Answers :

Directions (1-5) :

1) Answer: A

Fragment IV – “On her part, Harris has already suggested that because she grew up on the black community and went to Howard University, one of the country’s few historic black universities, she identifies as black”. Here the use of the preposition (highlighted in black) is wrong. The correct preposition that should follow the verb is “in” and not “on”.

The other fragments are absolutely correct and have no error.

Therefore option A is the correct answer to this question.

2) Answer: C

Fragment III – “It finds that the Challenger accident was caused by a failure in the O-rings sealing a joint on the right solid rocket booster”. In this fragment, the tense of the verb is clearly incorrect. This as well as all the other fragments are in the past tense but in this fragment the highlighted verb is in 3rd person present tense.

The other fragments are absolutely correct and have no error.

Therefore option C is the correct answer to this question.

3) Answer: C

Fragment III – “The decision have been made after the French Health Ministry reported 2,669 new coronavirus infections in just one day”. Here, there is a clear subject-verb disagreement. Decision is singular therefore the verb also needs to be in singular. The correct fragment will be “The decision has been made after the French Health Ministry reported 2,669 new coronavirus infections in just one day”.

The other fragments are absolutely correct and have no error.

Therefore option C is the correct answer to this question.

4) Answer: B

Fragment I – “Spain has announced a slew of new restriction to help fight a fresh surge in covid-19 cases”. One of the uses of the term slew is as a collective noun implying a multitude of something – here it should have been slew of restrictions (plural) and not restriction (singular)

Fragment II –“As part of the measures, discos and nightclubs was shut-down across the country”.The sentences given indicate future tense of activities i.e. to be done. However, in this fragment the tense is past. It should have been – As part of the measures, discos and nightclubs will be shut-down across the country.

Therefore option B is the correct answer to this question.

5) Answer: E

All the fragments are grammatically as well as contextually correct.

Therefore option E is the correct answer to this question.

Directions (6-10) :

6) Answer: B

In the first blank, the only options that fit are B & C – preventive&protective. But Miznimumdoesn’t fit in at all with the 2nd blank in both sentences. Majority though fits perfectly in both cases.

Therefore, option B is the correct answer to this question.

7) Answer: A

In the first blank, the only option that fits in perfectly for both the statement is embarrassment. The pairing word pasting which means a severe bashing as well as a severe defeat fits in well in the 2nd blank for the two statements.

Therefore, option A is the correct answer to this question.

8) Answer: D

Neither of the terms in option A fit in. The first term in option B fits well in both the 1st blanks but the 2nd terms don’t. Both terms of option C are wrong. The terms in option D work well in the respective blanks in the two sentences.

Therefore, option D is the correct answer to this question.

9) Answer: C

Both terms in option B & D are illogical. The 2nd term of option A works for the 2nd blank in both sentences but the 1st term doesn’t fit in the 2nd sentence. The terms given in option C work well in the respective blanks in both sentences.

Therefore, option C is the correct answer to this question.

10) Answer: D

The first term of options B, C and D can work in the 1st blank of both sentences. But the 2nd term of options B and C don’t fit in. Only for option D, both the terms fit well in the respective blanks of the two sentences.

Therefore, option D is the correct answer to this question.
