    1). Union Defence ministerManohar Parrikar announced the development of a new medicine‘Lukoskin’in Rajya Sabha
    ·        Lukoskinwas developed byHaldwani based scientists ofDefence Bio-Energy Research(DIBER), a laboratory under theDefence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO)
    ·        It ispoly-herbal medicine for the treatment ofLeucoderma
    ·        Leucoderma – orVitiligo is a cutaneous acquired condition which causes a rare skin disease with white patches on skin
    ·        Lukoskin – an ointment having7-ingredients of plants with properties such as
    a.   Anti-blister
    b.   Skin photo sensitizer
    c.   Anti-irritation
    d.   Wound healing
    e.   Anti-septic
    f.     Copper supplementing properties
    ·        AIMIL Pharmaceutical Private Limited will introduce this medicine to the commercial market
    2). Tripura Legislative Assembly under Chief MinisterManik Sarkar has passed a Resolution and sent a proposal of the same to the Union Government forwarded by theCongress MLA Jitendra Sarkar
    ·        Resolution– to abolish death penalty and to provide imprisonment upto death in cases of heinous crimes
    ·        Its an aftermath of the debates onYakub Memon’s execution inNagpur Central Jail on30th July 2015 for his involvement in the1993 Mumbai blasts
    ·        Only58 countries in the world are still practicing death penalty

    3). Union Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh  announced the decision of allotting Aadhaar number to Persons of Indian Origin(PIO),Overseas Citizen of India(OCI) and Non-Resident Indians(NRI) in the Lok Sabha
    ·        Aadhaar number12-digit unique identity number which helps enrolled persons in availing various services and benefits provided by the government
    ·        Aadhaar number isworld’s largest national identification number project
    ·        Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI) established inJanuary 2009 to issue Aadhaar number to all the citizens who can be verified digitally using the database
    ·        UIDAI was earlier under thePlanning Commission of India and presently attached to theNITI Aayog
    ·        UIDAI has been providing Aadhaar number to all the Indian national and foreigners with valid visas
    ·        89.43 Aadhaar numbers have been allotted to Indian citizens

    4). Accenture, the global software giant has made two appointments
    ·        Rekha Menon appointed as thechairperson for its Indian operations
    a.   She succeededAvinash Vashistha
    b.   She is Accenture’s1st woman head in India
    c.   Previously she was theHead of Human Resources(HR) in Accenture
    ·        Anindya Basuappointed as theManaging Director(MD)of Accenture in India
    a.  He has23years experience in Accenture and has heldleadershipof domains such as Industrial Equipment, Automotive, ConsumerGoods& Chemicals and Travel& Transportation

    5). Thomas Cook (India) limited has acquiredKuoni Group’s travel business in India and Hong Kong for535 crore rupees
    ·        The acquisition includes 2-units of Kuoni as follows:
    b.  Destination management brandSITA
    c.  Travel brandSOTC
    ·        1800employees of Kuoni in India and Hong Kong will now work for Thomas Cook
    ·        Kuoni Group who entered India in1996 will operate as an independent entity after this deal
    ·        Thomas Cook has extended its business to over232locations. Some important recent acquisitions of Thomas Cook are
    a.   Quess Corpof Bengaluru in 2013
    b.   Sterling Holiday Resorts for 870 crore rupees in 2014
    c.   Luxe Asia Pvt. Ltd. Of Sri Lanka in July 2015

    6). President Pranab Mukherjee has appointedGovernors of two states
    ·        Ram Nath Kovind was appointed as theGovernor of Bihar
    a.   He succeededKeshri Nath Tripathi, presentGovernor of West Bengalwho was holding additional charge of Bihar
    b.   Mr. Kovind is fromKanpur, Uttar Pradesh and alawyer from profession.
    c.   He waschief of BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha
    ·        Acharya Dev Vrat was appointed as theGovernor of Himachal Pradesh
    a.   SucceededKalyan Singh, presentGovernor of Rajasthan who held additional charge of Himachal Pradesh
    ·        Article 153of Indian Constitution facilitates the appointment of a single person as Governor of two or more states

