    1).On 29th August 2015, PresidentPranab Mukherjee presented theNational Sports Awardsin various categories at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi

    2).August 29, is observed as theNational Sports Day in India. This day marks the birth anniversary of the Indian Hockey WizardMajor Dhyan Chand

    3).Dhyan Chand famously known as‘The Wizard’ was born on 29th August 1905 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh

    4).He had started playing hockey at the age of 16 only after joining the Army

    5).He is considered as the Greatest field hockey player of all time for his superb ball control

    6).He had scored more than1000 goalsin his international career

    7).He won3 Olympic gold medals in the following years
    ·        1928 – Amsterdum
    ·        1932 – Los Angeles
    ·        1936 – Berlin

    8).On this National Sports Day every year, the following National Sports Awards are bestowed upon sports personalities by the President of India

    ·        Arjuna Award
    ·        Dronacharya Award
    ·        Dhyan Chand Award
    ·        Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2014-15

    RAJIV GANDHI KHEL RATNA AWARD:
    ·        The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna(RGKR) Award is India’s highest honor given for achievement in sports given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports
    ·        It consists of a medal, a scroll of honor and a cash prize ofRs. 7,50,000
    ·        RGKR 2014-15 was bestowed on Sania Mirza for her outstanding achievements in game of Tennis
    ·         Presently she is ranked asnumber 1 women’s player in Women’s Double category
    ·        She is the 2nd Tennis player to win this award,Leander Paesbeing the 1st tennis player to win this award in1997
    ·        Other prestigious awards won bySania Mirza previously are as follows:
    1)   Arjuna Award –2004
    2)   WTA New Comer of the Year –2005
    3)   Padma Shri –2006

    DRONACHARYA AWARD:
    ·        It is an award given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for the excellence in sports coaching
    ·        The award comprises of a bronze statuette, a scroll of honor and a cash award ofRs. 5,00,000
    ·        The Dronacharya Awards 2015 winners are as follows
    1)   Naval Singh– Athletics (Javelin throw) Para-sports coach
    2)    Anoop Singh– Wrestling coach
    3)   Harbans Singh– Athletics coach
    4)   Swatantar Raj Singh– Boxing coach
    5)    Nihar Ameen– Swimming coach
    ARJUNA AWARD:
    ·        This is an award given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to recognize outstanding achievement in National Sports
    ·        This award comprises of a bronze statuette, a scroll of honor and a cash prize of Rs. 5,00,000

    The Arjuna Awards 2015 winners are as follows:
    1).Sandeep Kumar- Archery
    – He won gold medal in the Asian Games 2014
    2).M R Poovamma- Athletics (4X400 metres relay)
    – Currently she is ranked no.2 in Asia
    – She had won gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games
    3).Kidambi Srikanth- Badminton
    – He is the 1st Indian to win Gold in Swiss Open Grand Prix Title 2015
    4).Mandeep Jangra- Boxing
    – He won silver medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games
    5).Rohit Sharma- Cricket
    – He is the only player to hit double century in ODIs with a score of 264 runs against Sri Lanka
    6).Dipa Karmakar- Gymnastics
    – She is the 1st women gymnast who won a bronze medal at 2014 Commonwealth Games
    7).Sreejesh P R- Hockey
    – At the 2014 Asian Games he starred in India’s Gold medal win by saving two penalty strokes
    8).Manjeet Chillar- Kabaddi
    9).Abhilasha Mhatre- Kabaddi
    – She won gold medal in 2014 Asian Games
    10).Swaran Singh- Rowing

    Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2014-15:

    1).This award is named after Indian and Nepalese Sherpa mountaineerTenzing Norgay and is given by Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports

    2). He is one of the 1st 2-individuals known to reach thesummit of Mount Everest on 29th May 1953

    3).TheTenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2014-15 award winners are as follows
