International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on 8 March in many countries around the world. With theme for the year 2019 ‘Think equal, build smart, innovate for change’. It is also known as the United Nations (UN) Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.

The Finance Ministry has announced the rollout of a new Rs. 20 coin shaped like a “dodecagon”, a 12-edged polygon. The new coin will be heavier than all the existing coins at 8.54 grams. The coin will be two-toned with a 27-mm diameter, similar to Rs 10 coin. The outer ring will be 65% copper, 15% zinc and 20% nickel and the inner disc will be 75% copper, 20% zinc and 5% nickel

Red Flag is US Air Force’s premier air-to-air combat training exercise. It was launched in 1975. It is open to participant air forces from US, NATO and other allied countries. India has participated in it for two times in 2016 and 2008. It is scheduled from 3rd to 16th March 2019. The 2019 prize was announced by the jury of the Hyatt Foundation. According to a new report Price comparison site Cable.co.uk, India is home to the cheapest mobile data plans in the world, with one gigabyte (1GB) of data costing an average of $0.26, compared to USD 6.66 in the UK. The cheapest mobile data in Western Europe was found in Finland with an average price of $1.16 for 1GB of data. Denmark, Monaco and Italy all offer packages below $2. There were 15 countries in Western Europe which had cheaper prices than the UK, Cable found in its study. In Eastern Europe, Poland is the cheapest at $1.32 per GB, followed by Romania ($1.89) and Slovenia ($2.21).

An Independent Verification Agency under the World Bank support project to the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBM-G)conducted the National Annual Rural Sanitation Survey (NARSS) between November 2018 and February 2019, covering 92040 households in 6136 villages across the country and found that 96.5% of the rural Indian households have access to toilets and they use it.It also re-confirmed the Open Defecation Free (ODF) status of 90.7% of villages which were previously declared and verified as ODF by various districts and states.95.4% of the villages surveyed found to have minimal litter and minimal stagnant water.Since the launch of Swachh Bharat Mission(SBM) programme, over 9 crore toilets have been built across rural India and over 5.5 lakh villages and 615 districts have been declared ODF, along with 30 ODF States and Union Territories.