    7). Maharashtra Government signed MoU with Taiwan’sFoxconn company to set up its manufacturing facility in the state
    ·        Foxconn– world’s largest contract manufacturer of electronics and manufactures devices for the following organizations:
    a.   Apple
    b.   Xiaomi
    c.   Huawei
    d.   Black Berry
    e.   Motorola
    ·        Features of MoU:
    a.   Foxconn can invest5 billion US dollars over5 years in Maharashtra
    b.   Company will be provided with1500 acres of land for setting up its plant in Maharashtra
    c.   Foxconn will focus onResearch and Development as well asmanufacturing
    d.   It will create direct employment for50,000 people in the state
    ·        This MoU with Foxconn is the2nd achievement of Maharashtrian government underCM Devendra Fadnavis in June 2015
    ·        1stachievement was the agreement withGeneral Motors, a proposal to invest6400 crore rupees in state for expansion of the company’s manufacturing unit inPune

    8). Annual festival ofTendong Lho Rum Faat of the ethnicLepcha tribe ofSikkimwas celebrated
    ·        One of theoldest festival of Lepcha celebrated annually in the month ofAugust every year
    ·        It is believed that Mt. Tendong saved the Lepcha people during thegreat delugewhich flooded the entire Sikkim
    ·        It’s a3-day festival, on the1stday of which Mt. Tendong is worshipped
    ·        On thelast day traditional Lepcha food, ornaments and costumes are displayed

    ·        In defense Pakistani delegates said thatthey don’t recognize the governmentof Jammu& Kashmir so they did not invite its assembly speaker

    10). Union Government’s Dedicated Freight Corridor(DFC)project to commission its1st56km stretch inBihar
    ·        DFCis adouble track Broad Gauge freight-specific lines proposed by the government in the11th Five Year Plan(2007-2012)
    a.   To mitigate the congested railway networks by separating freight traffic from the passenger lines
    b.   To upgrade the transportation technology with reduced cost
    ·        Developed under theRailway Ministry covering3,300km.
    ·        This project is developed in2-stages:
    a.   The Eastern Corridor fromLudhiana in Punjab toDankuniin West Bengal covering1,839km
    b.   The Western Corridor fromDadri in Uttar Pradesh toJawaharlal Nehru Port Trust(JNPT) in Mumbai covering1,483km
    ·        The above two corridorsinterlinks inKhurja(Uttar Pradesh)
    ·        Thecost of the DFC project is estimated up to81,459 crore rupees
    ·        Out of the 3300km stretch56km betweenDurgawatiandSasaram inBihar to be commissioned by the end ofMarch 2016
    ·        The rest of the stretch expected to be ready by2020

    11). Prameria Mutual Fund(MF) affiliated to US basedPrudential Financial Inc. bought GermanDeutsche Bank’s MF business in India for400 crore rupees
    ·        This is the5th exit of a Foreign Fund house from India in the last 2 years
    ·        Deutsche MFwith20,720 crore rupees Assets Under Management(AUM) is the2nd largest foreign fund house in India
    ·        Franklin Templeton is the1stlargest foreign fund house in India
    ·        Prameria MFhas2,125 crore rupees AUM and after the acquisition it will increase to23,000 crore rupees making it in theTop 15 Assets Management Companiesin India
    ·        Several other companies exited from India’s fund management business and were bought by Indian organizations. They are as follows
    a.   ING MFbought byBirla Sun Life MF
    b.   Morgan Stanley MF bought byHDFC MF
    c.   Daiwa MFbought bySBI MF
    d.   Pinebridge Investment  bought byKotak MF
    ·        Prameria in a joint venture withDewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited(DHFL) under the name ofDHFL Prameria Asset Managers
    ·        There are over40 MF companies in India managing assets worth13.17lakh crore rupees
