Meghalaya will be hosting the upcoming North East Olympics Games beginning October 30 till November 6, 2022, in Shillong. This year, about 4,000 sportspersons from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura will be competing in eighteen Olympic sports disciplines in the 8-day event in 13 venues spread across this scenic pine city.

Participants will be competing in the following disciplines namely archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, judo, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, wushu, cycling (Mountain Bike), golf, weightlifting, and wrestling.

The government is aiming at reducing import dependence on palm oil by 25 to 30% through the production of 2.8 million tonnes (MT) of oil by 2030 under the National Edible Oil Mission.

India imports 56% of its edible oil requirement annually. The country imports around 8 MT of palm oil while the domestic production is around 0.5 MT. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala are the major oil palm growing states, which account for 98% of the total production.

Aditya Birla Group’s Hindalco Industries Ltd has entered into a commercial arrangement with Greenko Energies Pvt Ltd to set up a renewable energy project for the supply of 100 MW round-the-clock carbon-free power to its smelter in Odisha. Aluminum smelting requires reliable and continuous power.

Hindalco will also be the first aluminum company in India to use such RTC (round-the-clock) carbon-free power for smelting. Greenko will design, construct, partly own and operate the solar and wind facilities.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) recently inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly work on the emerging opportunities in the Indian defense and aerospace sectors. This collaboration will also provide impetus to the Uttar Pradesh defense industrial corridor initiative with technology development at IIT Kanpur followed by manufacturing at BHEL.

Both parties have identified critical technological avenues of collaboration like anti-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies, UAV engines, manufacturing of composite fixed-wing UAVs of medium altitude long endurance (MALE) category, and cyber security.

The Khelo India Women’s Hockey League 22 (Under-16) matches will commence at the iconic Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi. The League will see 16 teams divided into Pool A and Pool B  for top honors.

A total of 56 matches will be played in Phase 1 and over 300 players will compete. The Sports Authority of India has allocated a total of Rs 53.72 lakhs for 3 phases of the competition, which includes Prize money of Rs 15.5 lakh. The final ranking of teams will be determined after the completion of the first 2 phases. Phase 3 will consist of classification matches where each team will play a minimum of 3 matches.

National captain Sunil Chhetri was named the AIFF Men’s Footballer of the Year for the seventh time while Manisha Kalyan was picked for her maiden honor in the women’s category for the 2021-22 season.

Chhetri, the third highest goal scorer among active international players, was first named for the award in 2007. He then went on to win it in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018-19 seasons. Kalyan recently signed a multi-year contract with Cypriot top division winners Apollon Ladies, which has earned a place in the qualifying rounds of the 2022-23 UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Flipkart, India’s homegrown e-commerce marketplace, has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the District Administration of Varanasi, Government of Uttar Pradesh, to enable national market access for artisans, weavers, people with disabilities, and of Varanasi.

Through this partnership, iconic goods such as Banarasi sarees, handmade carpets, zardoji craft, and handmade dari from the state will now be available to 400 million customers on the Flipkart platform. Flipkart Samarth, launched in 2019, is a nationwide initiative that aims to introduce lakhs of MSMEs, artisans, and underserved communities from across the country to growth opportunities through e-commerce.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s government recently launched the “Chief Minister Equal Education Relief, Assistance and Grant (Cheerag)” scheme. Under the Cheerag scheme, government school students whose parents have an annual verified income of less than Rs 1.8 lakh can enroll in private schools from Class II to XII.

The government will reimburse Rs 700 per student from Classes II to V, Rs 900 per student from Classes VI to VIII, and Rs 1,100 per student from Classes IX to XII. As many as 533 “budget” private schools mostly in villages and small towns applied to offer seats to EWS students under the Cheerag scheme. However, the authorities found only 381 schools eligible due to different technical reasons.

The Odisha government and the National Institute of Ocean Technology have collaborated by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the protection of its coasts. The institute will provide technical guidance, design, and drawing of climate resilient coastal protection measures, and the inhabitants of six coastal districts of the state such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam will be benefitted.

Odisha has a vast coastline of about 480 km and the coastal areas are exposed to natural disasters. Cyclones cause high tidal surges with very high wind speed, resulting in loss of lives and properties. The state government has planned to take up climate-resilient coastal protection measures, raising and strengthening saline embankments using the latest technology available in the country.

The Reserve Bank of India has canceled the license of Pune-based Rupee Co-operative Bank Ltd as the lender does not have adequate capital and earning prospects. However, the RBI said that in compliance with an order of the High Court of Bombay, its direction will become effective after six weeks.

As per the data submitted by the cooperative bank, more than 99 percent of the depositors are entitled to receive the full amount of their deposits from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC). The license has been canceled because the bank does not have adequate capital and earning prospects and as such, it does not comply with certain provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

Navi Mutual Fund has announced the launch of its sixth fund for this year, the Navi Nifty India Manufacturing Index Fund. This is India’s first open-ended index fund that will seek to replicate the Nifty India Manufacturing Index, which tracks the performance of manufacturers among the top 300 companies in India.

Navi Nifty India Manufacturing Index Fund aims to simplify investing in the Indian manufacturing sector. The companies in the index are selected from the combined universe of the Nifty 100, Nifty Midcap 150, and Nifty Smallcap 50 index based on the 6-month average free-float market.

Airtel Africa has signed up for a USD 125 million revolving facilities from American banking major Citi. The company has telecom and mobile money operations in 14 African countries and the facility involves borrowing both in local currencies and US dollars.

It provides interest rate savings in exchange for achieving social impact milestones relating to digital inclusion and gender diversity with a focus on rural areas and women.  Airtel Africa transaction will contribute to its stated goal of USD 1 trillion towards sustainable finance by 2030.

The central government has re-nominated Satish Kashinath Marathe, Swaminathan Gurumurthy, Revathy Iyer, and Sachin Chaturvedi as part-time, non-official directors on the central board of the Reserve Bank of India. The re-nominations will be effective for four years.

As per RBI’s website, the role of board members is to advise the central Board on local matters and represent the territorial and economic interests of local cooperative and indigenous banks; to perform such other functions as delegated by the central board from time to time.

A contingent of the Indian Air Force left for Malaysia to participate in a bilateral exercise named “Udarashakti”. This is the first bilateral exercise being conducted between Indian Air Force and Royal Malaysian Air Force in Kuantan, Malaysia. Indian Air Force is participating in the air exercise with Su-30 MKI and C-17 aircraft while the RMAF will be flying Su 30 MKM aircraft.

The four days of exercise will witness the conduct of various aerial combat drills between the two Air Forces. Indian Air Force said Ex Udarashakti will fortify the long-standing bond of friendship and enhance the avenues of defense cooperation between the two Air Forces, thereby augmenting security in the region.

The union ministry of heavy industries has launched ‘Automated Online Data Transfer’ for capturing critical data related to Domestic Value Addition (DVA) from the approved applicants of the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for automobile and auto component makers, to bring in ease of doing business.

Under the newly launched system, the critical data would be transferred from the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to the PLI auto portal of the ministry. ERP is a type of software that organizations use to manage business activities.

Chairman of Dabur India Ltd, Amit Burman resigned from his post, and Non-executive vice chairman, Mohit Burman, has been appointed as the non-executive chairman of the board of directors of the company, with effect from August 11 for 5 years.

Amit will continue to remain the non-executive director of the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company. Amit Burman was first appointed as the CEO of Dabur Foods in 1999. In Q1FY23, the company recorded a growth of 8.1 percent year-on-year (YoY) in revenue to Rs 2,822 crore.
