  • World Rhino Day is observed on September 22 every year & the theme of 2021 is ‘Keep the Five Alive’.
  • The International Day of Sign Languages is observed on September 23 every year & the Theme of  2021 is “We Sign For Human Rights”.
  • To celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and its glorious history, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry is organizing special events and programmes throughout the week as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’
  • Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu announced that the government has decided to observe September 25 as ‘Antyodaya Diwas’ every year to mark the birth anniversary of erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh and BJP icon Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.
  • World Pharmacists Day is observed on September 25 each year to pay tributes to pharmacists for the role they play in improving global health & the theme, developed by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), is “Pharmacy: Always trusted for your health”.
  • In 2013, The United Nations (UN) passed resolution 68/32 which established the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons to take place annually, every September 26th.
  • World Environmental Health Day 2021 is observed annually on September 26 to spread awareness globally regarding the health of the environment with the theme of ‘Prioritising Environmental Health for healthier communities in the global recovery.’
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated a significant portion of the latest episode of his Mann Ki Baat radio address to World Rivers Day, which is being observed on Sunday & the theme for 2021  is ‘Prioritising Environmental Health for healthier communities in the global recovery.’
  • Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day as international observances on September 27 & the theme is ‘Tourism for Inclusive Growth’.
  • The International Day for Universal Access to Information was proclaimed on 15 October 2019 at the 74th UN General Assembly to be held on 28 September & the theme is “The Right to Know – Building Back Better with Access to Information.”
  • World Rabies Day is an international awareness campaign coordinated by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control, a non-profit organization with headquarters in the United States & , the theme for World Rabies day is ‘Rabies: Facts, not Fear’.
  • World Heart Day is Observed on Sep 29 with the theme of ‘harnessing the power of digital health to improve awareness, prevention and management of CVD globally’.
  • The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste is observed to draw human interest in agri-food-nature dependence.
  • World Maritime Day 2021 is being observed across the globe on September 30 with the theme of respect for the sacrifice made by the navy men: ‘Seafarers at the core of shipping’s future.’

  • Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) started India’s first indigenous luxury cruise liner on 18th September 2021.
  • Devusinh Chauhan, Union Minister of State (MoS), Ministry of Communications launched a commemorative postal stamp to honour Rao Jaimal Rathore on his 515th birth anniversary.
  • The 45th meeting of GST (Goods & Service Tax) Council was held at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, under the chairmanship of the Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Ministry of Finance.
  • In an endeavour to make women independent and employment-ready, the National Commission for Women has launched a country-wide capacity building and personality development program for women Undergraduate and Post graduate students.
  • On Sep 20, 2021, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal virtually flagged off the dwarf container train service from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).
  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) signed an agreement to work on an arrangement through which they will set common safety and environmental protection standards.

  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur will inaugurate the first edition of the Himalayan Film Festival (THFF).

  • ADB (Asian Development Bank) has lowered its forecast for the current fiscal (ending March 2022) to 10 per cent from 11 per cent while raising the estimate to 7.5 per cent from 7 per cent for the next fiscal (ending March 2023).
  • The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) cut its projection of India’s economic growth by 0.2 percentage points to 9.7 percent for the current financial year.

  • The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) have partnered on programmes and research to improve food, nutrition security and livelihoods in India against the impacts of climate change.
  • Federal Bank, India’s leading Private Sector Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with Ashok Leyland, flagship of the Hinduja Group, the second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India with their complete range of BS6 vehicles.

  • CA Rover Holdings, part of the Carlyle Group, sold 3.4% stake in SBI Cards and Payment Services Ltd for ₹3,267 crore through open market transactions.

  • On September 20, 2021, The third edition of the India and Indonesia bilateral maritime exercise ‘Samudra Shakti’  began in the Sunda Strait, in Indonesia.
  • On Sep 23, 2021, The Ministry of Defence placed an order with Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi in Chennai for supply of 118 Main Battle Tanks, MBTs Arjun Mk-1A for the Indian Army.
  • On Sep 24, 2021, The Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with Airbus Defence and Space, Spain, to acquire 56 C-295MW transport aircraft worth ₹20,000 crore for the Indian Air Force.
  • On Sep 27, 2021, The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful maiden flight test of a new version of Akash Missile – ‘Akash Prime’ from Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Odisha.
  • On Sep 28, 2021, North Korea successfully tested a new hypersonic missile called Hwasong-8.
  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), signed a lease agreement with Alliance Air Aviation Ltd for the supply of two Civil Dornier-228 aircraft for regional operations in Arunachal Pradesh.

  • On September 20, 2021, The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya released the third State Food Safety Index (SFSI) of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to measure the performance of States/UTs across five parameters of food safety.
  • According to a comprehensive ranking of international startup hubs, in the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2021, London, Mumbai and Bangalore have featured among the world’s top startup hubs compiled by Startup Genome.
  • India has emerged as Dubai’s second biggest trading partner with a total volume of 38.5 billion dirhams in the first half of 2021.

  • Yes Bank has joined hands with Visa to offer a suite of credit cards to its customers.
  • Bank of Baroda (BoB) collaborated with PayPoint India under which the financial service provider will provide Banking Service through business correspondent (BC) model.
  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued separate master directions on transfer of loan exposures and securitisation of standard assets.
  • The Reserve Bank of India allowed loan exposures classified as fraud to be transferred to Asset Reconstruction Companies (ARCs).
  • United States (US) International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) in collaboration with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) jointly announced an 8-year sponsor project programme with a credit guarantee of USD 55 million (~ Rs 400 crores) named ‘India Covid Response Programme for Agriculture Transition’ to address the economic impact of COVID-19 in India.
  • As per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) publication of ‘Deposits with Scheduled Commercial Banks – March 2021’, Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) deposits in FY21 grew by 11.9 percent year-on-year compared to 8.8 percent in FY20 due to high growth in the Current Account and Savings Account (CASA) deposits.

  • ICICI Bank has announced that it has partnered with Amazon India to offer overdraft (OD) facility upto Rs 25 lakh to individual sellers and small businesses registered on the e-commerce company’s online marketplace, instantaneously and digitally.
  • As an initiative towards the Digital India movement and to make monetary transactions seamless, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has collaborated with ICICI bank to introduce FASTag transactions at all its 19,000 retail outlets across India.
  • The Reserve Bank imposed a penalty of Rs 2 crore on private lender RBL Bank for deficiencies in regulatory compliances and non-compliance of the provisions of the Banking Regulation Act.
