Answers :

Directions (1-5) :

1) Answer: B

In statement I, we see that Shah was welcomed at Kolkata and it uses the past tense because the welcoming has already taken place. Also, ‘blew conch shells…’ gives the hint of using past tense. So, instead of ‘shower’, we should use ‘showered’. In Statement II, in the phrase ‘the party is now hopping…’ the word ‘hopping’ which means to jump is wrongly and incorrectly used. It should have been ‘hoping’ with a single ‘p’ instead of hopping. Statement III and IV are both grammatically and contextually correct. This makes option B the correct answer.

2) Answer: A

Statement II starts with the wrong usage of preposition. ‘With’ should be used in place of ‘By’. The sentence should be ‘With advancement in technology…’. In Statement IV, the present continuous tense used ‘are witing’ is wrong grammatically because the sentence is in a past tense. It should have been ‘wrote’ in place of ‘are writing’. Statement I and III are both grammatically and contextually correct. This makes option A the correct answer.

3) Answer: C

In statement III, ‘booths’ is plural which means it will use ‘were’ instead of ‘was’ and the sentence should be “…restructure booths were already’’. In statement IV, BJP uses a plural verb whereas it is considered a single entity as a party even though it is made by many people. So, the sentence should be “… BJP, which has made’’ to make the sentence grammatically correct. Statement I and II are grammatically and contextually correct. This makes option C the correct answer.

4) Answer: B

In Statement I, we see the wrong usage of preposition. It should have been ‘…worsened to ‘’severe’’ on…’ instead of ‘…worsened for ‘’severe’’ on…’. In Statement II, the word ‘effect is contextually wrong and is not used correctly. It should have been ‘affect’ instead of effect. Affect means to haver an effect on and effect implies consequences of an action. In statement III, wrong usage of preposition is seen. Instead of ‘…shift on meteorological conditions’, it should have been ‘…shift in meteorological conditions.’ Statement IV is both grammatically and contextually correct. This makes option B the correct answer.

5) Answer: E

All the sentences are grammatically and contextually correct. No changes are needed in any of the sentences. This makes option E the correct answer

Directions (6-10)

6) Answer: B

The passage implies that there has been growth in the services sector after 8 months if lockdown. It does not say anything about the condition of the sector during lockdown, so option A is wrong. Option B says that PMI is an indicator of expansion, which is very true. The passage tells us about survey findings and other lead indicators which prompted finance minister to claim economic growth and PMI above 50 was one of the indicators mentioned. Also, it occurred in October when lockdown was lifted, so second part of the sentence is also true. There is no mention of PMI affecting inflation of the country, so option C can be rejected. Option D says that HIS Markit is the only data analytics firm to point out these details which is not true, it only explained what the PMI said. So, option D can be rejected. This makes option B the correct answer.

7) Answer: D

The question is a little confusing. At first it may seem none of the options add up to the answer. Option A is wrong because there is no mention of animal rights group thanking the family for taking care of the dogs, and the family only kept large number of dogs but did not care for them. Option B can be rejected because the animal rights group took away the dogs and promised to find them foster homes. Option C is incorrect because the passage clearly mentions the family being poor and not able to afford food or care for the dogs. Option E is wrong because though the family left them without care but they did not take them captive but domesticated them. This leaves option D. Option D mentions animal hoarding to be more off a mental disorder than crime which is true if we read the passage carefully. The family domesticated 164 dogs but did not care about them and did not understand that they would not be able to afford for the dogs, still they kept them and did not try to reach for help. This makes them unable to have such a thought which can be thought of as a disorder. This makes option D the correct answer.

8) Answer: A

The passage basically gives figures about the COVID-19 cases and based on previous trends defines some indications. The passage provides numbers and the analysis based on the numbers. This makes the passage analytical. The other options are not suitable to describe the passage. This makes option A the correct answer.

9) Answer: A

Option A is very true. Hindu women who are married celebrate the event to pray for their husband and as the passage depicts to show their unconditional love to their husband and places them above all in their life. Option B is wrong because there is no mention of women of other religion in the passage being disrespectful to their husbands. Option C is also not true because no such mention of compulsory celebration of the event only to respect the ancestors is given or is inferred from the passage. Option D is not true because the festival is celebrated only to pray for their husbands and not for themselves. This makes option A the correct answer.

10) Answer: C

The passage tells us about all the features of Galaxy Tab A7 and is written in such a way as to promote the product by pointing out all the features and the use of the product. Option A can be tempting as it explains about the features of the Galaxy A7 ta but, the style of writing is completely promotional. This makes option C the correct answer.
