  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Turkmenistan on Cooperation in the field of Disaster Management
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the signing of Agreement between India and Spain on Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Customs Matters.
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Nepal for construction of bridge over Mahakali River at Dharchula (India)- Dharchula (Nepal).
  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the scheme on Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II for Intra-State Transmission System (InSTS) for addition of approximately 10,750 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and approx.
  • The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry is set to organize the Startup India Innovation Week from January 10th to 16th, 2022.

  • Uttar Pradesh has been awarded first prize in the state category of 3rd National Water Awards 2020.
  • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the portal UNNATI and the mobile app of HP State Industrial Development Corporation (HPSIDC).
  • Telangana stood first in the country in the list of highest number of open defecation free (ODF Plus) villages under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase-II programme till December 31, 2021.

  • NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower company has signed Promoters Agreement with Green Energy Development Corporation of Odisha Ltd. (GEDCOL), a leading State PSU in the renewable energy sector in Odisha for “Development of 500 MW Floating Solar Projects on different water bodies in Odisha”.
  • Reliance Retail has bought a 8 percent stake in Bengaluru-headquartered Dunzo, India’s leading quick commerce player, for USD 200 million (around Rs 1,488 crore).
  • State-run power giant NTPC is acquire 5 percent equity stake in Power Exchange of India Ltd (PXIL)
  • The Board of Directors of Vodafone Idea Ltd, has decided to convert interest on deferred spectrum and adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues into equity.
  • Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Bhopal, a CPSE under the aegis of Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) is celebrating “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” from 10th- 16th January, 2022.

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the authorisation certificates of Muthoot Vehicle and Asset Finance Ltd and Eko India Financial Services Private Ltd for non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB), the Dharwad-headquartered regional rural bank, and the Bengaluru-based Mecwin Technologies Ltd, which is involved in the manufacture and supply of solar-powered pump-sets for farmers, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to introduce farmer-friendly solar-powered pump-sets using bank finance.
  • India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is estimated to rise 9.2 per cent in the current fiscal as compared to a contraction of 7.3 per cent in the financial year 2020-21.
  • National Housing Bank’s 150 crore refinance exposure to the scam-hit Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative (PMC) Bank may get preferential treatment vis-a-vis other institutional creditors having uninsured deposits with the bank.
  • Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Urjit Patel has been appointed vice-president of the Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
  • The Government of India has extended the tenure of Navrang Saini as interim Chairperson of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) for three more months till March 05, 2022.
  • The Reserve Bank of India has approved the re-appointment of Anup Bagchi as an Executive Director of ICICI Bank for a period of three years, with effect from February 1, 2022.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the validity of its Directions for Sri Guru Raghavendra Sahakara Bank Niyamitha, Bengaluru, till May 10, 2022, subject to review.
  • Axis Bank has entered into a partnership with MinkasuPay to offer biometric authentication solution for its customers, whereby the transaction time to execute net banking payment will be reduced from about 50-60 seconds currently, to just 2-3 seconds.
  • World Bank: Indian economy is expected to grow at 3 percent in the current financial year.
  • Two start-ups supported by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council have received the World Bank Group and the Consumer Technology Association’s Global Women’s Health Tech Awards.
  • HDFC Bank has been adjudged Best Private Bank in India at the Global Private Banking Awards 2021, organized by Professional Wealth Management (PWM).
  • The Reserve Bank of India has authorised South Indian Bank to collect direct and indirect taxes on behalf of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC).
  • Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL), an associate entity of Paytm, has become the first beneficiary bank in the country to achieve the landmark of over 926 million UPI transactions in a single month.
  • ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company has entered into a collaboration with the US-based First Trust Advisors, which is into actively-managed exchange-traded funds, to launch a slew of global fund of funds

  • The Center has reappointed Vijay Paul Sharma as chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) after he resigned in May 2021 at the end of his five-year term (2016-2021).
  • Pankaj Sharma, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Mexico.
  • The Reserve Bank of India has approved the re-designation of Rajiv Anand as the Deputy Managing Director of Axis Bank till August 3, 2022.
  • Election Commission of India (ECI) has withdrawn the appointment of Actor Sonu Sood as a state icon for Punjab.
  • TS Tirumurti, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations was named the new Chair of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) for 2022.
  • Legends League Cricket (LLC) has appointed cricketer Jhulan Goswami as an ambassador to the All Women Match Official Team.
  • Veteran Chinese diplomat, Zhang Ming, has taken over as the new secretary-general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
  • Chile’s Constitutional Assembly elected Maria Elisa Quinteros as new president for Chile’s constitutional convention.
  • Vini Mahajan, a 1987 batch Punjab cadre IAS officer, assumed the charge as secretary in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

  • In a review conducted by Cirium, Chennai International Airport has been ranked eight for on-time performance among large international airports globally for 2021.
  • London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners has released the Henley Passport Index for the year 2022, India has improved its ranks and is currently placed at 83rd position with a visa-free score of 60.

  • India is among the six Indo-Pacific nations participating in a multilateral anti-submarine warfare exercise in the Pacific Ocean.
  • A new record has been set by the Chinese ‘artificial sun‘ or the experimental advanced superconducting tokamak (EAST) has accomplished the continuous high-temperature plasma operation as it ran at 70 million°C for 1,056 seconds, which is over 17 minutes.
  • Iran announced it had carried out a new space launch, in a move likely to irk Western powers amid tough talks on reviving a 2015 nuclear deal.
