NITI Aayog, in collaboration with World Resources Institute (WRI), India, launched the country’s first national electric freight platform – e-FAST India (Electric Freight Accelerator for Sustainable Transport – India). The launch of the e-FAST India platform witnessed participation from major automobile industry players, logistics companies, development banks, and fin-tech companies.

 It will help strengthen partnerships and identify and support innovative freight solutions. The platform also aims to raise awareness of freight electrification bolstered by on-ground demonstration pilots and evidence-based research.

Former India Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba has been conferred Singapore’s prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilangor Meritorious Service Medal by President Halimah Yacob.

With Lanba’s support, both navies also commemorated the Silver Jubilee of the Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise in 2018 and successfully conducted the inaugural Singapore-India-Thailand Maritime Exercise (SITMEX) in September 2019.

Forbes real­time billionaires list, Asia’s richest man Gautam Adani has overtaken Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to become the 3rd richest person in the world. He became India’s richest man with a net worth of USD 129.16 billion (Rs. 10.29 trillion). Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani’s net worth stands at USD 94 billion becoming the 8th richest in the world and the 2nd richest in India.

Australia limited-overs captain Aaron Finch will retire from One-Day Internationals who has played 145 ODIs and captained 54 matches, and will continue to lead the T20I side. Under his captaincy, Australia won its maiden ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in 2021 in the UAE.

Finch, who was a member of the 2015 ODI World Cup-winning Australia side, won the 2020 Australia Men’s ODI Player of the Year award. The right-hander has scored 5401 ODI runs, with a high score of 153 not out. He has hit 17 ODI centuries, which put him behind Ricky Ponting (29), David Warner, and Mark Waugh (both 18).

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot launched the ‘Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme’ to provide 100 days of employment in a year to families residing in urban areas. Launching the program at a state-level event in Ambedkar Bhawan, Gehlot termed it a “historic initiative”.

The scheme is expected to cost the state government ₹800 crores annually. The scheme is open for people in the 18-60 age group. While unskilled labor will be provided a wage of ₹259 per day, skilled workers will be given ₹283 each day and mates will be given ₹271 per day.

The Meghalaya government launched a multi-purpose online portal Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), to ensure the safety and security of the residents, gather intelligence inputs, and better the process of delivery of numerous government services. The digitization process would connect more than 6,000 villages and localities across Meghalaya to the online system.

The implementation of the digitized system would not only ensure the safety and security of the residents but it would also act as a strong intelligence gathering system for authorities to monitor and act, based on the intelligence inputs gathered from the online database.

WAAREE, India’s largest Solar Panel manufacturer, has entered into an Agreement with SBI for availing unsecured financing for solar projects through Surya Shakti Solar Finance Scheme and providing working capital for Channel Partners under EDFS (Electronic dealer finance scheme).

WAAREE intends to leverage over 500 Cr of a credit line through Surya Shakti Solar Finance Scheme and provide a digital platform for a hassle-free journey to loan applicants for financing solar projects.

The United Nations approved Austrian diplomat Volker Turk to be its new high commissioner for human rights, replacing former Chilean president Michelle Bachelet in the sensitive, high-profile post. The UN veteran replaces Bachelet, who was appointed four years ago with the specific intent of having a powerful female politician in the role.

He served with the UN refugee agency in Malaysia, Kosovo, Bosnia Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Kuwait. His immediate challenge will be the controversial report of the accusation of China committing crimes against humanity and possibly genocide (mass murder) against the Uyghur people and abusing Muslim minorities.

Dinesh Kumar Batra, Director (Finance) & CFO, has taken additional charge as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). Burundi’s parliament approved the appointment of a new prime minister Gervais Ndirakobuca after President Evariste Ndayishimiye warned last week of a possible coup plot against him. Mr. Ndayishimiye took power in the troubled nation in June 2020 after his predecessor Pierre Nkurunziza died of what the Burundian authorities said was heart failure.

The country had been plunged into deadly turmoil in 2015 when then president Mr. Nkurunziza launched a bid for a third term in office, despite concerns over the legality of such a move. Burundi’s history is littered with presidential assassinations, coups, ethnic massacres, and a long civil war that ended in 2006 and left some 300,000 dead.

Agnikul Cosmos, one of India’s private space startups, has secured its first patent for the design and manufacturing of its 3D-printed rocket engine. The patent has been rewarded to the company for its Agnilet rocket engine, which will power the company’s Agnibaan rocket that is scheduled to launch later this year.

Skyroot Aerospace, which recently raised $50.5 million in the largest single funding round for an Indian space startup, also uses 3D printing for its rocket engines, which will power the company’s Vikram satellite launch vehicles.

Rajasthan and Maharashtra became the first states to use end-to-end digital platforms during the third National Lok Adalat of the year that saw 74 lakh cases settled across the country including 16.45 lakh pending and 58.33 lakh pre-litigation cases.

The Digital Lok Adalat was launched by Justice UU Lalit on 17th July 2022 during the ’18th All India Legal Services Authorities Meet’. This was the first time that the Lok Adalats were made end-to-end digital. Digital Lok Adalat means all the events or tasks from the filing of the case at the litigant level to award generation held online.

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, died on Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland after reigning for 70 years. She was 96. The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

With her death, her eldest son and heir Charles will lead the country in mourning as the new King and Head of State for 14 Commonwealth realms. The 96-year-old monarch has been suffering from age-related mobility issues and had cut down her travels, including appointing new Prime Minister Liz Truss in Scotland earlier this week.

Passenger vehicle wholesales in India witnessed a 21 percent annual growth in August riding on improved supplies of semiconductors and festive demand, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

As per the latest data released by the industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger vehicle (PV) dispatches to dealers stood at 2,81,210 units last month, against 2,32,224 units in August 2021. Sales across segments rose by 18 percent to 18,77,072 units in August this year, from 15,94,573 units in the same month last year.
