  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister approves the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Information and Communications of the Republic of Sierra Leone on Cooperation in the field of sharing successful Digital Solutions implemented at Population Scale for Digital Transformation.
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the extension of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for release of 75 lakh LPG connections over three years from Financial Year 2023-24 to 2025-26.

  • Indonesia has introduced a ‘golden visa’ program aimed at attracting foreign individuals and corporate investors to stimulate its national economy.
  • United Kingdom (UK) government has officially announced its decision to rejoin Horizon Europe, the European Union’s research funding program with a budget of €95 billion.
  • Group of Twenty (G20) leaders have unanimously endorsed the “Goa Roadmap for Tourism” as a significant step toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • During the G20 Summit in New Delhi, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed among the governments of India, the United States (US), Saudi Arabia, the European Union (EU), the United Arab Emirates (UAE), France, Germany, and Italy to establish the India – Middle East – Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

  • The Assam government has established a 3 -member committee to draft a law aimed at ending polygamy within Assam.
  • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched the Mukhya Mantri Sporting Abilities, Rebuilding Aspirations and Livelihood Scheme (SABAL) from Nadaun in district Hamirpur, HP.
  • The Jharkhand Cabinet, led by Chief Minister (CM) Hemant Soren, has approved the inclusion of the transgender community in the state’s universal pension scheme, known as “Mukhyamantri Rajya Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana.”
  • The Gujarat government has announced that Ahmedabad has become the 2nd city in India to adopt an Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) for particulate pollution with an aim to regulate industrial emissions effectively and contribute to reducing pollution levels in Gujarat.
  • Odisha’s ‘Koraput Kalajeera Rice,‘ renowned for its unique aroma and nutritional value, has been officially recognized with Geographical Indications (GI) status.
  • NTPC Limited, a state-owned power producer, is set to commission India’s 1st inaugural Green Hydrogen fueling station in Ladakh within the coming month.
  • The Maharashtra cabinet has decided to implement a cyber-security project worth Rs 837 crore due to increasing cases of cybercrime in Maharashtra.

  • Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB) opened for subscription which will remain open for buying till 15th September.
  • Market share of PSU general insurers reached for the first time below a third of industry’s premium.
  • Retail inflation, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), slipped to 6.83 per cent in August this year.
  • As per the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation data, IIP grew by 5.7 per cent in July this year as compared to 3.7 per cent in June 2023.

  • The Markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), plans to introduce one-hour trade settlements in India by the end of the fiscal year, March 2024 with an aim to significantly reduce the time taken for the settlement of securities transactions.
  • Hitachi Payment Services, a 100% subsidiary of Japan-based Hitachi Limited, has launched India’s first Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
  • The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), has established a net worth requirement of Rs 1 crore for direct plan distributors interested in registering with them as execution-only platforms (EOPs).
  • PSB Alliance Private Limited, a company established by public sector banks (PSBs), plans to expand to 6,800 centres across India by June 2024, a substantial increase from the current 100 centres with an aim to significantly increase the coverage of its DSB services.
  • According to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the United Payments Interface (UPI) crossed 10 billion in the volume of transactions in August 2023, marking a significant milestone for the payments.

  • ICICI Bank has received approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to make I-Process Services (India) Private Limited (I-Process) its wholly-owned subsidiary, subject to certain conditions, as per the bank’s latest regulatory filing.
  • India’s leading exchange, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has received approval from the Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to introduce Options on Futures for NYMEX WTI Crude Oil and Natural Gas futures contracts within its commodity derivatives segment.
  • Thomas Cook (India) Limited witnessed a 5% surge in its shares following the announcement of its partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to launch a RuPay prepaid forex card for Indian travellers heading to the UAE.
