    NATIONAL:
    1). India ranks 52nd in Tourism and Travel Competitive Index: WEF:

    ·        India moves 13 positions ahead from 65th to 52nd rank in Tourism and Travel Competitive Index as per the World Economic Forum (Davos) Report.

    2). Union Government is going to roll out LPG-like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme for kerosene:
    ·        The scheme in theinitial phasewill be implemented in selected26 districts of eight states. These states are Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan.

    3). “Amma Seeds” scheme for formers lunched by Tamil Nadu Government:
    ·        Implementing an announcement made in the Tamil Nadu Assembly in 2014 for farmers’ welfare,Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has launched the scheme‘Amma Seeds’which is aimed at providing quality seeds.

    INTERNATIONAL:
    4). China creates three new Army units to modernize military:
    ·        China has created three new military bodies as part of reforms to modernize its military and improve its fighting capacity.
    ·        President Xi Jinping giving military flags to the leaders of the three new units —a general command for the People’s Liberation Army, a missile force and a strategic support force.

    BANKING NEWS:
    5). PNB launches host of digital banking solutions:

    ·        State-owned Punjab National Bank said it has launched host of digital banking solutions includinggreen PIN and enhancement of its mobile app.
    ·        The bank launchedmobile apps enabling the customer to locatePNB ATM with PNB ATM Assist, it said in a statement.

    6). IDBI decided to raise the stake by 25%:
    ·        State-run lender, IDBI Bank, is planning to raiseRs.3,771 crore by way of qualified institutional placement (QIP) which could seegovernment stake reduce by 25 per cent, according to an exchange filing.

    7).Netflix set to launch in India:

    ·        Popular online streaming service Netflix is likely to launch in India next weekduring the trade show CES 2016. The website was planning to enter the Asian nations soon with Singapore and Hong Kong.

    8). 103rdIndian Science Congress inaugurated by PM ShriNarendraModi:

    ·        Prime Minister Mr.NarendraModi set the tone for the 103rd Indian Science Congress whichcommenced in Mysore by reposing country’sfaith in science and in its scientists and said that confidence of future of India is because of its faith in the scientific community.

    ·        Theaward carries a purse ofRs.1, 50,000, citation and astatuette.

    10). Corporation Bank bags NPCI Award:
    ·        Corporation Bank has bagged three awards at the‘National Payments Excellence Awards 2015’ event recently. The function was organised by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

    OBITUARY:
    11). Veteran CPI leader AB Bardhan passes away:

    ·        Veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leaderArdhenduBhushanBardhan passed away in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was 92.
    ·        He has been a leading figure of thetrade union movement and left politics in India and had played a key role in maintaining thespace for Communists in national politics.

    APPOINTMENTS:
    12). Atul Sobti appionted as CMD of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited:

    ·        AtulSobti took charge asChairman and Managing Director (CMD) of state-owned power equipment makerBharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for a period of five years.

    13). NABARD, NRSC signed MoU for monitoring Watershed Projects:

    ·        The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) withNational Remote Sensing Centre(NRSC) for web-based monitoring ofIndo-German Watershed Development projects.
