    PRATYAKSHA HASTAANTARIT LAABH

    1). Pratyaksha hastaantarit Laabh (PAHAL)is a direct benefit transfer scheme for Liquified Petroleum Gas(LPG) Subsidy in India

    2). LPGcylinders are sold at market rates and the consumers receive a subsidy from the Union Government directly into their bank accounts

    3).It has replaced the previous system of selling subsidized LPG cylinders directly to the consumers

    4).It isthe largest cash transfer programme in the world

    5).On 1st January 2013M. Veerappa Moily, Minister of Petroleum and Gas launched the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG subsidy(DBTL)scheme in 20-Aadhaar coverage districts

    6).Consumers faced problems due to the mandatory requirement of an Aadhaar linked bank account to avail the subsidy

    7).Hence the Government modified the scheme and re-launched it  on 15th November 2014 in 54 districts asPAHAL

    8).PAHAL simplified the enrollment of consumers in the scheme

    9).Important features ofPAHAL
    ·        Consumers can receive LPG subsidies directly in their bank accounts
    ·        All consumers under the scheme must have a normal bank account, preferably Aadhaar linked bank
    ·        Consumers who do not have an Aadhaar number are allowed to receive subsidies in their accounts without linking with Aadhaar
    ·        Consumers receiving subsidies without an Aadhaar number must do any of  the following
    a)   present their bankaccount details to their LPG distributor
    b)   present their17 digit LPG consumer ID to their bank

    10). Give It Up Campaign
    ·        The PAHAL scheme was accompanied by ‘Give it up’ campaign requesting the consumers to voluntarily give up their LPG subsidy if they afford to do so
    ·        As of July 2015,8,73,909 customers of Bharat Gas, HP Gas and Indane voluntarily gave up their LPG subsidies

    11).On 14th August 2015, PAHAL was recognized byGuinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest cash transfer scheme with9.75 crore customers
