    ACHEIVEMENTS AS SCIENTIST:
    • JoinedAeronautical Development Establishmentof theDefence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) as a scientist.
    • Was a part ofINCOSPAR committee underVikram Sarabhai, the space scientist.
    • JoinedIndian Space Research Organization (ISRO)in 1969 as project director for the launch of India’s1st  Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III) successfully deploying theRohinisatellite in earth orbit in July 1980.
    • Between 1970-1990 tried to developPolar Satellite Launching Vehicle (PSLV) and SLV-III both of which were successful.
    • In 1970 became the project director of two main project,Project Devil andProject Valiant.
    • Was the chief executive ofIntegrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP).
    • Played a major role in developing the missilesAgniandPrithvi.
    • From July 1992-December 1999, served as theChief Scientific Adviser for the Prime Minister andSecretary of the DRDO.
    • Chief project coordinator for thePokhran-IInuclear test.
    • In 1998, developed a low cost coronary stent named‘Kalam-Raju Stent’ along with cardiologist Soma Raju.
    • In 2012, they again designed‘Kalam-Raju Tablet’together.
