c) If x < y

d) If x ≤ y

e) If x = y or no relation can be established between x and y

1) I) x = √676 ÷ ∛2197

II) y2 = 4

2) I) 2x – 3y = -1

II) 3x + 2y = -21

3) I) x2 – 4x – 21 = 0

II) y2 – 8y +16 = 0

4) I) x2 + 520 = 641

II) y = -√144

5) I) 2x2 + 13x + 21 = 0

II) 3y2 + 4y – 15 = 0

Directions (Q. 6 – 10) Study the following information carefully and answer the given questions:

The following table shows the marks of 6 students (out of 100) in a class test of different days in a week.

6) The total marks scored by Student P in all the given days together is approximately what percentage of total marks scored by Student R in all the given days together?

a) 88 %

b) 95 %

c) 106 %

d) 72 %

e) 64 %

7) Find the difference between the total marks scored by all the given students in Tuesday to that of Friday?

a) 55

b) 62

c) 34

d) 47

e) None of these

8) Find the ratio between the marks scored by Q on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday together to that of the marks scored by T on Thursday, Friday and Saturday together?

a) 12: 7

b) 24: 23

c) 51: 47

d) 33: 19

e) None of these

9) Find the average marks scored by U on all the given days of the week?

a) 68

b) 73

c) 71

d) 75

e) None of these

10) Total marks scored by all the given students on Monday is approximately what percentage more/less than the total marks scored by all the given students on Wednesday?

a) 7 % less

b) 20 % more

c) 20 % less

d) 15 % less

e) 7 % more

Answers :

1) Answer: b)

I) x = √676 ÷ ∛2197

X = 26/13 = 2

II) y2 = 4

y = 2, -2

X ≥ y

2) Answer: c)

2x – 3y = -1 –à (1)

3x + 2y = -21 –à (2)

By solving the equation (1) and (2), we get,

X = -5, y = -3

x < y

3) Answer: e)

I) x2 – 4x – 21 = 0

(x – 7) (x + 3) = 0

X = 7, -3

II) y2 -8y +16 = 0

(y – 4) (y – 4) = 0

Y = 4, 4

Can’t be determined

4) Answer: a)

I) x2 + 520 = 641

X2 = 641 – 520 = 121

X = 11, -11

II) y = -√144

Y = -12

X > y

5) Answer: d)

I) 2x2 + 13x + 21 = 0

2x2 + 6x + 7x + 21 = 0

2x (x + 3) + 7(x + 3) = 0

(2x + 7) (x + 3) = 0

X = -7/2, -3 = -3.5, -3

II) 3y2 + 4y – 15 = 0

3y2 + 9y – 5y – 15 = 0

3y (y + 3) -5(y + 3) = 0

(3y – 5) (y + 3) = 0

Y = 5/3, -3 = 1.667, -3

X ≤ y

Direction (6-10) :

6) Answer: a)

The total marks scored by Student P in all the given days together

= > 70 + 62 + 74 + 56 + 68 + 75 = 405

The total marks scored by Student R in all the given days together

= > 73 + 65 + 72 + 82 + 85 + 83 = 460

Required % = (405/460)*100 = 88 %

7) Answer: d)

The total marks scored by all the given students in Tuesday

= > 62 + 68 + 65 + 70 + 73 + 71 = 409

The total marks scored by all the given students in Friday

= > 68 + 81 + 85 + 77 + 70 + 75 = 456

Required difference = 456 – 409 = 47

8) Answer: b)

The marks scored by Q on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday together

= > 72 + 68 + 76 = 216

The marks scored by T on Thursday, Friday and Saturday together

= > 69 + 70 + 68 = 207

Required ratio = 216: 207 = 24: 23

9) Answer: c)

The average marks scored by U on all the given days of the week

= > (64 + 71 + 65 + 73 + 75 + 78)/6

= > 426/6 = 71

10) Answer: a)

Total marks scored by all the given students on Monday

= > 70 + 72 + 73 + 68 + 52 + 64 = 399

Total marks scored by all the given students on Wednesday

= > 74 + 76 + 72 + 73 + 67 + 65 = 427

Required % = [(427 – 399)/427]*100 = 7 % less
