Nepali mountaineer NirmalPurja claims new speed record for world’s 14 highest peaks

  • A Nepali mountaineer on Tuesday smashed the record for summiting the world’s 14 highest peaks, racing up all “8000 meters” in just seven months.
  • NirmalPurja completed the climb of the 14 mountains, all over 8,000 metres (26,250 feet) in seven months.
  • The 36-year-old Purja, a former member of the Gurkhas — a unit of Nepalis recruited into the British army — as well as the elite Special Boat Service, kicked off his ambitious “Project Possible” in April.
  • In the first part of his record attempt, Purja climbed Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu — among the highest of the “8000ers” — in just one month.

Lucknow school bags Guinness World Record title for having 55,547 students

  • A Lucknow-based school has won the Guinness World Record for becoming the ‘world’s largest school’ in terms of strength of students.
  • City Montessori School (CMS) has won the global award for having 55,547 students in 2019-20, as stated by CMS founder, Jagdish Gandhi.
  • Currently, the CMS has 18 branches and approximately 56,000 students all over the city.

Wipro selected as DJSI member for 10th consecutive year

  • Wipro, an IT consulting and BPO company has been selected as a member o the global Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI) – 2019 for the tenth year in succession.
  • Launched in 2009, the S&P DJSI (World) is the gold standard for corporate sustainability. Inclusion in DJSI (World) index is based on a rigorous analysis of a company’s performance on more than 20 rimary indicators and 120 secondary indicators across a spectrum of economic, environmental, social and governance parameters.

Gully Boy, Delhi Crime Win Big at Asian Academy Creative Awards

  • Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Gully Boy’, India’s official entry to the 92nd Oscar Awards, walked home with the best film from India award in the regional finals at the Asian Academy Creative Awards ceremony. Netflix’s ‘Delhi Crime,’ also bagged several awards in various categories.
  • Actor Shefali Shah won Best Actor in a leading role award followed by Richie Mehta for Best Direction and Best Original Screenplay, Beverley Mills for Best Editing and Best Original Programme by a streaming service.

India wins four UNESCO heritage awards

  • The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation awards were announced at a ceremony held in Penang, Malaysia, marking 20 years since its institution
  • The four winners from India, include one from Ahmedabad — Award of Distinction for Vikram Sarabhai Library, Indian Institute of Management (IIM)
  • Three from Mumbai — Award of Merit for KenesethEliyahoo Synagogue and Our Lady of Glory Church
  • While Honourable Mention for Flora Fountain.
  • The renewal of the historic Tai Kwun – Centre for Heritage and Arts in Hong Kong received the Award of Excellence, the highest award among all categories.
