Assam CM rolled out 647 schemes for development of the world’s largest river island Majuli
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal rolled out 647 schemes entailing an investment of Rs 24.57 crore for development of the world’s largest river island Majuli. Out of these, 448 schemes under MGNREGA involved Rs 21.90 crore and 199 schemes under 14th Finance Commission have an outlay of Rs 2.67 crore, it added.

Annual ‘Balijatra’ festival begins in Odisha on the banks of river Mahanadi
The annual ‘Balijatra’ festival was inaugurated by Health and Law Minister Pratap Jena at Gadagadia ghat in Odisha on the banks of river Mahanadi. The week-long famous fair on an area of 30 acres on the river bank will continue till November 10. It got the nod from east zone bench of National Green Tribunal for the second time this year.

Pan India scholarship program for school children called Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana launched to Promote Philately
Minister of Communications Shri Manoj Sinha launched a Pan India scholarship program for school children called Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana to increase the reach of Philately. Under the scheme of SPARSH (Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude & Research in Stamps as a Hobby), it is proposed to award annual scholarships to children of Standard VI to IX having good academic record and also pursuing Philately as a hobby. The amount of Scholarship will be Rs. 6000/- per annum @ Rs. 500/- per month.

Tata Steel has established India’s largest Coke Dry Quenching (CDQ) facility
Tata Steel has established India’s largest Coke Dry Quenching (CDQ) facility, capable of handling 200 metric tonnes per hour, at its state-of-the-art steel plant at Kalinganagar Industrial Complex in Jajpur district of Odisha. CDQ is a heat recovery system to cool hot coke from coke ovens. It is one of the best energy-efficient and environment-friendly facility in steel production where hot coke removed from coke ovens at a temperature of around 1,000 degree Celsius is cooled and kept dry with the inert gas.

ICICI Bank announced the launch of India’s first voice-based international remittance service
ICICI Bank announced the launch of India’s first voice-based international remittance service to enable non-resident Indians (NRIs) to send money to any bank in India. With this new feature in the ICICI Bank’s Money2India app, an NRI customer can instantly initiate a remittance to his/her existing payees in India with just a simple voice command to Apple’s virtual voice assistant, Siri, on their iPhone/iPad.

N Poonguzhali Becomes First Woman to be Appointed as Sr DDG, Tamil Nadu in TERM, DoT
N Poonguzhali has become the first woman to be appointed as senior Deputy Director General, Tamil Nadu, Telecom Enforcement Resource Monitoring (TERM), Department of Telecommunications (DoT). She is an Indian telecom service officer of the 1979 batch and an alumnus of IIT Madras. She also bagged the distinguished woman engineers award by the Institute of Engineers. Prior to joining, she served BSNL as Chief General Manager, Tamil Nadu Circle.

Indian golfer Aditi Ashok made her return to the Ladies European Tour by clinching the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in Abu Dhabi. It is Aditi’s third LET win in less than 12 months.
Indian Women Win Asia Cup, Qualifies for Hockey World Cup
India has defeated China 5-4 via shootout to win the women’s Asia Cup hockey title 2017. With this, India also qualified for World Cup 2018 as Continental champion. Savita Punia was adjudged Goalkeeper-of-the-Tournament while Monica won the Woman-of-the-Match award. Skipper Rani scored twice while Monica, Lilima Minz and Navjot Kaur scored a goal each in the shootout.
