    1).Prime MinisterNarendra Modi launched3 gold related schemes to reduce the physical demand for gold and fish out20,000 tonnes of the precious metal lying idle with households and institutions
    ·        The following are the 3 gold related schemes that were launched
    a)   Gold Monetization Scheme (GMS)
    b)   Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme (SGBS)
    c)   Indian Gold Coins (IGC)
    Gold Monetisation Scheme (GMS) 2015
    ·        Tagline– Earn, while you secure
    ·        It replaces the existingGold Deposit Scheme (GDS), 1999
    ·        GMS will enable resident Indians to deposit their gold and earn an interest on it
    ·        All residents can invest in this scheme but are subjected toKnow Your Customer (KYC) Scheme
    ·        Banks are free to fix the interest rates and it will be denominated in gold
    ·        Minimum deposit at any one time of raw gold is30 grams with995fineness
    ·        There isno maximum limit for the deposit
    ·        Banks will accept gold deposits for the following number of years
    a)   1 – 3 years – Short
    b)   5 -7 years – Medium
    c)   12 – 15 years – Long 
    ·        AllScheduled Commercial Banks (excluding Regional Rural Banks) will implement GMS 2015 as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)directives
    Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme (SGBS) 2015
    ·        Tagline –Invest wisely. Earn Safely.
    ·        Minimum investment –2 grams of physical gold
    ·        Maximum investment –500 grams
    ·        Tenure – maximum8 years, but there is exit option from5th year can be exercised on interest payments dates
    ·        Objective– To shift part of physical gold in form of bars and coins for investment intoDemat (Dematerialized) gold bonds to reduce the demand for physical gold
    ·        These gold bonds are interest bearing and will be payable in terms of grams of gold
    ·        RBI will issue the Gold bonds in the denominations ofone gram and its multiples on behalf of Union Government
    ·        These bonds are available in the following forms that can betradable in stock exchange and can be used as collateral for loans
    a)   DEMAT form
    b)   Paper form
    Indian Gold Coin 2015
    ·        It is Indian’s1stever Indian gold coin and bullion to be officially issued by Union Government
    ·        The gold coins will bear national emblemAshok Chakra on one side andMahatma Gandhi’s engraved image on the other side
    ·        The coins and bullion will be available in the followingdenominationswhich can be easily liquidated
    a)   5 grams
    b)   10 grams
    c)   20 gram – bullion
    ·        It will be available at125 Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation(MMTC) of India outlets across the country
    2).Union Cabinet approved the signing of MoU betweenIndia andColombia to strengthen their cooperation in the field ofTourism
    ·        The following are theobjectives of the MoU that is going to be signed between the 2 countries
    a)   To expand bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector and exchanging information and data related to tourism
    b)   To help encourage cooperation between tourism stakeholders including Tour operators and Hotels in both countries
    c)   To establish an exchange programme for cooperation inHuman Resource Development (HRD) in tourism sector
    ·        The MoU will be signed between the following ministries
    a)   Union Tourism Ministry
    b)   Ministry of Trade Industry and Tourism of Colombia
    3).PresidentPranab Mukherjee launchedImpacting Research Innovation and Technology (IMPRINT) India to solve major engineering and technology challenges in10 identified technology domains
    ·        The following are the10 identified technology domains
    a)   Health Care
    b)   Computer Science and ICT
    c)   Advance Materials
    d)   Water Resources and River systems
    e)   Sustainable Urban Design
    f)    Defence
    g)   Nano-technology Hardware
    h)   Environmental Science and Climate Change

    4).The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime MinisterNarendra Modi approved aMoUwithBelgium for cooperation in development ofnew and renewable energytechnologies
    ·        The following are theobjectives of the MoU
    a)   To establish cooperative institutional relationship between countries
    b)   To promote and encourage technical bilateral cooperation on new and renewable energy issues
    ·        The MoU will focus on development of new and renewable energy technologies in the following fields
    a)   Solar (thermal and photovoltaic)
    b)   Wind energy
    c)   Biomass
    d)   Geothermal energy
    e)   Smart grids
    f)    Marine energy
    ·        It would also include contribution for diversification of renewable energy supply and energy security and any other mutually agreed areas
    ·        The MoU will be signed between Union Ministry of Power and respective Belgian government authority at the Federal and regional level
    5).Union Cabinet approved theUjwal DISCOM Assurance Yojna (UDAY) to accelerate the process of reform across the entire power sector to ensure affordable and accessible 24×7Power for All
    ·        The following are theobjectives of UDAYscheme
    a)   To enable financial turnaround and revival ofPower Distribution companies(DISCOMs)
    b)   To ensure a sustainable permanent solution to the problem
    ·        It allows power DISCOMs in selected states to convert their debt into state bonds as well as roll out number of measures to improve efficiency at power plants
    ·        The scheme seeks to ensure that struggling DISCOMs can clear years of losses and start on a path to profitability
    ·        It shifts75% of power DISCOMs debt burden tostate’s balance sheets thus resulting in interest cost savings to the tune of3-5%
    ·        It assures the rise of vibrant and efficient DISCOMs through the following4 initiatives Improve operational efficiencies of DISCOMs
    a)   Reduce of cost of power
    b)   Reduce interest cost of DISCOMs
    c)   Enforce financial discipline on DISCOMs through alignment with State finances
    ·        Under the scheme selected states would be able to sell the balance 25% as state-backed power bonds or loans which will carry interest rates of g-sec plus 50 basis points
    ·        The scheme helps to improve operational efficiency by implementing the following steps
    a)   Swapping of coal linkages
    b)   Monitoring aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses
    c)   Focus on smart metering and feeder separation in states
    6).Researchers from Beijing basedTsinghua University(China) and Philadelphia basedDrexel University (US) have developed a3-D printing method to produce highly uniformblocks of embryonic stem cells
    ·        This method usedextrusion-deposition based 3-D printing technology to produce a grid-like 3-D cell structure to growembryoid body
    ·        3D printing – a process of making 3-D (three dimensional) solid objects from a digital file with extreme precision
    ·        The 3D printed embryoid body demonstratescell viability and rapid self-renewal for7 days by maintaining highpluripotentcy
    ·        The grown embryoid body in such a controlled manner is uniform and homogenous 
    ·        It serves as a basic starting point for further tissue growth
    ·        These cells are capable of generating all cell types in the body which could be used as theLego bricks to build larger structures of tissues, tissue constructs and even micro-organs
    ·        This technique can be further enhanced to produce embryoid body at a high throughput, providing the basic building blocks for tissue regeneration and for drug screening studies
