious, rich in fiber, proteins and folic acids. It also consists of amino acids which are usually absent in cereals
    ·        theUS International Trade Commission took this decision to extend the anti-dumping duty on preserved mushrooms due to cheap imports ofChile,China,India andIndonesia
    ·        This decision will have a negative impact on India’s domestic exporters
    ·        China– leading producer of mushrooms
    ·        In 2014-15 India exported mushrooms worth16.08 million dollarsto the following countries
    a)   United States
    b)   UAE
    c)   Israel
    d)   Russia
