Thirty three year old Vishnu Nandan from Kerala will be the only Indian on the mission.  It is the largest Arctic expedition in history. It is being conducted by Alfred Wegner Institute of Germany. Previous studies were for a shorter duration as the thick ice sheets in the Arctic prevent access in winter.
